My advice to you will deviate a little from the topic. I understand your quest to get further education in the UK, but my own suggestion is this; have you thought of other countries that give you a chance to work after your masters? Rather than put all your eggs in one basket, which is returning to Nigeria, why not seek admission in countries like Canada and Australia. These countries, though cold in winter, offer you a chance to work once you get an education in their country. I believe trying these countries is a better use of the scarce FX. Back to your question, I am a Canadian qualified professional Accountant and I can only speak about opportunities in this part of the world. I will say CFA is one of the most respected designations in our accounting/Finance line, but it is better for those who want to be Financial analysts. Finally, whatever you decide, I wish you best of luck. 3 Likes |

Politics / Why The Average Nigerian Shouldn't Pay More Taxes by Jackter101(m): 9:19am On Mar 10, 2016 |
It is obvious that the new sell from the Nigerian Government is that the citizens should pay more so that the Government can function. It is however unfortunate that the masses(excluding those that benefited from the loots) and their opinions don't count in Governance. Regardless of how much they receive in extra taxes, there is no amount that is enough for a vision-less government. We hear everyday about funds being recovered and loots being repatriated but still, it seems that this government won't stop until the masses start feeding on themselves. In saner climates, citizens of a Nation see and enjoy what their taxes are used for. They have good roads, clean water, subsidized electricity, good public schools and even free health care in some countries. The opposite is the case in Nigeria. Bad roads, no electricity, no good water, no fuel, and healthcare is crappy and not even affordable. Then what exactly are the taxes used for in the first instance. Your guess is as good as mine. Until accountability and transparency to the masses are top of the government's list. There is no point giving them more money to waste on their luxurious and wasteful lifestyle. You will recall that everyone is now mandated to pay 50 naira for every amount received into their current accounts. Another instance is the increase in tariffs for power, but still no improvement. I know you all have the details as I do, so I will spare you. Now ask yourself this question. Will you pay a restaurant for food not served? Even if you are feeling like a philanthropist and you decide to give the restaurant some money for doing nothing, will you continue to pay every time they demand? Well, the Nigerian government knows that the masses can't do anything but rant online, so they continue to impose more duties and taxes and now the "change" government is about to stop your social media ranting by passing a new bill. I hope our suffering will not be till the end of time. By Marc Showie Source: http://www.naijavariety.com/2016/03/why-average-nigerian-shouldnt-pay-more.html |

Literature / How I Almost Died Because Of 4 Cubes Of Sugar by Jackter101(m): 7:44pm On Jan 22, 2016 |
This happened to me some years back. I was in the boarding house at one of the federal Government colleges in Nigeria. Your boy was in J.S.S. 1 then and had started learning the paramilitary ways of the school. One night, we (JSS 1 students) just got back to our hostel (Dormitory) from night prep and the “deputy head boy” as it was usually called, summoned all the JSS 1 students to the quadrangle. This is a square space left in the middle of our dormitory. He then announced ” J.S.S 1 boys, I want to study tonight, and so I need all of you to go straight into your rooms and jump on your beds. I don’t want to hear a sound from your rooms, do you understand?”, we all yelled, “Yes sir”. I know by now, those of you who never went to a Federal government boarding school in Nigeria are wondering what this boy is talking about. Let me just briefly explain to you. In our school then, senior students were gods. They had all the power over a junior student, not to talk of a prefect who is backed up by the school authority to deal with junior students at his discretion. This was the school culture and it was passed on from one set to the other just like a legacy is passed down from one generation to the other. Back to my story, he dismissed us, and we all ran to our rooms and jumped on our beds as instructed. Few minutes later, students started coming down from their beds, some to get provision from their boxes, while others just wanted to gist with their friends. I laid on my bed in full obedience not wanting the wrath of the deputy head boy. Suddenly, a voice came from the window, my bed was right by the window, and anyone outside could see me through the window (of course our windows had no nets). “Please junior”, he said, “please give me 4 cubes of sugar”, I was like “wtf” in my mind, I replied,”I am sorry, senior, I can’t give you, because the deputy head boy said no one should leave their beds”. Just to clarify this senior was in SS 1, and the deputy head boy was in S.S 3, so automatically, he should respect the deputy head boy’s orders. But this boy was not having any of that, he continued to beg me. “Please junior boy”, He said, “I beg you in the name of God, I am starving, just 4 cubes to soak my garri, and I will be grateful”, I still maintained my stand, and said I couldn’t leave my bed. Then he looked around and saw a locker with my last name inscribed on it. I know you are wondering if we were actually students or prisoners with names on our items. Well, don’t think too far, It was common practice. He then said something that caught my attention. “Are you not Showie’s brother”, Showie was in S.S.1 too and this guy knew him. I replied,”yes, why?” , He continued, “abeg now, Showie brother, I sabi your brother, he is a nice guy. Please help me, I am starving”. At this point I was touched and decided to help him. I got down from my bed and went to where my box