Music/RadioVOTE Wisely: Between Omah Lay, Bella Shmurda, Oxlade Or Tems (HEADIES NEXTRATED) by Jamir1(op): 9:59pm On Dec 18, 2020
On December 4. 2020, Headies awards published the nominee list for the 2020 edition of the award show. Nigerian singers, Omah Lay, Bella Shmurda, Oxlade, and Tems were nominated for one of the hottest award categories of the show, the Next Rated Category.

Port Harcourt singer and music producer, Omah Stanley Dibia popularly known as Omah Lay earned his first headies award Next Rated nomination after dishing out two powerful projects this year. The talented singer dominated a major part of the year with singles like Bad Influence off his debut project Get Layd. He made an appearance on Olamide’s Carpe Diem album, linked up with Wizkid and DJ Tunez in Pami. In less than 12 months, Omah Lay has now become a household name in the country just before dropping his recent EP What Have We Done which has so far given him another hit song in Godly.

The only lady nominated in this category this year, Tems is a new kid whose sexy vocals and mind-blowing melodies offered her collaboration with Wizkid on his fourth studio album Made in Lagos. She is arguably one of Nigeria’s biggest artistes in 2020. Her songs Damages off her debut project For Broken Ears EP.

Just before getting discovered by Canadian rapper, Drake, Oxlade has been one of the few artistes whose growth has been organic and inspiring. Oxlade just like Tems and Omah Lay premiered his debut extended play Oxygene in 2020. The singer who linked up with Moelogo dished out a powerful project on March 27, 2020, which gave him a hit single like Away.

Bella Shmurda on the other hand has been practically living his ‘Vision 2020’ life. The singer's growth should be studied. With due respect to his talent and work, it seems like magic how a singer who talked about blowing up in a song tagged Vision 2020 will be one of the hottest artiste in Nigeria a year after. He recently teamed up with Zanku records boss, Zlatan, and Lincoln in ‘Cash App’. Just before making an unimaginable appearance on Olamide’s Carpe Diem’s album and Davido’s A Better Time album, Bella Shmurda premiered his debut project High Tension EP on January 27, 2020.

With a close look at their numbers, talent, and potential between Omah Lay, Bella Shmurda, Oxlade, and Tems who do you consider your Headies Next Rated 2020?

Music/RadioCould The Arrest Of Omah Lay Affect His Career? by Jamir1(op): 9:46pm On Dec 18, 2020
On 14th December 2020, Nigerian singers Omah Stanley Dibia aka Omah Lay and Temilade Openiyi aka Tems were reportedly arrested in Uganda where they went for a live show. The Nigerian singers Tems and Omah Lay were then charged to court for flaunting the COVID-19 laws in Uganda.
According to reports, Omah Lay was charged with “Negligently doing acts likely to spread infectious diseases.” The talented music producer was facing a seven years jail term if found guilty of the charge. The Ugandan police tweeting on their verified Twitter handle claimed Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems, and Muyiwa Awomiyi were charged to court in Makindye on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread infectious diseases. The police said Omah Lay went against section 171 of the Ugandan Penal Code.

The penal code of negligent act likely to spread infection of disease states that

“Any person who unlawfully or negligently does any act which is and which he or she knows or has reason to believe to be likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life commits an offense and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.”

Though Omah Lay and Tems were later released on Wednesday 16th December 2020 following the protests by their fans, other Nigerian celebrities, and the efforts of the Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs, this incident will most definitely affect Omah Lay’s brand.

Here are a few ways the arrest could affect Omah Lay’s brand as a musical artiste.

Engagement
Omah Lay so far stands as a virtual artiste who came to the limelight at a time when live shows, concerts, and other events were put on hold making it difficult for his fans to have a real-life connection with him. He has only been topping charts on streaming platforms and hasn’t had a chance to relate to his fans and connect properly with him. Though the majority of his fans are yet to connect with him physically, the arrest has giving most of them an opportunity to show him love with the social media protests and an opportunity to have him share with their struggles as humans.

