EducationA Short Story: Strategy Surpasses Power - A Must Read by Jackter101(op): 8:57am On Jan 08, 2016
Adekunle was a brilliant naïve SS 2 boy who was the talk of the class amongst SS2 girls as he neither fancied their company nor was exposed enough to handle their antics. He decided to keep to himself and face the only thing he knows how to do best; academics.

Not too long after the first term exam, Adekunle was approached by a girl named Adeola. Adeola was brave enough to express her feelings toward him. Kunle being the naïve guy didn’t know how to handle such situation, and decided to tell her to back off. This didn’t deter the girl’s efforts at all as she kept coming back stronger.

When Kunle realized that this particular girl was hell-bent on being his friend at least, he soft pedaled and decided to see how things would go. Even though he was not a fan of Adeola at all, as Adeola was playful and unserious and was always bottom in art class.
As days rolled by, Adeola began boasting to the girls in school that she is Adekunle’s girlfriend. “ I am the most brilliant boy in SS2’s girl” she would say anytime she wants her friends to get jealous.

So one day, when Adekunle was heading home after school, he got approached by 3 hefty guys, who told him that their leader wanted to see him. He was shocked, afraid and frozen. He had never experienced such before. He followed the guys and got to a shed where one lanky looking sun burned guy was seated with other guys holding sticks. Immediately Adekunle saw him, he figured out he was their leader.

The leader said, “So this is the rat that is competing with me for my girl”, startled Adekunle was like “I don’t understand”, Then the leader continued “you are too tiny for me, just one warning, leave Adeola alone”, Adekunle was about to explain himself when the lanky guy continued, “If I have to come back here a second time you won’t like yourself”. Adekunle still jittering said, “okay sir”. As he turned to leave, he saw Adeola running towards him, with her heavy chest bouncing up and down. Way too huge for an SS2 girl. Then to his surprise, Adeola knelt down and started begging this scary looking guy who just scared the living day out of Kunle.

It was then Kunle realized that Adeola was actually this “Tout’s girlfriend. Seeing this, Kunle distanced himself from Adeola in coming weeks and decided to do his own investigation. He later found out that a classmate of his was this “Leader’s” younger brother and was the informant. A class mate named Tase, who gullibly or intentionally as Kunle interpreted it carried the news that Kunle is now dating his brother’s girlfriend. After all He couldn’t really blame this class mate of his, as it was all Adeola’s fault.

Innocent Kunle then decided to revenge, at least get back at Tase, for dragging his name and reputation through the mud. Kunle knew he had no one to fight for him, and could not stand Tase’s brother and gang, even though he was sure he could beat Tase on a one-on-one battle. He wasn’t ready to risk another round of Tase’s brother’s fury.

So Kunle waited for the perfect time to revenge, and this time never came until the GSCE external exams where a couple of students in SS2 decided to try their luck before the final WASSCE in SS3.

On a particular day, It was the day to write mathematics exam, a couple friends of Kunle were approached by a group of boys at their exam center and they were beaten up. One of Kunle’s friends, Jibola, who managed to escape unscathed was furious and boiling with the urge to revenge, as he had older brothers who could back him up.

When Kunle heard of this story, He decided to use it to his advantage, and went to Jibola with a claim that Tase’s brother’s gang was behind the attack, and that he was very sure. Jibola who was still very mad, decided to wait till after school hours and approached Tase. Tase obviously didn’t know what he was talking about, but Jibola wasn’t ready to have any of that. He pounced on him immediately and beat the living day out of Tase. He even did it to the point that he asked him to call his brother, to come and fight for him. Tase was beaten blue black and Kunle smiled home finally having his day after 6 months of long wait.

What do you think of Kunle’s method of getting back? Do you think Tase deserved it? Is that wisdom or deceit? Drop your comments and let us know what you feel.

Business6 Things You Must Do To Actualize That Business Idea In 2016 by Jackter101(op):
1. Do your research: Make sure you have done your research and understudied your business model. Understand the market you are going into and how to share the existing customers in the market. Do not go with the common word of mouth; “My friend is doing it, and he is successful, so that makes me too”. This action of yours, if done properly can save you a lot of money and stress.

2. Keep your cost low: This is the single and most important aspect when you start your small business. Note that I mentioned small business; even though this rule is also as relevant to big businesses, it is more important to your small business as high cost could bring your business to an end even before it starts. Most people have an idea of what they want their business to look like and how they want it to be, but the truth is, it will take time before it gets there. So do not rush into spending unnecessarily from the get go. A good example is avoiding rent if you can run your business from your home. Rent is one of the biggest costs of any business; avoid it if possible in the beginning.

