Manchester United announces that current caretaker manager and former striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has been appointed as the club’s full-time manager on a three-year contract. by Communications Department Solskjær scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007 and also managed the club’s reserve team until the end of 2010. He was appointed caretaker manager on 19 December 2018 and won his first eight games in charge on the way to an overall record of 14 victories and two draws in 19 games, amassing more Premier League points than any other club during that time. “From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club,” said Solskjær. “It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far. This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve.” Ed Woodward, Executive Vice Chairman, comments: “Since coming in as caretaker manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves. “More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club. This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward. “I want to thank Ole and the coaching team for everything they have done so far and congratulate him on this richly deserved appointment. The fans and everyone at the club are behind him as he looks to take us where we need to be and build the next stage of our history.” https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/manchester-united-announces-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-as-full-time-manager

Nigeria is as interesting as it is fascinating. One of her capabilities is the ability to attribute meaning to words, behind its original meaning, or create new words entirely. Some of these distinctive words and phrases are commonly used while conversing. Here are some of the very familiar and interesting ones: 1. How far Originally, how far was as a way to check up on an ongoing situation. However, how far is now used as a way of greeting, as opposed to ‘hello or hi’. It could mean, how are you? How have you been? 2. I dey This here is a plus because it is technically a reply to ‘how far?’. It also emphasises the extent of how well you are. On this note, it is alright to say: I dey oh, I just dey. 3. As in eh Usually, the phrase ‘as in’ is a question that begs for more clarification on whatever is being talked about. However, this is not the case here. Hence, ‘as in eh’ means ‘very true’ or ‘your assertion is correct’. The addition of the ‘eh’, qualifies the agreement. 4. Oya na This phrase has the ability to accept a new meaning as the day progresses including saying goodbyes. Initially, oya na was a phrase popular to the Yoruba’s which means “hurry up” until it began to be used to refer to other things. The difference in its meanings is observed in the cadence while pronouncing. Oya na could mean okay, do whatever you want to do, answer me, let’s go, take care and so many others. 5. Be feeling yourself It sounds very funny, yes. This is a sarcastic way of telling someone to quit self-hyping himself. 6. For your mind This here and ‘be feeling yourself’ practically have the same meaning. http://thatsdx.com/frequent-phrases-nigerian-youths-use/ |

Life will never play two different people with the same cards. As long as there's your sweet part of life, there are also, undoubtedly, trying times. These times are just to ensure you're worth the good times. Because a friend graduated from university early doesn't mean he'll thrive better than you finishing somehow "late". Because Bill Gates dropped out of school but made It, doesn't mean it'll work for me that way too. Life is principled, do what works for you, follow your instincts, do the needful bearing in mind that life's success story will only manifest with only those who are prepared. Develop your skill-set, build your self esteem, love, decide to impact life positively. See yourself as an Integral part to the world's largest sphere of solution givers. Every single person is unique, everyone is needed to make the world a better place, we shouldn't fail to realize that. Continuous learning, developing yourself matters, there's no formula for outright greatness, it's a maze... Everyday and every opportunity I get at discussing this particular topic, I always insist that most Nigerian ladies or women still have vague understanding of the concept Gender Equality. I keep reiterating the fact that it’s gender equality and not gender favoritism. Even though I’m of the school of thought that it should rather be regarded as Gender Equity. It’s so sad that on the subconscious mind of a lot of ladies, they see the concept as a reward pattern or model. They see it as an avenue to “benefit” from perks and rewards that men “seem” to enjoy from. The number one flaw of this concept is that, a lot of cultural, traditional and social ethics will not just allow it’s manifestation. Certain tribes and ethics kind of delineate responsibilities between both categories already. Either you’re told or not, your subconscious tells you otherwise. Another flaw is that ladies see it as a reward platform for ladies, that regardless of your capacity or capabilities as a lady to perform in a function, you should be given a preferential advantage, “because you’re a lady”. Gender Equality even makes it harder for you because you’re competing on the same level and platform as the man and whichever identity is fit for the task, let such individual prevail. No sentiments. This concept is sentimentally inclined in the Nigerian sphere. It endangers the female gender, they believe themselves as weaker vessels, who needed to be pitied or considered unmeritoriously. As much as I want to believe the whole gender equality plot, the more I keep seeing a lot of women confused about it’s real meaning and truce. The whole idea is being birthed from a special type of greed. The idea is for it’s benefits rather than true female emancipation. © Ajayi Martins, 2018. http://thatsdx.com/gender-equality-a-flawed-concept/

DAKAR (AFP) – The National Assembly of Senegal’s parliament has passed laws to scrap the Senate, or upper house, and the post of vice-president, the APS news agency reported Thursday. Both are widely considered too expensive for the poor west African country’s budget. President Macky Sall last month announced emergency legislation to scrap the Senate and turn over its annual budget of almost eight billion CFA francs (12 million euros, $16 million) to dealing with the impact of deadly floods. At least 13 people have been killed in several weeks of flooding and thousands left homeless. The post of vice-president, created in June 2009 by former president Abdoulaye Wade but never filled, was allocated an annual budget of more than two billion CFA francs (three million euros). The institution was strongly criticised in June 2011 when Wade introduced a bill stating that if the president resigned, died or was unable to carry out his duties, he would be replaced by the vice-president. Many of Wade’s critics claimed he was setting up a system for his son Karim, who held a ministerial post, to succeed him, but Wade denied having such “monarchical” plans. He was defeated at the polls by Sall in March after 12 years in office. The legislation, approved by the lower house on Wednesday, will shortly go before the 100-member Senate itself, before it is passed by Congress, which unites both houses, and then signed into law by Sall. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/senegal-parliament-votes-to-scrap-senate/ |

