The Most Expensive Mistake I Made As A Beginner

The most expensive mistake I made wasn't spending money on ads.
It wasn't publishing the wrong book.
It wasn't even quitting.

My biggest mistake was assuming.
I assumed I knew what people wanted.
I assumed demand existed.

I assumed publishing alone would create sales.
Business doesn't reward assumptions.
Business rewards understanding.

Today, before I create anything, I ask one question:
"What is the market already asking for?"
That single habit changed my results completely.

Question:
Have assumptions ever cost you money or time?

Tomorrow:
The day I almost gave up completely.

Why My First Amazon Book Failed Miserably

Looking back today, I can confidently say my first Amazon book was almost guaranteed to fail.
Not because the book was terrible.
Not because Amazon KDP didn't work.

But because I skipped the most important step.
Research.

I wrote what I felt people needed.
I never stopped to ask:
"Are people actually searching for this?"

That mistake cost me years of effort and money.

One lesson I've learned is this:

A book can be excellent and still fail if nobody is looking for it.

Question:
Have you ever worked hard on something only to discover there was little demand for it?

Tomorrow:
The most expensive mistake I made as a beginner.

What Exactly Is Amazon KDP?

Many people have heard the name Amazon.
Few have heard of Amazon KDP.

KDP stands for Kindle Direct Publishing.
It is Amazon's self-publishing platform.

Before KDP existed, publishing a book was difficult.
You needed publishers.

You needed approval.
You needed connections.
You often needed money.

Today, Amazon allows ordinary people to publish books directly on its platform.
Once approved, the books become available to millions of customers worldwide.

Whenever a book sells, Amazon pays the publisher a royalty.
That is the simple explanation.

In this thread, we will gradually go deeper into how the platform works and how people are using it to generate income.

Question:

Before joining this thread, had you ever heard of Amazon KDP?

Salary Income vs Royalty Income: The Difference Most People Never Learn

Imagine two people.

The first person works as an employee and earns $1,000 monthly.
The second person owns books that generate $1,000 monthly in royalties.
At first glance, both are making the same amount.

But there is a major difference.

The employee must continue showing up to work before receiving the next paycheck.
The publisher receives income because books that were created in the past are still being sold today.
This doesn't mean jobs are bad.
Jobs are important.

The problem arises when a person depends entirely on one source of income.
The recent Amazon layoffs remind us of that reality.

When your only income comes from employment, your financial future depends on decisions made by someone else.
Royalties introduce another possibility.

You create something once and continue benefiting from it as long as customers keep buying.
This is one reason many people are becoming interested in publishing.

Question:
If you had to choose, would you rather depend on one source of income or multiple sources?

For three years, I believed Amazon KDP was a joke.
Not because someone said so — but because I failed personally.

In April 2021, I published my first book (Discover To Recover) under my real name, Israel Chima N. I thought once it was live, money would flow in. I spent on promotions and ads. Pushed hard for months.

Result? Almost zero sales.

I got frustrated and quit. Anytime I saw KDP success ads, I laughed. I had tried it and failed.
Three years later, I met a friend called Bright in Delta State. The freedom in his life was obvious. When I asked what he was doing, he said: Amazon KDP. I was shocked. How was it working for him when it failed me?

He explained:
“Chima, you were approaching it as an author. Successful KDP publishers think like writers.”
He broke it down:

Authors write what they know.

Writers write what the market wants.

Authors ask: “What do I want to write?”

Writers ask: “What are people already searching for?”

Finally, he referred me to the Amazon KDP Training course by Adonike Sylvester that changed his life forever. I quickly grabbed the course, and the was the turning point for me.

Here is the link to the course. Click Here

That single shift changed everything.

I stopped guessing and started researching customer demand. I learned how to publish books on topics I knew little about — but people were actively buying.

In January that year, I applied what I learned. Today, my KDP earnings consistently range between $500 and $800 per month.
One of my accounts has made almost $7000 (10 Million Naira) in 9 months.

It’s not overnight. But it’s real, consistent income from books that sell even while I sleep.

Common Questions I Get:

“I’m not a writer” → Neither was I. This is a learnable skill.

“I don’t have a laptop” → Most tasks can be done on a smartphone.

“I don’t have money” → Startup cost is low compared to other businesses.

“Can Nigerians actually get paid?” → Yes, Amazon pays Directly into Nigerians Banks.

Amazon KDP is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It rewards those who learn market demand, stay consistent, and treat it like a real business.

How Can Amazon Pay Someone Without Employing Them?

One question many people asked after reading my previous post was:

"How can Amazon pay someone if they don't work for Amazon?"