More Streams and Exposure
Even though Omah Lay is already popular on Ugandan apple music as well as other African artists, this arrest made it to so many media firms within and outside Africa. This is organic publicity for Omah Lay. Most people who followed the arrest story will likely check out his material giving him more streams and exposure after all no publicity is bad publicity.

Music/RadioL.A.X - "Zaza Vibes" Album Review / Download by Jamir1(op):
Talented Nigerian singer and songwriter, L.A.X finally released his sophomore album tagged “Zaza Vibes” on November 25, 2020.
The former Starboy Entertainment recording artiste, Damilola Afolabi popularly known as L.A.X teams up with a list of Nigerian megastars in his second studio album “Zaza Vibe”. L.A.X who left Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment to launch his own imprint, Rasaki Inc is obviously ready to build a rich catalog of songs with his recent body of work.

“Zaza Vibes” is a follow back to his debut album tagged “Rasaking” released on October 29, 2018. The 12-tracks project by L.A.X features DMW vibe machine, Peruzzi, Banku Music boss, Mr Eazi, Universal Music recording artiste, Tiwa Savage, Tekno, Simi, Timiboi and Omah The DJ. “Zaza Vibes” is supported with four singles “Lose My Mind”, “Gobe Remix”, “Sade”, and “Go Low”.

The album was produced by Clemzy, Legendary Beatz, Quebeatz, Blaise Beatz, and Spotless.

L.A.X - "Zaza Vibes" Album Review

- In “Lose My Mind” L.A.X and Clemzy cook up a mid-tempo afro-beat tune for a mysterious lover.

- With a little help from Timiboi and Peruzzi, L.A.X presents “Commando”. The tune is adorable and magnificent. Peruzzi came through with his sexy and melodious vocals.

- “Sade” is one of the singles on this project. It’s a solo-performed afro-fusion vibe with naughty lyrics. The bridge ‘Shey you the see, shey you believe, Louis Vuitton for your body, I want to touch I want to kiss…’ made it even more beautiful.

- The next track “Bum Bum” is an up-tempo dancehall jam featuring Omah The DJ. It was produced by QueBeatz.

- “Sempe” is a very melodic song. The chords laid on the instrumental by Clemzy are spiritual. L.A.X gave this instrumental the kind of vibes it begged for.

- L.A.X links up with Blaise Beatz on this deliciously creepy funky tune tagged “Pere”.

- “Superman” is another solo-performed joint on this project. L.A.X and Clemzy gave a classic performance on this slow-paced jam that served as the interlude.

- Legendary Beatz teams up with L.A.X in what appears to be one of the hottest jams on this project. “Feeling” is a powerful tune.

- Mr Eazi joins L.A.X and Clemzy in "Perfect" to confess love to a mysterious lady on this Afrobeat jam. Mr Eazi’s vocals were more like a catalyst on this one.

- “Go Low” is a South African afro-house tune from the Rasaki boss. It’s one of the singles on this project.

- L.A.X employs the services of Cartel Music boss, Tekno in a highlife flavoured afro-fusion track tagged “Jara”.

- After dishing out the original track with legendary singer, 2Baba, L.A.X partners with Simi and Tiwa Savage to give us a female version of his hit track in “Gobe Remix”.

Music/Radio5 Lessons Every Artiste Should Learn From Omah Lay by Jamir1(op):
Nigeria's talented music producer, singer, and songwriter, Omah Stanley Dibia popularly known as Omah Lay broke into the music industry in 2020.

Too many, Omah Lay's breakthrough is simply grace and luck but that isn't the case. The Port Harcourt born singer has been in the game for a while now. Omah Lay has been into music production for sometime before dishing out his tracks "You" and "Bad Influence" that got him the fame he's enjoying now.

Omah Lay didn't just come out to meet fame. He has been in the game for a while but only known to his circle of friends and followers just like you. He was faced with financial issues just like you. This article is to guide you through and show you a few lessons you could learn from Omah Lay's success story.

Here are 5 lessons every artiste should learn from Omah Lay

1. Be Patient
Just like I mentioned above, Omah Lay wasn't in a haste. He paid the price by sticking to his sound and waiting for his time. Don't be too desperate. Desperation could only be positive energy when rightly managed both most cases, it's never managed rightly. Try as much as possible to be patient.