The Federal Government has given its consent to a multi-national oil company, Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), to build 150,000 barrels per day refinery in either Port Harcourt or Brass worth $15 billion. The project has potential of boosting Nigeria’s power sector and capacity to refine crude oil locally. Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, made the disclosure after a meeting with acting President Yemi Osinbajo with petroleum ministry, NAOC and NNPC officials at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said that Agip was also building a power plant and would repair the existing refinery in Port Harcourt to boost local production of petroleum products. “The acting president chaired two meetings this morning. The first was with the Ministry of Petroleum, NNPC and Agip Oil Company. “In the first meeting, we dealt largely with issues relating to Agip’s investment on Zabazaba field and then their cooperation with us in terms of repairs of the Port Harcourt refinery where they are working with Oando and a few other people. “And thirdly and more importantly, we reviewed, following my meeting with Agip during the OTC last week with their Chief Executive Officer worldwide. “We reached an agreement that Agip would build a brand new refinery of 150,000 barrels capacity, which will be located either in Port Harcourt (Rivers) or in Brass (Bayelsa). “And so, today they reconfirmed that and they are preparing an MoU along those lines. “The effect of that new refinery goes back to our insistence that oil companies who work in this country would need to begin to migrate away from just exporting crude and begin to look at how to refine those crude and help our local capacity to be able to meet our consumption.” The minister said that the new refinery, along with the work Agip is to do at the old refinery in Port Harcourt, would increase the country’s momentum in localising the capacity to produce every refined product. He added that it would enable the country “to meet the timeline for 2019 that we have been targeting conceptually”. “So, it is very welcome, deliberative, very successful meeting and we are looking forward to working with Agip going forward in working out the modalities and quickening the process to execute this major project. “I would also be calling on other multinationals who occupy the same space to see what they can do both in the areas of power.” Kachikwu also said that Agip was doing a second power plant that should be on stream by 2019 to 2020. He said the objective was to ensure that the oil majors did not just take the crude and all the investments but that they would also see what they could do in terms of creating other related industrial growth paths. “Total investment from Agip involved in both the Zabazaba field, the power plant and the new refinery is in excess of $15 billion. That is major push in terms of our search for investment,’’ the minister explained. He noted that by the investment Agip would not take over the country’s refineries. “They (Agip) are going to build their own refinery; it is not different from Dangote building a refinery. “And if our own will pack up because they are doing then we must be doing something wrong. “So, if they are going to bring best practices to the field we need to pursue those best practices because ultimately we must begin to look at an export model,” he added. Kachikwu said that the administration was looking at how to position refineries in the country to supply the African market. He explained: “So market protectionism is not going to be the answer. It is getting our own system up in excellent levels of performance to be able to march international standards.’’ http://independent.ng/15bn-agip-refinery-targets-150000-barrels-per-day/ |

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has insisted that all admissions to universities, polytechnics and colleges of education should be concluded by 30th November. JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede reaffirmed the deadline on Friday in Abuja at the opening of an Extra-Ordinary Technical Committee Meeting on 2016 Admissions to First Choice Institutions held at the Baze University, Abuja. Oloyede said that the meeting was an indication that the board was ready to attend to legitimate requests of its stakeholders and clients in the collective quest for efficiency. The Registrar also said that JAMB would be flexible except in cases where flexibility would be unethical or inimical to national interest. According to him, the meeting is in line with the board’s pledge to be consultative and all-inclusive in the discharge of its functions. He said: “The First Technical Committee Meeting was held in Bayero University, Kano, from August 22 to August 26, where institutions were expected to make submissions for their first choice admissions to admissions’ panels at the technical sessions. “However, some institutions informed the meeting that they were not ready to make submissions as internal processes leading to the exercise had not been completed. “The affected institutions requested for an earlier special date than the date for the Second Technical Committee Meeting scheduled for November 14 in Owerri, Imo State ’’. Oloyede said that he expected the institutions represented at the meeting to be prepared to make presentations of their recommended candidates to the board. He said that the meeting was primarily for placement of suitably qualified candidates into tertiary institutions. “ As such, I need to re-state my earlier submission that the senate and the academic boards of the institutions have the primary responsibility of recommending candidates to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for admissions. “JAMB will not initiate or insert any candidates but will, as expected, ensure that no candidate is unjustly treated by any institution. “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is thus a referee for justice, equity and standards, ” he said. The registrar said that the only difference in the 2016 admissions process was the policy that there should be no written post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination test. He said that other admission processes remained. The registrar urged institutions yet to update their requirements for the 2017 brochure to urgently do so. http://a2sat..co.ke/2017/04/jamb-issues-final-deadline-for.html?m=1 |
