atuagbo: @jam04 am interested in having a small pond of 500 fishes on a plot of land. Have drilled the borehole and I want it in concrete form. My question is what dimension should I use for the size and what are other things I need to put in place.first do a water test of the borehole to ascertain its condition. A client once encountered a borehole problem, she dug a borehole and fed the water to the fishes without testing. Her fishes are always weak and die in great numbers. It also took several months b4 they attain considerable size. When I visited the farm @ her request, I immediately noticed that the movement of the fishes to be poor and they lack sufficient oxygen. We carried out a test on the borehole and found out it has very low Ph (3.7). As for the size to contain 500 pcs, if your target weight is 1kg, a 12ft by 12ft concrete pond with inlet and meshed outlet water system is okay. |

aguiyi: guess you have guys who do this job. can you link me up. am planing to do it in Enugu, i already somebody tell me 300k, thats like twice the price were you are.did you ask the person why the high price? your land location might have basement rock. besides, i do not have any driller who can move from here to Enugu for the job |
aguiyi: what will it cost me to sink a borehole in a farm, i want to start with that before constructing the pond.cost of sinking borehole varies depending on location and land type. We dig here for 150k |
OLAplusONE: Pls op, what sort of disinfectant or treatment can I use to my earthen pond after de-mudding?naturally you don't need a disinfectant unless the land is already contaminated before. But you can use lime as most farmers do but if your water and soil conditions are good, you don't need it. I know of a farmer who disinfected his pond using phostozine, the fishes started dying as from the 2nd day that he later had to drain the pond and pack out the mud. Most chemicals get settled down in the mud, that even after pumping out the water, sediments still remain |

OXYZ: Nobody knows it all. The number of years you've spent in the industry still make you a neophyte. Fish farming is really broad and it is a field that is practically mourn .this applies to all industries. No one is an island |
Wealthyonos: am already working on my pond. Its a natural one and i intend starting by sept/oct this year. I have a pond that can contain 5million fishes. Please is there any advice u will like to offer? Am going to start gradually though. Because i need experience.I'm sure this is a mistake, probably you meant to say 5000 fishes? What do you mean by a natural pond? |
aguiyi: am interested.good you have intentions, before committing funds, start by visiting a practising fish farm and see how things are done..you can do this for maybe 2 or 3 times. Ask questions too, whether they give you correct or incorrect ones, its a great way to start |

I hv use diff kinds of creams, powders and even d red flower, still did not go. pls will appreciate ur experienced answes.since the Red flower did not work, I doubt if it is Eela. Try to change her diaper often during the day..Maybe 3 times in a day( I could have suggested 4 but 3 is okay so as to expose the area to air b4 next diaper change) |

***UPDATE*** DO NOT GO INTO CATFISH FARMING IF YOU CAN NOT PRODUCE YOUR OWN FEED. This information is important now this year 2022 as this article is over 4 years old. Do not let online and paper farmers deceive you. They dont run successful farms After a brief participation in few cat fish threads, i get LOTS of calls and emails requesting for one info or the other. these informations i gladly provided. most of these people requested that i package a kind of book or a blog for them where they can get practical and real time info which is applicable on their farm. One factor i noticed is that 99% of all those that made contact really thought making money from cat fish farming is easy and quick. i also notice most of these people really do not have the time to practice this themselves and are ready to get an 'experienced' hand to do the business for them. which experienced hand will help handle an another man's business knowing fully well that the owner is not always around? i laugh at such gullibility!!! or how can we explain someone that called me from Akure, he said he has 4m to invest in cat fish back in his home-town state somewhere in Abia, but he doesn't have time to monitor it and he got an 'experienced' consultant who will manage it for him and the consultant promise him a monthly average of 2m. hahahahahhaa. or a man who said he was sold a chemical booster that when poured inside the water, will help his fishes grow? he lost over 15m. yes you read it right, 15,000,0000(15 million). i visited the farm in Owerri( orlu ) and i saw things for myself. i didn't believe what i saw my people!!!. After over 4 PRACTICAL years experience in fish farming( i graduated from a university of agriculture and i did over 5 fishery courses) , i have come to realise every aspiring cat fish farmer needs a reference hand book to help them. it will be a reference manual after practical experience Due to popular demand, i have put together an E-book for those that want to really know the secret of successful cat fish farmers. yes, every business has its secret and cat fish farming is not exempted. most fish farmers operate at a subsistence level and hardly make substantial profit from fish sales. Let me set the record straight, this E-book is not for everyone..YES you read me right,i dont intend to sell to everyone even when you have the money to buy( it is not cheap either). you have to pass my interview and test before i decide to sell to you and i have sold 3 copies so far( NL tsunami wiped out the last thread) and have 7 copies left to share out.Not every successful business is ready or quick to sell his/her business secret.. or have you seen 1? i was dared by some pple here to produce successful farmers like myself and that they will like to hear their success stories, this is why i decided to sell just 10 copies and have a team of successful farmers around me. so lets see who will pass my test and have one of these copies Just like i did on the other thread, you are very much free to ask any question and i will gladly answer. one thing has changed though, i wont entertain private phone questions, any questions you have should be shared on the thread, so that others can learn as well. so lets hear your farm stories. i shall be sharing experiences i have when i visited other people's farm. they are mind boggling.. i tell you. one farm i visited in the East, wasted over 15m on cat fish and didnt see anything to show for it after 6 months.. yes you read me right, 15 cool million naira. i was once in his boot but mine was just 5 million. i shall share the details as we progress on the thread. cheers Olayiwola farms( A division of penthouse industries) olulay@yahoo.com ,08090938426 , 09163410961

Trust me, I will spend millions to collect millions cos I clearly have a case in court, 2 weeks turned to 5 months and didn't produce the expected result. Chai!! |
