Following the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to name a successor for the position of a new Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has remained in office.

The incumbent IGP, Mohammed Adamu, was expected to leave office on Monday, having attained the statutory retirement age.

However, Adamu was in office till past 6 pm on Monday and attended to a large number of visitors. He also did not hand over to any senior officer as expected.

But, speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said he is not aware of the imminent announcement of a new police chief.

A school teacher, Mr Yemi Ogayemi, on Friday dragged his wife, Fumi, before a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, over alleged attempt to kill herself.

The petitioner, who resides in Jikwoyi said this in the divorce suit filed against his wife before the court.

“I can’t continue to live under the same roof with this woman, she wants to kill me.

“There was a little misunderstanding between us, she ran to the kitchen and picked up a knife to stab me, luckily I escaped.

The Benue Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, on Wednesday revealed that nine aides of Gov. Samuel Ortom had tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Abounu, who made the disclosure in Makurdi during a press conference, said despite the number of aides that tested positive for the virus, all government activities were going on smoothly.

Ortom had through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase, announced that his latest COVID-19 test result had returned positive.

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS has disclosed that the reduction in the duties payable on vehicles and tractors from 35 to about 10 per cent may become operational from next week.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali, made this known while addressing Journalists in Abuja, he added that the management of the service was expecting an official communication from the finance ministry on the matter any moment from now.

He said the vehicle tariff reduction, as contained in the 2020 Finance Act, was initiated by the NCS to ease the cost of transportation in Nigeria.

“We are the proponents of the new tariff. I’ve been torn apart by many people criticizing it, saying I used my connection to get it done. But it is in the overall interest of Nigeria.

Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho has refuted the contents contained in a write-up by Senator Babafemi Ojudu titled, “Sunday Igboho that I knew”.

Ojudu had in the write up revealed how he and a National Leader of the All Progressives Congres, APC Bola Ahmed Tinubu were able to negotiate a deal with IGBOHO to stop him from fomenting trouble in the run-up to the governorship election rerun in a number of polling units in the election between Segun Oni of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and Dr Kayode Fayemi of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in 2009.

However, Igboho while speaking with the Press on Tuesday morning on a Facebook Live programme anchored by the BBC and monitored by The Matrix said he has never met Ojudu not to talk of negotiating any deal with him.

The Federal Government is planning to foot the cost of N766 billion for vaccination against Coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2021 and 2022 in the supplementary budget.

Consequently, the Secretary to the Government of the Federal (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, has directed the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, to include the money in the Supplementary Budget to be forwarded to the National Assembly.

The SGF’s directive was based on an earlier letter from the State House with reference No. PRES/18/SGF/603 dated January 14, 2021, which contained the president’s approval of the sum. Read the full story here:

The National President of MBF, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, made this known in a statement in Abuja.

“We are worried at the turn of events in the South-West and the order issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo aka Igboho, over his alleged role in the violence that took place at the weekend in Oyo state.

We call on the Federal Government, especially the Police, to desist from escalating the crisis. What the Presidency and the Police ought to do now is to assist various states to flush out these criminals.

Arresting Igboho at this moment can only escalate the growing tension into a raging fury that may further lead to dreadful uncertainties for our nation’s future.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) revealed that it is important to douse the anxiety amongst the people over how the government will be deploying the initial few quantities of vaccines.

However, the Executive Director of the NPHCDA, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, in an earlier interview, said the fears that the vaccines would be diverted by politicians are unfounded.

“NPHCDA will be entrusted with the vaccines for all Nigerians. Any fear that the vaccines would be diverted by politicians is unfounded. We will prioritise our health workers, strategic country leadership, the elderly, those with other underlying health conditions.

The Nigerian government has intensified its fight against insecurity in the land with the acquisition of 23 new aircraft which are mainly fighter aircraft, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has disclosed.

It said 18 more aircraft, including the 12 Tucano fighter jets are expected to be delivered by the United States this year.

The NAF also said it is set to ramp up its partnership with Hungary in the areas of fighter pilot training, operation, and maintenance of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) cameras as well as other important areas of competence.

Google has threatened to disable its search engine in Australia if a new law forcing it to pay local publishers for news is passed, leading to a standoff with prime minister Scott Morrison.

Australia is introducing a first of a kind law which would require tech companies like Google and Facebook to pay for the news content local publishers and broadcasters create. If the law is passed, the companies will have to negotiate payments with creators to be able to show news on their platform, including in search results or news feeds.  If they cannot strike a deal, a government-appointed arbitrator will decide the price.