3. Customer Satisfaction and Retention: No matter the business you want to go into, your lifeline is how you can satisfy your customers and retain those customers. Ensure your services are conducted appropriately in a manner that if you were to be in your customer’s shoes, you would be satisfied as well. Customer is king, keep them happy.

4. Patience and Consistency: Your small business will not become huge all of a sudden. You have to put in the work. You need to believe in yourself, your business and your dream, and keep working towards that. You need to be patient as it is never going to be easy, things will frustrate you, but you need to be smart and flexible, search for new solutions and talk to positive minded people if you ever run out of ideas and you think you have hit the rocks.

5. Carve your niche: Know who your potential customers are and what they need. Focus on a particular subset of the market and ensure you understand their wants and needs. Then make efforts to continuously satisfy them. You can decide to just focus on customers in one part of Lagos for example, and then grow your service or product on them.

6. Rest: Do not let disappointment weigh you down or stress you till it starts to affect your health. Your business can only survive when you are alive and well. Find a balance between work and personal life. Once you close for the day, forget about work if possible and leave the rest for the following day. You need to be alive and well to reap the fruits of your labour.

Ok, i do get confuse over "been" and "being" pls explain more..
been to the word "be" is just like given to the word "give", ithey are both past participle. Being on the other hand is like "giving" to the word "give". It is a present continuous tense of "be". Hence you see the word "Human being", because the human is still existing. Present continuous : being; meaning still taking place, still happening... Hope you get the drill.

Some people here are guilty of these. The worst part is when you correct them even in the most polite manner, they must insult you. If the person you corrected didn't insult you, another must come to insult you, telling you how grammar can't put money in your pocket etc. It is appalling.

Other mistakeside I have seen here are:

1, "This and these", some people misuse them.

2, In comparative analysis, eg. Some people use "MOST COSTLIEST CAR" instead of costliest car. Etc.

3." It's " you see some people saying "Is well" instead of "it's well"

4, anther annoying one is the people who call "Data" MB.
You are very right. You know it is a rare skill to be able to accept constructive criticism. Only very few don't mistake it as hate.

Education3 Writing Errors You Shouldn’t Be Making In 2016 by Jackter101(op):
After so much recommendation and comments, we have decided to point out 3 more errors you shouldn’t be making this year.

The first is using the word “there” instead of “their”. I see people writing sentences like; “Don’t go their” and “there car is right their”, these sentences are wrong and these words shouldn't be used interchangeably.

The correct way to use the 2 words in the examples above is; “Don’t go there” and “Their car is right there”. There means a place or a position, or it is used to attract one’s attention to something or somewhere while “their” means belonging to or associated with something or someone.

The second is using the word “order” instead of “other”. You see sentences like “place your other”, and “The order man is over there”. These sentences are incorrect judging by what the user intends to pass across.

source: http://naijavariety.com/2016/01/01/3-english-errors-you-shouldnt-be-making-in-2016-part-2/

The correct way to use these words using the examples above is; “Place your order” and “The other man is over there”. The word “order” means an arrangement of things in relation to each other according to a pattern, sequence or method. It also means an authoritative command, direction or instruction while the word “other” is to refer to something or someone that is different from one already mentioned or known.

The third and final is the use of “been” instead of “being”. You see people write sentences like “He is been stupid” when they want to mean “He is being stupid”. The word “been” is the past participle of “be”, while the word “being” is the present continuous tense of “be”. So just like the word speak, has a past participle “spoken”, and a present continuous tense as “speaking” so is “been” and “being” to the word “be”. So when you use the word “have” or “has”, the next tense of “be” that should follow is “been”. Example is “I have been to Abuja”, or “He has been to Abuja”.

Happy 2016

Funny thread with funny "grammarians".

It's "I love people who know. ...." .

Happy New Year!

"I'm" or "I am" starts a sentence and not "am".

Now, don't tell me it's a shortened version cause it's simply ridiculous.

This wrongful use of English words cannot be overemphasized!!!! You see young ones; especially facebook users using the words interchangeably like it's right..Especially 'there' and 'their'..It's so common these days like I don't even get it...I think it all boils down to the fact that almost everyone abbreviates these days and then the proper use of words continue to be in the decline with the advent of smartphones undecided undecided
You are so right.
