My people, let me confess again that I doff my hat for this Sanusi of a man. Can you believe that about Seventy Six Billion Naira (#76b) has been repaid by debtors within this short period? This confirms that only iron hand can rescue Nigeria from all the messes (political, social, economic, religious etc) it is in. Kudos Sanusi! |

Signs of a failing state: 1. A national police force that terrorizes the people instead of protecting them 2. A customs service that's out to steal from your imported container more than agberos 3. An army that attacks its own people. 4. A navy that protects oil bunkerers 5. University system that's on strike 10 months out of the 12 academic months of the year. The list goes on. Effect of leadership Failure. |

It's a pity I don't know your financial/political standing. However, which ever divide you belong, you will agree with me that in Nigeria today, if you have money, political power or connections, you automatically become a force to be reckoned with in the society. Otherwise, you are on your own.
While I support the clarion call for a better police force, I will appreciate we adopt a realistic approach. If the change must be effective, it must start from our political leaders who are saddled with the responsibility of leading the nation aright. Note that, If you must have a clean bathe, you must start from the head. |

I have read many posts criticising the unprofessional behaviours of the Nigeria Police. While I do not support their acts, I wish to state that the problem of Nigeria is a wholistic one which must be tackled wholistically. Singling out the Police for the problem of Nigeria is unfair. The police are not from the moon, neither are they angels from heaven. They are Nigerians, flesh and blood, and are therefore behaving like typical Nigerians who believe in making it by hook or crook. As of today, morality is seen by most as immorality in Nigeria. The slogan that "the end justifies the means" has become the motto and as such every illegal ways to achieve is welcome.
I hope those lambasting the Police know that Nigerians who stole from the treasury live luxurious lives, are worshipped and are given chieftaincy titles and honorary degrees, while those who exhibit honesty and without money barely exist and are seen as never -do- wells, who deserve no recognition in the society. The police therefore, being part of the larger society has no choice but to follow the accepted trend. Remember that the trend is your friend. |

By this singular declaration by Sanusi to resign if his actions are fundamentally wrong, I see sincerity in Sanusi to revamp the ailing banks. However, I smell some serious backyard politics to rubbish him just like it happened to those before him who attempted straightening some ugly side of the country. I know nigerians like it to be biz as usual. I can't believe that some untouchables can be touched in this damn country. I am perplexed to see owed funds returning into the bank coffers, stealthily. This is unbelievable in Naija! It is my candid opinion that Mr President give him the necessary support to cleanup the mess in the banking sector, as this could be used as the lauch pad to pursue the anti-corruption war. This is a great opportunity to fight corruption. Apart from the allegation that Sanusi wants to sell the ownership of these banks to foreigners, which I pray he shouldn't, I doff my hat for his actions so far. Kudos Sanusi! |

True. The Gov of Central Bank should use this opportunity of war against erring banks to also visit the case of investors in the so-call wonder banks that is pending before the Inter-Agency Committee. “This Inter-Agency Committee made up of SEC, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) is still looking into the issue” Wonder Bank: case still before Inter-Agency Committee
Peter OBIORA Proshare NI May 28, 2009 at 16:52 GMT The issue of refund of money to investors into the failed Wonder Banks is a pending one; as the case is still before the Inter-Agency Committee set up to look into it. Lanre Oloyi, Head, Media of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) confirmed this today Thursday May 28 2009 to Proshare NI. “This Inter-Agency Committee made up of SEC, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) is still look into the issue” Oloyi said. He affirmed that they have to verify status of accounts of those who invested in the Wonder Banks. This is coming on the heels of investors’ enquiries to Proshare NI as regards what hope do investors have for a likely refund of their money into the Wonder Banks. As earlier reported by Proshare NI following enquires from investors of one of the Wonder Banks; Nospetco Oil and Gas Limited (Nospetco). They are blaming the CBN and the SEC on their woes of not recouping their money in the failed Wonder Bank saga. These investors are of the view that the Regulatory Authorities should come to dialogue with the Management of the company to see how the issue of refunding depositors fund should be resolved. Before this time, Oloyi of SEC had affirmed that the Inter-Agency Committee is meeting and collating relevant documents to assess the status of those who invested in these Wonder Banks. Proshare NI also gathered that some of the investors are calling on Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Outgoing Governor of CBN to help facilitate the release and payment of their money before leaving office. On November 22 2007, SEC took 37 Wonder Banks before the Investment and Securities Tribunal (IST), advising it to authorise the closure of the offices of these companies; for the reason that they did not obtain the necessary licences to operate either as Fund or Investment Managers in the Nigerian Capital Market (NCM). Some of the Wonder Banks affected by the clampdown include Fortune Access Interlinks Network, Pennywise Investment Limited, Cyber International Limited, Gold Power Unique Services Limited, Gorutrans Nigeria Company Limited, Interglobal Investment Limited, Money Field Limited, New Freedom Diversified Investment Limited, Open Gate Multipurpose Investors Limited, Orion Express Global Services Limited, and Art Master & Co. Limited. Others are Wealth Solution Limited, Wealth Transfer and Logistic Limited, Wilson O. Wilson (Doing business in the name and style of Wilamas Ventures), Wisdom Investments Nigeria Limited, and Nospetco Oil and Gas Limited. Positive Move International Nigeria Limited, Precious Golden Profile, Real and Cool Wealth International Limited, Shola Olanrewaju Ayinke (Sefteg Nigeria Company), Silvertrust Global Investment, Successpoint International Investment Limited, Torid Investment Limited Treasured Fund Assets Limited Vikel Petroleum Limited. Also on the list are Wealth Concepts Global Ltd, Wealthgage Multibiz International Limited and Wealth Interlink Agency Limited. http://www.proshareng.com/news/singlenews.php?id=6660 |