was kept. It was in a closet built at the end of the room. So I was quite far from my bed and corner. Immediately I succeeded in opening my box, guess what? The deputy head boy entered my room, and students scampered avoiding being caught. I jumped down from the closet and ran. I was faster than my legs. I ran into my corner and instead of jumping on my bed, I rolled under my bed and to the next bed. So that if he even saw me, he wouldn’t be able to figure out I was under 1 bed away. The deputy head boy then came to my corner, I could see his legs, and I held my breath, and prayed not to be caught. He said, “I thought I saw a junior boy, run into this corner”. Nobody answered him. After like 10 seconds, He decided to leave. As he turned back to leave, the boy I was hiding underneath his bed just said, “He is here”, pulling his mattress up simultaneously. I almost died. I wished the ground could open and swallow me. My cover was blown, not just blown, it was blown by the guy who slept at the bed next to mine, at this moment, the senior who was begging for 4 cubes of sugar was nowhere to be found. The furious deputy head boy, yelled, “Are you a bastard?”, I was here asking and you could not come out. I froze, as he dazed me with multiple slaps, at this moment I saw stars, my vision went blue as I tried to block the remaining slaps. Then he told me to touch my toes and went to get 3 pieces of dry sticks (canes) and instructed me to hold the edge of the bunk and shoot my bum out. Mind you I was only wearing a boxer short made of cotton. He flogged me 56 strokes in total, as he told me he was going to 18, and 1 out of the 18 would be one stroke at the back of my leg, one at the back of my head, and the last on my buttocks. He went on and I cried uncontrollably. At a point I couldn’t find the tears anymore, my voice was lost and after he got to 56, I went to bed with my bum as red as the heated charcoal used for roasting corn. Romance / How To Deal With Break Ups For Guys by Jackter101(m): 8:47am On Jan 15, 2016 |
When a man is heartbroken, he is really down. He can’t co-ordinate properly any longer, neither can he concentrate at work. A lot of men resort to alcohol to console themselves. But once the hang over clears, they are back to sobbing and disorientation. The main reason why men hurt a lot is that, when they love, they really do. I can only speak for men, as I am one myself, and the only reason for this piece is to share the one solution that has worked overtime to overcome a devastating break up. Now to the point. Please note that this solution mostly works for relationships and has not been tested for divorce. Be also advised that it only works once you dissociate yourself from your emotions. Why is it difficult to deal with a break up? The answer is easy, we all love our comfort zone and we fear to try new things or explore the unknown. A popular sentence you hear after a break up is, “where am I going to start from, after these years”, my brother, once your boo leaves you, just leave trash for lawma, and start planning the next move. The more you dwell on the past, which is your relationship, the more you wallow in self pity. You start asking yourself. “was I not good enough”, “Is it that she has found a guy that lasts for 30 minutes in the first round”, or “does she think I will never make it big”. The answer to those questions, you will never find. Just have it at the back of your mind that people do things that are convenient for them for selfish reasons. That is why my first advice to men is to always think with their brains and not their hearts. Once you have a break up, pick up yourself, get dressed, look good and hit the streets. Go out, have fun, meet beautiful ladies and get yourself another boo. You most likely will even find a better girl than the one who left you. Once there is another person to fill that space, you feel better and your self esteem and worth goes back to 100. You doubt this solution, ask yourself how you will feel if you lose a job at Walmart, and get another one immediately at Google. Now to my next quest, how do ladies deal with break ups. Do you have a tested solution, Ladies please drop comments and let us know how you have dealt with heart breaks. Written by Marc Showie |

Taiwo and Dipo met in October 2014 through taiwo”s twin Sister Kenny, she had arranged a private beach party and managed to drag her out of her seclusion. ‘’The way we met was very funny, for the fact that we met at the beach, one of the places that I never thought I would meet my future husband. The first thing he said was “we know why we are here, I got really furious and I felt like what is wrong with this one. We eventually got talking because my twin begged me to have a chat with him #TONGUEOUT# .He invited me for a dinner date few days later and I felt this quick connection, We soon became good friends and spent a lot of time sharing and debating our views on a wide variety of topics and life in general . We started dating officially on his birthday 1st of November 2014 after a warm kiss. Things naturally progressed and Dipo has since been a source of encouragement and motivation. Fast forward to 5 months later, Dipo had told me to handle his friends proposal to his girlfriend, I came up with this lovely concept and also invited their mutual friends, I chose the ring, venue, menu, songs and I even made a banner I gave updates to his friend every day, I also came up with the blind fold game part and everyone including me were blindfolded, I was so happy I pulled it off and I was jumping and screaming in Bruno mars voice*I think I wana marry you*, Everyone except me knew what was happening. I opened my eyes and saw Dipo kneeling before me asking me to marry him, Jeez, I ran, moonwalker style #lol# I didn’t know what I was doing I went down and I said Yes, Yes and Yes over and over again. I chose to spend the rest of my life with no other person than the man that understands and compliments me. It’s been a time of learning about each other, learning to sacrifice for one another, learning to love the right way and above all learning to put God first together. We have been inseparable and helplessly in love ever since. See more pictures at http://naijavariety.com/2016/01/12/princess-taiwo-weds-her-knight-in-shining-armour-see-lovely-pictures/