2. Have a leverage
Omah Lay is a music producer and a recording artiste. He also mixes and masters some of his songs. This I believe is leverage. It must have been easier for him to bag a recording deal with the label knowing fully well that his multi-talents could cut down costs for them.

3. Be Flexible
Flexibility is important while growing as an artiste. Omah Lay has been able to evolve drastically. His growth from 2017 up till this minute is something every artiste should study. You should be ready and willing to try new materials, challenge yourself to work on weird beats, and discover your true potential.

4. Motivate Yourself
It's not easy to climb the ladder as a musical artiste. Pushing from an underground level to stardom is as difficult as you can ever imagine. You need self-motivation to be grinding. Nobody is going to motivate you more than you are willing to be motivated. Motivate yourself!

5. Be Organic
In as much as you need to try new sounds, deliberately try to penetrate new markets and all, authenticity is important. Ensure you remain true to your sound.

Music/RadioOmah Lay "Get Layd" VS "What Have We Done" (choose Wisely) by Jamir1(op): 3:59am On Nov 26, 2020
In less than a year, Omah Stanley Dibia popularly known as Omah Lay has released two adorable projects tagged 'Get Layd' and 'What Have We Done'.
The Port Harcourt singer and music producer, Omah Lay popped up early this year when his singles "Bad Influence" and "You" off his debut project caught the attention of many music lovers.

Omah Lay formerly known as Lil King started off as a producer and songwriter in Port Harcourt. According to the singer, he majored as a rapper before switching to music production fully. Upon his discovery by KeyQaad Entertainment, Omah Lay dumped full-time music production to sing. Omah Lay who claimed he wasn’t getting enough credit as a music producer returned to music performance but now as a singer. He then recorded and put out ‘Do not Disturb’ and ‘Hello Brother’ in his hometown Port Harcourt just before signing to KeyQaad.

On the 22nd of May, Omah Lay dropped his debut project titled “Get Layd”. The five tracks body of work was assisted by to previously release singles ‘You’ and ‘Bad Influence’. The solo-performed body of work gave Omah Lay the necessary audience he needed to launch his brand in Nigeria’s competitive music space. The EP instantaneously attained commercial success. ‘Get Layd’ EP by Omah Lay became one of the most streamed albums on streaming platforms like Deezer, Audiomack. Songs like “Bad Influence” topped the Nigerian Apple music most played song for weeks.

After bagging over a hundred million total streams on the album, Omah Lay dished out his second project "What Have We Done". Omah Lay linked up with American rapper and singer, 6lack to create another five tracks project to further cement his breakthrough into the music scene. The EP had amazing sounds like "Godly", "Can't Relate" and "My Bebe" and was assisted by the remix of his song "Damn" featuring 6lack.
With his sexy vocals and powerful instrumentals from Tuzi, Tempoe, Bizzouch and Echotheguru, Omah Lay ponder on "What Have We Done" EP.

Celebrities[FULL REASONS] Mavin Records Rema Had The Best Year In Nigerian Music In 2019 by Jamir1(op): 8:05pm On Dec 25, 2019
www.nairaland.com/attachments/10784957_rema1_jpeg9b6d1719adf883e66bffe9b269f3b9ba

As a music critic whose ears has been down, I think I will be raising an inarguable topic by saying that Rema has had a better year as compared to Wizkid and Davido.

The 22nd of March 2019 will forever be honoured and remembered in the Nigerian music scene as the day Mavin records, boss Don Jazzy announced the signing of Nigeria’s biggest young talent, Rema. `The youngster` took the stage and possessed it like he has always been ready for the moment. He mastered his craft, sold his sound and was warmly welcomed by lovers of afrobeats who were tired of the same sounds being recycled among our top stars.

Though I will love to desist from comparing his (Rema) 2019 successes with other artistes, I must highlight a few things he has achieved in 2019 that no other artiste can brag of.

