Politics / APC Governors Move Against Tambuwal’s Ambition, Prefer To Support Buhari by jamesw: 4:27am On Nov 17, 2014
Fresh indications have emerged that governors of All Progressives Congress may not support the presidential ambition of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal. They appear to be more inclined to queuing behind Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) as the preferred presidential candidate of the party for the 2015 election, SUNDAY PUNCH reports.

According the report, the governors are suspecting that those asking the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, to pick the presidential form are enemies of the party.
This was disclosed by two APC governors who spoke with the newspaper on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Politics / The Story Of My Journey In Lagos With Agberos by jamesw: 3:37pm On Nov 16, 2014
I went to Lagos on November 10, 2014 for an interview. I was to leave Lagos on the 13th of November, 2014 back to Abuja. Lagos to Abuja, being a distant journey, I left my place of stay very early that fateful day.

Arriving under the bridge at Jibowu, I alighted from the “yellow painted danfo bus”. I am not very familiar with Lagos area, so being in dilemma, I stood upright for a short moment, looking on the wooden curved square boxes placed on the top of buses to see the bus company of my interest. I actually had “The Young Shall Grow Motors Ltd.” or “Ifesinachi Mass Transit (IMT) in mind.

Suddenly, I saw a group of boys which quickly surrounded me. They are using all kinds of foul languages and slangs. One quickly placed his hand in my pocket.

Thank God I did not have any money there and my mobile phone is firmly held in my hand. I later noted the group to be touts (agberos). Those guys are interested in making passengers enter a particular bus against their wish or choice, especially a bus that is want of passengers.

But I was astounded that a company like “Teile Express Motors Nig. Ltd.” could be involved in such heinous crime. Teile Express Motors Nig. Ltd. set up those agberos to drag people and their luggage. They force, push, humiliate, suppress, terrify, threaten and even rob the passengers.

To them (i.e. the touts), it is either you enter that very particular bus by force or they must rob you of your phone, money or any other belongings. They might end up beating and injuring you. You have no choice. You either choose one. Yet, the manager of that station pretends not to be aware of what is happening.

Where now dwells the fundamental rights of Nigerian in our constitution?

Right to life

Right to dignity of human persons

Right to personal liberty

Right to movement

Right to freedom of thought and conscience etc.eile Express Motors Nig. Ltd. deprived me and other passengers of all these rights.

This is the condition I found myself in Lagos. But, surprisingly, police officers, military personnel and men and women (both civil and business people) will just be by-passing without any of them coming to your aid and rescue. If you like, shout down heaven, you are on your own.

It is either you win them or they win you. But how can a single individual prevail over such a number of touts?

Now, I have come to understand that “Teile Express Motors Nig. Ltd.” do collude with touts (agberos) to be perpetrating evil and crime in the city of Lagos and nobody is speaking out.

Out of 15 passengers except three that filled the bus, the others were cajoled into the bus against their wish. My laptop’s hand bag was torn. Others belongings got spoilt. Some aged women (mothers) were injured and gripped with fear; wish I believe must increase anxiety and HBP in some.

Everything I have said here is nothing but the truth. If you demand for the bus manifest for that day (13/11/14) where every passenger’s data were entered before the voyage and ask the passengers to tell their ordeals, you will hear exactly or even more of all I have said here.

In essence, you may persuade and convince people about your business. Give them cogent reasons why you are the best and why they should patronize you, but not to terrify, threaten and force them against their wish.

All these events happened in the morning, around 7am. If such could happen at such a time, I guess what could happen in the night.

I therefore, call on Lagos government to help tighten up security around parks to avoid touts molesting innocent people. Police should be keen to their tasks and protect the citizens. They should do their work with seriousness and shun bribery.

Meaningful and peace-loving Nigerians should be apt to respond to the cry of a fellow citizen, especially one in danger. And of most importantly, “Teile Express Motors Nig. Ltd.” should desist from such heinous crime.

Family / I'm A Mother Of 2 Boys, And I Can't (and Won't) Support Feminism by jamesw: 9:55am On Nov 13, 2014
Yes, I'm a woman. But, I've had it with feminism. Here's why.
I'm a wife, mother, sister, daughter, business owner, sports nut and beer lover, but I am not a feminist. I may have been at one time, but then I became the mother of two boys and I realized that I cannot align with a message that has changed into something degrading, offensive, accusatory and opposed to the morals and messages I am teaching my kids.