That is a fair question.

Most of us grew up believing that income only comes from employment.

You get a job.

You work for a company.

The company pays you a salary.

Simple.

But there is another way people make money.

Instead of working for a company, they create something valuable and the company helps sell it.

For example, musicians earn royalties from songs.

Authors earn royalties from books.

Inventors earn royalties from patents.

The same principle applies to Amazon KDP.

Amazon created a platform where people can publish books.

When a customer buys one of those books, Amazon takes its share for providing the platform and pays the publisher a royalty.

In simple terms:

You create or publish a book.

Amazon displays it to customers around the world.

Customers buy the book.

Amazon pays you a percentage of every sale.

That payment is called a royalty.

This is why some people receive money from Amazon every month despite never working as Amazon employees.

Amazon is not paying them a salary.

Amazon is paying them because they own an asset that customers are buying.

Think about it this way:

A salary stops when you stop working.

A royalty can continue as long as people continue buying.

This does not mean royalties are better than salaries.

It simply means they are different.

And in today's world, many people are discovering that having both can be a smart financial strategy.

Tomorrow, I will explain the biggest difference between salary income and royalty income.

Question:

Before today, had you ever heard the word "royalty" outside music and entertainment?

A few years ago, if someone told you that one of the biggest companies in the world would lay off thousands of workers because technology could do their jobs faster and cheaper, many people would have laughed.

Today, it is reality.

In January 2026, Amazon laid off approximately 16,000 workers.

These were not lazy people.

These were not uneducated people.

Many of them were highly skilled professionals.

Yet they still lost their jobs.

For me, this raises a serious question:

If Amazon employees can lose their jobs, what hope does the average job seeker have?

This question is especially important for graduates.

Every year, thousands of graduates enter the labour market.

Many spend months or years searching for employment.

Others finally get jobs only to discover that one salary is no longer enough to achieve their financial goals.

The uncomfortable truth is that the world of work is changing rapidly.

Artificial Intelligence is changing industries.

Automation is replacing repetitive tasks.

Companies are learning how to operate with fewer employees.

Whether we like it or not, job security is becoming less certain.

But something else caught my attention.

While Amazon was announcing layoffs, the same company was still paying millions of dollars in royalties to people around the world every month.

Not employees.

Not managers.

Not executives.

Ordinary people.

Some of them work from home.

Some have never visited an Amazon office.

Some are students.

Some are retirees.

Some are full-time workers with another source of income.

And every month, Amazon sends them royalty payments.

Think about that for a moment.

The same company that stopped paying salaries to thousands of workers continues to pay publishers all over the world.

That discovery led me into a business model called Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing).

KDP is Amazon's self-publishing platform.

It allows ordinary people to publish books and earn royalties whenever those books sell.

Some people publish journals.

Some publish educational books.

Some publish activity books.

Some publish puzzle books.

Some publish books in multiple languages.

And every month Amazon pays royalties directly into their bank accounts.

Now let me be completely transparent.

I am not writing this because I watched a few YouTube videos.

I am writing as someone who has personally participated in this business.

Amazon KDP has had a significant impact on my life.

In fact, rather than ask you to simply believe me, I would prefer you see the evidence for yourself. N9 Million Naira in a year is not a joke

I recently recorded a live video showing my own results, experiences, and what is possible on the Amazon KDP platform.

Now, before you conclude that this opportunity is not for you, let me address a few common questions.

You may be thinking:

"I am not a writer."

The good news is that many successful Amazon KDP publishers are not professional writers. In the coming days, I will explain the different types of books people publish and why some of them require little or no writing experience.

Or perhaps you are thinking:

"I have never published a book before."

Neither have many people before they started. Every successful publisher was once a complete beginner. The purpose of this thread is to help beginners understand the process step by step.

Maybe your concern is:

"I don't have a laptop."

You may be surprised to learn that many people begin their KDP journey using only a smartphone. While a laptop can make certain tasks easier, it is not a requirement for learning the business and getting started.

Some people may also be wondering:

"I don't have money to start."

One of the reasons KDP has attracted people around the world is that it does not require the huge startup capital needed by many traditional businesses. You don't need a shop, warehouse, or large inventory to begin learning how the platform works.

Another common question is:

"Will Amazon actually pay someone living in Nigeria?"

Absolutely.

Amazon pays royalties directly to eligible publishers in many countries around the world, including Nigeria. Your earnings can be paid directly into your bank account.

Others may be thinking:

"Is this another online scam?"

That is a fair question.

In fact, I encourage healthy skepticism.