She harbors generations within, Transporting destinies to a place of manifest, Makers of men and destroyers of same Posterity is at her beck and call, supplicating at her feet. Give me a trumpet to blow the praises of a virtuous woman, And also a trumpet to announce the woman of the latter, Deities that rule the world, with the staff of a tender heart, A caring soul, a loving and firm spirit, She is an enigma to many, but clear to those who are patient. A true woman lights up the unhappy, Garnishes hearts with ingredients of wisdom She is power, she is vision, and she is Victory She is love, she is success and she is achievement. She cleans her brows with the sweat of wisdom, Labours for the unforeseen as she smells danger Mothers of the seen world, Mothers of all She is an enigma to many, but clear to those who are patient. Salute strong women, those that cry when even men don’t, Showing that expressing emotion is strength and harbouring it is weakness, To my mothers I pay homage, to thee all I genuflect in humility, My wonderful “Yeyes” and “Arewas”, Consented Idols by God, “Lives within lives” and “death within lives” May women continue to flourish the face of the earth, As their presence aborts extinction of mankind Woman the glorious backbone of the world She is an enigma to many, but clear to those who are patient. written by Ephraim Odunusi Source: http://naijavariety.com/2016/01/09/the-woman-a-must-read/ |
Romance / The Revenge - A Must Read by Jackter101(m): 9:19am On Jan 08, 2016 |
Adekunle was a brilliant naïve SS 2 boy who was the talk of the class amongst SS2 girls as he neither fancied their company nor was exposed enough to handle their antics. He decided to keep to himself and face the only thing he knows how to do best; academics. Not too long after the first term exam, Adekunle was approached by a girl named Adeola. Adeola was brave enough to express her feelings toward him. Kunle being the naïve guy didn’t know how to handle such situation, and decided to tell her to back off. This didn’t deter the girl’s efforts at all as she kept coming back stronger. When Kunle realized that this particular girl was hell-bent on being his friend at least, he soft pedaled and decided to see how things would go. Even though he was not a fan of Adeola at all, as Adeola was playful and unserious and was always bottom in art class. As days rolled by, Adeola began boasting to the girls in school that she is Adekunle’s girlfriend. “ I am the most brilliant boy in SS2’s girl” she would say anytime she wants her friends to get jealous. So one day, when Adekunle was heading home after school, he got approached by 3 hefty guys, who told him that their leader wanted to see him. He was shocked, afraid and frozen. He had never experienced such before. He followed the guys and got to a shed where one lanky looking sun burned guy was seated with other guys holding sticks. Immediately Adekunle saw him, he figured out he was their leader. The leader said, “So this is the rat that is competing with me for my girl”, startled Adekunle was like “I don’t understand”, Then the leader continued “you are too tiny for me, just one warning, leave Adeola alone”, Adekunle was about to explain himself when the lanky guy continued, “If I have to come back here a second time you won’t like yourself”. Adekunle still jittering said, “okay sir”. As he turned to leave, he saw Adeola running towards him, with her heavy chest bouncing up and down. Way too huge for an SS2 girl. Then to his surprise, Adeola knelt down and started begging this scary looking guy who just scared the living day out of Kunle. It was then Kunle realized that Adeola was actually this “Tout’s girlfriend. Seeing this, Kunle distanced himself from Adeola in coming weeks and decided to do his own investigation. He later found out that a classmate of his was this “Leader’s” younger brother and was the informant. A class mate named Tase, who gullibly or intentionally as Kunle interpreted it carried the news that Kunle is now dating his brother’s girlfriend. After all He couldn’t really blame this class mate of his, as it was all Adeola’s fault. Innocent Kunle then decided to revenge, at least get back at Tase, for dragging his name and reputation through the mud. Kunle knew he had no one to fight for him, and could not stand Tase’s brother and gang, even though he was sure he could beat Tase on a one-on-one battle. He wasn’t ready to risk another round of Tase’s brother’s fury. So Kunle waited for the perfect time to revenge, and this time never came until the GSCE external exams where a couple of students in SS2 decided to try their luck before the final WASSCE in SS3. On a particular day, It was the day to write mathematics exam, a couple friends of Kunle were approached by a group of boys at their exam center and they were beaten up. One of Kunle’s friends, Jibola, who managed to escape unscathed was furious and boiling with the urge to revenge, as he had older brothers who could back him up. When Kunle heard of this story, He decided to use it to his advantage, and went to Jibola with a claim that Tase’s brother’s gang was behind the attack, and that he was very sure. Jibola who was still very mad, decided to wait till after school hours and approached Tase. Tase obviously didn’t know what he was talking about, but Jibola wasn’t ready to have any of that. He pounced on him immediately and beat the living day out of Tase. He even did it to the point that he asked him to call his brother, to come and fight for him. Tase was beaten blue black and Kunle smiled home finally having his day after 6 months of long wait. What do you think of Kunle’s method of getting back? Do you think Tase deserved it? Is that wisdom or deceit? Drop your comments and let us know what you feel. |