You see, I'm kind of psyched to be raising my boys as gentlemen. I am proud to raise them to be hard-working and dedicated providers...

Family / Ten Reasons Why Geeks Make The Best Husbands by jamesw: 9:05pm On Nov 12, 2014
In case you've been hiding under a rock for the last ten years—geeks have taken Hollywood and the dating scene by storm. With popular shows like The Office, The Big Bang Theory, andSherlock casting the likes of Steve Carrel, John Krasinski, Jim Parsons, and Benedict Cumberbatch, women all over the world started searching for their own Mr. Knight in Shining (albeit role playing) Armor. The internet has since been abuzz with various reasons why you should date a geek, but I'd like to take it a step further. Behold, ten reasons why marrying a geek was the best decision I ever made—and why you should too:

1. You get a personal techie for life.
Let's get the most obvious feature of coupling up with a computer wiz out of the way—you never have to feel outsmarted by a tech gadget ever again. In fact, your nerdy hubby might even revel in the moments that he gets to demonstrate his technical prowess for you! An added bonus—you can use said knowledge as a bartering tool. Faucet broke? No problem! Uncle Jim the plumber can come over and fix it for a couple hours' worth of computer debugging. Problem solved.

2. Geeks are very passionate about stuff—lots of it.
Whether he's into video gaming, role playing, or building new computers from scratch—your geeky husband has interesting hobbies of his own. This works out great because now you have extra time on Tuesday nights for a Netflix marathon or a night out with the girls while your man runs his weekly DnD session. The best part—he doesn't expect you to be interested in his hobbies, and doesn't feel the need to explain them to you either (Honestly, who can say that about Monday night football?).

3. They're creative!
Geeky men are incredibly creative. They spend hours thinking up alternate universes with detailed character names and descriptions for role playing games, and some of them even design and build original video games and computer programs. You can bet that your Christmas gift isn't going to be some lame infomercial product or random gift certificate at the mall. House hunting with your geeky hubby? Not to worry—he'll be able to see some potential in that run down Cape you can barely afford.

4. AND extremely thoughtful.
Speaking of gifts and holidays—your man will never forget them! He can give you an accurate figure of how long you've been dating, engaged or married right down to the day. Your husband will also check the ratings and reviews on almost every product that he buys (hello Amazon!), only selecting the best for you.

5. Not to mention successful!
It's no surprise that most geeks have impressive career goals and positive job outlooks. Now, I'm not advocating that you move to Silicon Valley and marry the first web developer you can find, but there is something to be said for financial stability in a life partner, and it shouldn't be overlooked.

6. Geeks are loyal by nature.
They are loyal to their chosen geekdom, and most importantly—loyal to you. (Ever been lucky enough to witness a debate over which operating system is better, or who played the bestDoctor? You'll catch my drift here.) It goes without saying that loyalty is imperative to a healthymarriage.

7. They’re also low maintenance.
Most geeky men could care less if you have designer shoes, and unfortunately if that's your thing, they probably couldn't identify them either. Your nerdy hubby is likely to prefer you fresh-faced and in your comfiest clothes. They're also very appreciative of small gestures like homemade cards (bonus points if you incorporate a nerdy pun like "you auto-complete me!"wink and baked goods. But really, what man doesn't love a delicious baked good?

8. They make the BEST trivia teammates!
All that random knowledge can be put to the test at a weekly trivia night! Doubling as a date night or fun on the town with some friends, this gives both of you a chance to de-stress and have a good time!

9. They have genuinely nice friends.
Forget overgrown frat boys and sports obsessed meatheads, you are likely to inherit a couple of sweet and sensitive nerdy guy friends when you marry one of their clan. I can honestly say that my husband's friends are also my best friends—one of them was even the JP at our wedding!

10. And a great sense of humor.
Geeks have the best sense of humor. Because they’re so smart wit comes naturally to them, however they're not a pretentious bunch. My husband laughs harder at my bad puns more than anyone I know (which is obviously a key factor in the longevity of our marriage). He can also keep up with my lightning-fast banter, which would likely fall on deaf ears and confused faces were he an aforementioned meathead.

The best part about marrying a geek is that they come in all different packages, all of which have something wonderfully unique and understated to offer. If you accept their quirks and support their passions they are more than willing to do the same for you. Besides, we all have a little geek in us—whether you're into knitting, climbing all the 4,000 footers, or fantasy football—I bet you've got something you "fan girl" over every now and then. So give the geeky guy a chance!