Don't believe me because I wrote this post.

Watch the proof video.

Follow this thread.

Ask questions.

Challenge what you hear.

Over the next 90 days, I will provide proof, education, screenshots, practical examples, and real experiences so you can judge the opportunity for yourself.

I am not claiming everyone will become rich.

I am not promising overnight success.

Like every legitimate business, it requires learning, patience, and consistent action.

However, after seeing what this platform has done for me and many others around the world, I believe every job seeker should at least know that opportunities like this exist.

That is why I have decided to turn this thread into a public 90-day training series.

For the next 90 days, I will be sharing:

RomanceRe: I Am Tired Of Patronising Prostitutes, I Need Help. by izicode1: 11:43am On Sep 27, 2025
This is the true test of who you are. The man you are supposed to do. Let me tell you how I stopped patronising prostitutes over 30 years ago.
I started patronising them at a very tender age. In fact, there was a time I paid, then the lady off light and turned her bag for me, I then ask, what do you mean by turning you ass or back to me?

She replied, I really want to know if you actually know where vagina is. That is to tell you how small or younger I was when I started patronising them.

What pains me the most then was that, after that few minutes satisfaction, I become worthless, meaningless and unhappy with my life.
So, I began to think a way out as you are thinking now.

But the difference is that you are after the money you spend, while I was after the useless life I am pushing myself into.

What I did was I took an oath with the impossible. That faithful day, I stood before the sun, and proclaimed that any day I sleep with a prostitute in life, it is as good as sleeping with my biological mum.

I guess, you know how heavy that is in our culture. From that day till date, I haven't and never thought of it. This is over 30 years today, that spirit just left me. So, even free, I mean free, I can't sleep or approach a prostitute again in life.

So, my friend, if your reason of thinking to stop it is because of the cost, then you have a long way because the more you make money the more you upgrade.

But if your goal is to have a quality and self worth life, then do or vow with the unthinkable and you will be free.

I wish you good luck

Though, I studied about 250 principles of being a good husband before I got married, and it really worked like magic.

So, if you don't want to regret after marriage, learn the principles of being a good husband, and the woman will follow you like a goat to the slaughter
LiteratureRe: Reflection On My Amazon KDP Journey And Ban by izicode1: 7:57am On Aug 25, 2025
Attached is my earning for the last 3 months, and this account has been active for the last 4 years. I did my first publication on the 1st of April 2021, with no significant result or sales to show.

The account was dormant until last year February that I met a mentor, who put me through and since then it has be thousands of dollars monthly.

From my many years of experience, here are the reasons Amazon could block an account:

1. Inconsistency: By inconsistency I mean writing on different niches in one account. Today, cookbook, tomorrow, mental health, next tomorrow parenting. Doing this shows you are a writer not an author, and what Amazon needs are authors.

2. You have infringe on trademark keywords. The reality is that you can write on any keywords, even if it is trademarked, but with a twist, which you must learn how to do.

3. infringing Copyright on images ( very serious). To this I totally avoid writing books with images

4. High refund rate. Most publishers don't even know or border to check what is their refund rate. Usually, you archive book with high refund rate no matter how sweet the sales appear than Amazon doing that for you. Doing that for you leads to account termination

5. Then producing low quality contents, which usually leads to high refund rate. Even if you are using AI, there is a skill to make you book one of the best, if not the best in any niche.

If you can develop the right skill, Amazon is a life changer for anyone.

Congrats. You have to submit the result to the girl for approval.

Intent247:
So I met this new girl and all our conversation she has been more emphatic about knowing my health status.
I told her I am okay that we always conduct periodic test in my office every year and that they don't give us the results.
So we had a near sex experience that didn't last for 1 minutes cos she was scared.
The following day she brought up the topic of my health status again and that since our near sex experience she has been restless.

Omoh at that point I even became scare myself. As a sexually active man that has gone into the legs of many ladies . Some with condoms and others without I was visibly scare . The last time I checked my status was in 2020.
The last time I had raw sex was October last year with my ex. Sex with condom was Feburary this year.
I became restless. Had to go out immediately to conduct a test even though it was Saturday.
I asked how long ye test will be ready and was told a minimum of 30 minutes . Omoh I was relieved cos if I was told to come on Monday I don't think I would have survived the anxiety.
Well I did the test and it came out Negative .
Also did Syphilis, Hepatitis.

I will submit sample for my urine culture test tomorrow morning. This one money fear me shaa. Just checking for any hidden infection.

What a mistake. Your life is full of mistake. I will not mistakenly tell you to stop being high with kolos.