1. Rema in his first career year became the first Nigerian act to have his albums on the apple music Top 2 album chart with his REMA and Freestyle EP.
2. He is the only Nigerian listed on President Obama’s Summer Playlist 2019. With his song ‘Iron Man’ sitting comfortably on No. 42 of the 44 tracklist.
3. Still in 2019, Rema became the first Nigerian teenager to attain 50 million streams across all streaming platform
4. Rema is the first artist to have 4 TRAP songs topping the apple music most played songs.

In their first career years, Wizkid and Davido were popping but none had international recognition like Rema. In fact, comparing Rema’s first career year to Wizkid and Davido’s, is an insult to the young mavin.

Let’s not forget that Rema could have hundreds if not thousands of Americans and Europeans singing and dancing to songs he made barely six month after dropping his first official single under his new management deal with Mavin records and Jonzing world.

With all these unimaginable achievements in view, I belief it will be wise to say that Rema had a better year as compared to other Nigerian musicians.

CelebritiesLord Of Lamba Or Lord Of Copy And Paste? Naira Marley 'LOL' EP Review by Jamir1(op): 8:35pm On Dec 20, 2019
Nigeria's most controversial rapper with an active court case for fraud and car theft has finally premiered his debut body of work , the 'Lord of Lamba' EP.

The 6-track EP features DMW act Mayorkun with production credits from Young John, Rexxie and Killertunez. For the record, Naira Marley stuck to his sound the very one that fetched him fame. He didn't take risks in trying new sounds. He simply stuck to the lamba that got him here and the lamba is actually good enough to earn him outrageous numbers on streaming platforms.

The EP has garnered over 900,000 streams on popular audio streaming platform Audiomack. Apart from the 'YanYanYan' song featuring Mayrokun, the whole EP is a copy and paste. Naira Marley simply teamed up with his producer friend Rexxie to copy and paste all the sounds in all songs.

Though we expected nothing much from the rapper in terms of creativity in sound, a little flexibility won't have been a bad idea.

Personally I see the project as a single sound tweaked to reproduce 5 different tracks.

Music/RadioDespite Having An Astonishing Year, Naira Marley Could Fade Off In 2020 by Jamir1(op): 12:13am On Dec 17, 2019
Nigerian indigenous rapper, Naira Marley went from being despicable to becoming a pop culture influencer In 2019.

While in the UK, a younger Naira Marley formed a group called ‘No Mannaz’. He, with Max Twigz dropped a song dubbed ‘Marry Juana’. In the song, he used the pseudo ‘Marry Juana’ to pass a sublime intimation of a lady (Marijuana), how he wants to marry her so he can get higher.

Then on his verses, he spoke about gang life, shooting guns, and radical sex like; ‘if you don’t bang guns you’re a liar, you don’t bang chicks, you’re also a liar’.

On returning to Nigeria, he made a FIFA World Cup theme song, to gesture a support for Super Eagles, featuring his friend Lil Kesh, and Olamide. The song was big enough to land him an endorsement from a beverage company with a remix with Simi and Falz in it.

The commercial appeal, and interest the song shoveled, took him from an unknown artiste to a mainstream act. The single put him on several songs, bagging different features. This helped him settle quickly in his new prism, as a recognized artiste in the mainstream media.

Months later, he teamed up with Zlatan Ibile to dish out one of the most controversial yet commercial songs in Nigeria's music industry. The 2019 single 'Am I A Yahoo Boy' doubled his fame after being detained and charged by EFCC for economic crimes.

This was it for Naira Marley. He rose from a young black kid struggling in UK to a global star. His surprising and famous performance on Starboy Fest at the 02 London was a confirmation of his global reckoning.

Despite his 2019 successes and the outrageous numbers he has gathered this year, Naira Marley could fade out in 2020.

The rapper has since popping out, stuck to a singular sound. His gummy relationship with Rexxie has been one of the reasons why his sounds has been the same. Naira Marley is too rigid and has shown no room for innovation and flexibility in his style of music.

We witnessed how the seasonality of commercial music took away the fame from Lil Kesh, Terry G, etc. This could be the case for Naira Marley in 2020.