[qquote author=lovediehatelive post=135946981]So I use to pluck moringa leaf from a tree close to a house I was staying to make tea.

Things were going smoothly and I loved it because it makes me relax without getting addicted.

There are several ways I could relax, but most of them especially things to take have a very dangerous side effect: ADDICTION.

this is why I opted for moringa as the tea makes me feel well and grounded and helps me concentrate.

Things changed when I moved. I couldn't get any moringa tree around to pluck the leafs, and I just tried to forget about it.

My mind was off it totally when one day I mistakenly stumbled upon a thread on nairaland talking about the benefits of moringa, something I already knew. I was mistakenly going through the comments when someone said you can easily get it online or supermarket.

Supermarket? I mistakenly thought of it and decided to give it a try. It won't be fresh, but let me try it.

I mistakenly went to the supermarket and mistakenly asked for moringa. I was shown the section for tea and beverages and I mistakenly went there to look for it.

I didn't see moringa and I mistakenly looked well until I saw a packet written moringa.

I mistakenly picked it up, and saw that it was actually green tea and moringa. Instead of me to drop it, I mistakenly took it, thinking that the moringa covers for the green tea.

I haven't taken green tea, but I've heard of it. I mistakenly didn't consider the side effects, and I mistakenly bought the green tea disguised as moringa.

This was where my woes started.
I mistakenly made the green tea moringa tea, and mistakenly drank it.

The taste was somehow, but not too bad. I felt alert and sharp, my memory clear and awesome.

I could remember things very clearly and my focus was sharp.

But I didn't know that I mistakenly started something that would have effect on me.

I wasn't looking forward to slimming down, I only wanted moringa tea to help me focus.

At first I felt clarity of mind and highly alert, but that was it. Any little thing, I quickly noticed and responded. Seems like I could hear ants walking, little details and sounds were very clear to me.

This was bad for me. The noise from moving cars, loud music, generator noise and noisy people around made it counter effective.

This wasn't the kind of clarity I wanted.

Actually want I needed was focus not total clarity. For me to be kinda numb to the world around and highly focused on things around me, the particular thing I'm attending to at the moment.

But I mistakenly took green moringa tea and it made me really light. My head was lighter than our current transparent black nylon.

Any little noise triggers me. I became restless and irritable.

Night sleep? Gone

Focus? Gone

Steeze? Reduced drastically.

Instead of me to stop at first try, I mistakenly took the green moringa tea again, and again, until...

It now seems like all my flesh are gone and like they use spoon to scrape what's remaining, just like how I usually scrap off burnt rice from the bottom of delicious jollof rice back then.

What do I do? I don't want to mistakenly continue, I want my focus back.

My steeze restored.

My peaceful night sleep restored.

How do I counter this effect fast the natural way without substance that causes addiction?
RomanceRe: “stop Getting Married In Your 20s, Make Enough Money First “- Lady Advises by izicode1: 12:37pm On Mar 16, 2025
We are getting deeper into the family mess. Everybody is becoming a marriage counselor due to the high rate of marriage failures today. Young girl, have you hard any man complaining that he is cruel to the woman due to her financial status.? Or do you think money is all that is needed to have a happy home?

DyshApp:
A young lady who identifies as a Christian woman has advised her fellow women to make enough money and desist from getting married in their 20s

In the video she posted, Faithful Femininity advised Christian women to stay away from early marriage especially when they can’t cater for themselves.

The young lady advised Christian women in their 20s to desist from getting married when they make enough money.

Her words: “As a Christian woman, I have decided that my 20s are not for marriage. My 20s are to make money. Christian women stop entering into marriage so early.”

”Go and make money. You don’t have a dime in your account. God and find a way to make money. In 20s, in your 30s, go and make money. Stop following men around. Some of you are doing Hallelujah Challenge and wearing bridal gowns.

“Have you made money? Like, I will not enter a marriage without money. And I’m talking about multiple sources of steady income. I’m not that kind of Christian woman that will enter her husband’s house with nothing in her account. God forbid. My 20s now na to work hard. My 20s is to make wealth.”

I have no right to say he lied because anything is possible in life. In my early days in forex trading, I lost over $3000, and that was 17 years ago. I thought I had won the lottery for being a trader, so I went all out to borrow money with the hope of paying immediately.

To God be the glory; today forex is my major source of income. Losing $3.7m to trading means that the trader has zero or no clue of what forex trading is all about.

If you are reading this, never be discouraged trading forex. It is one of the most legitimate ways of making money online, and it requires dedication, commitment, and focus.

If you have some money to invest, you can contact me as let's discuss it out.
