Roma icon Daniele De Rossi has decided to retire from football, according to Sky in Italy. The 35-year-old played his last game for the Serie A club in June but claimed he wanted to carry on playing, with Fiorentina, AC Milan and Boca Juniors manifesting their interest in signing him on a free transfer over the past month. However, after a period of reflection while on holiday, Sky in Italy say De Rossi has decided to hang up his boots and kick off his career in management, following in the footsteps of his father Alberto who is coaching the Roma youth team. It is thought that the now-former midfielder was not keen on joining another club after 18 seasons with Roma. When the club announced in May that he would be leaving, De Rossi told rioting fans outside of their Trigoria training centre that he would have retired should that have been their wish. De Rossi passed on his captaining duties to fellow Roman Alessandro Florenzi following his departure from the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma are interested in Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld, according to Sky in Italy. The Serie A club want to sign two new defenders this summer – the Atalanta player Gianluca Mancini and one of either Alderweireld or Real Betis’s Marc Bartra. Spurs are yet to receive a formal offer for the Belgium international, who is available for £25m until the expiry of a clause in his contract later this month. His team-mates expect him to be on the pre-season trip to Asia, which begins with a clash against Juventus in Singapore on July 21

Tottenham and Real Madrid are in talks over Dani Ceballos, report Sky sources. The player would prefer a loan move because he doesn’t want to leave Madrid permanently. A permanent deal is complicated due to the above, but also high release clause and the fact Ceballos has four years remaining on deal.

Both players have been linked with departures from the Spanish capital, but they look set to remain with Zinedine Zidane's squad for the time being Gareth Bale and Isco have both been included in the Real Madrid squad for the club’s pre-season training retreat in Montreal, Canada, despite being linked with moves away this summer. The pair were included on a list published by the club’s official website , with coach Zinedine Zidane naming them as part of a 29-man list that will work towards their first friendly outing in Houston on July 21. Spain international Isco has been discussed as a potential target for Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United and Manchester City, and he is one of several players Madrid are willing to offload . Though Isco featured more prominently following Zidane's return to the dugout after being frozen out under the coach's predecessor Santiago Solari, Madrid are still prepared to move him on before the transfer window closes. Meanwhile, Wales international winger Bale has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Manchester United, with his representative Jonathan Barnett stating there is no prospect of him leaving the Santiago Bernabeu on loan . Reports have also suggested that an unnamed Chinese side have offered to double the former Tottenham star's salary but would not be willing to pay Real a transfer fee. "A loan move is not going to happen," his agent Barnett told Sky Sports recently. "I don't think he wants to go out on loan. "He's got a lovely life and home in Spain. I think it would take something exceptional for him to leave and loans are not on the menu.” Following a summer outlay in excess of €300 million (£270m/$336m) in signing the likes of Eden Hazard, Eder Militao, Luka Jovic, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo, Madrid are looking to raise funds and reduce the size of the squad. However, the inclusion of Isco and Bale in the squad for the start of pre-season suggests that a departure for either player is not imminent. One player who is not included in the squad list is James Rodriguez, who has recently been on Copa America duty with Colombia and has been heavily linked with a move to Napoli following the end of his two-year loan at Bayern Munich.

Youri Tielemans gave up the chance of a possible move to Manchester United, and told his agent he wanted to sign for Leicester City now, rather than delaying in case Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a bid for him, Sky Sports News has learned. Tieleman's agent was keen to wait, in case bigger clubs came in with an offer for the Belgian international. In particular, he wanted to see what happens with Paul Pogba at Old Trafford before committing Tielemans' future - a number of reports have suggested United were looking at the 22-year-old as a possible replacement, should Pogba leave for Juventus or Real Madrid.

The €126 million signing from Benfica is not the first Portuguese forward to play in the Spanish capital, but he insists he is creating his own path New Atletico Madrid recruit Joao Felix has paid tribute to the influence of Cristiano Ronaldo on his career as he prepares for life in the Spanish capital. Felix was speaking at his unveiling at the Wanda Metropolitano after completing his €126 million (£113m/$141m) move from Benfica. The winger declared he had sought Ronaldo's advice before making the switch and said of the current Juventus star: "As we know he is a great player, currently the best in the world and maybe the best ever. "When we were with the national team, he talked to me about Madrid a lot. "I am here to make my history, the comparisons are not that good. Cristiano is Cristiano and I want to be myself." The 19-year-old, who is reported to have snubbed Juventus and Manchester City, also told reporters: "I am very happy to be part of this project and the history of the club, I am here to help as much as possible, the team mates have received me very well." Felix also stressed he did not believe he would come under any added pressure because of the giant size of the fee or that he is seen as a direct replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who is trying to force through a move to Barcelona. "That pressure ... I disconnect, sometimes we hear good things and sometimes we do not, I just do my job to help the team," he said. "I do not pay attention to that." He also spoke of his desire to return to play Benfica in the Champions League. "I would like to come back home, against my team mates, who have given me the opportunity to be here. "I will always thank everyone for the way they have treated me. It's not easy to leave Portugal, leave my house. Everyone has wished me luck, I'll always be a fan."

The 16-year-old will become the Reds' second new acquisition of the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp bolsters his squad with young talent Liverpool are set to complete the signing of teenage forward Harvey Elliott from Fulham. The Reds have beaten a host of clubs, including Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, to the signing of the talented 16-year-old. Surrey-born Elliott became the youngest player in Premier League history when appearing as a substitute for Fulham against Wolves in May, aged just 16 years and 30 days. He made his senior debut for the Cottagers last September in the Carabao Cup against Millwall, aged 15 years and 174 days. A number of European clubs were keen to sign the versatile England Under-17 international, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain understood to have made enquiries. Elliott, though, grew up as a Liverpool supporter and sources have told Goal he has been desperate to make the move to Merseyside. He cannot turn professional until his 17th birthday in April, but has rejected Fulham’s offer of a scholarship in order to sign with Liverpool. He is expected to complete his move this week, with the Reds agreeing a significant compensation package for the player. Fulham have been left disappointed by the situation, having made what they felt to be a substantial offer to the youngster. Elliott’s schoolboy contract at Craven Cottage expired at the end of June. He will become the second highly-rated teen to move to Merseyside this summer, following in the footsteps of Sepp van den Berg, the 17-year-old defender signed from PEC Zwolle last month. Van den Berg joined up with his new team-mates for pre-season training at Melwood on Saturday, and will play some part in the friendly at Tranmere Rovers on Thursday. Elliott, too, could be on board by then, and it will be interesting to see how quickly he makes his mark on Liverpool’s senior squad given his tender years. Speaking in May, Fulham boss Scott Parker described him as “a special talent”, while the Londoners’ captain Tom Cairney was even more gushing in his praise. “He's been a sensation since he joined in training a few months ago,” he said. “He doesn't look out of place and does some bits of magic that everyone says 'wow'. "His attitude and his belief in himself at such a young age is frightening. He's got a great football brain, an eye for goal and is a very entertaining player.” For Liverpool, it is further evidence of the club’s desire to plan for the future by adding some of Europe’s most sought-after young talent. It is not expected to be a summer of big spending at Anfield, but in Van den Berg and Elliott, Liverpool hope they have made two signings that will pay off handsomely in the long term.

The Brazil international has been rumoured to be on his way out of the Eredivisie champions this summer but insists he will remain in Amsterdam David Neres has committed his future to Ajax amid a series of reports suggesting he was set to leave the club this summer. The 22-year-old winger has been linked with Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Everton over the course of the past few months after impressing for the Dutch champions last term. But he broke off from celebration following Brazil's 3-1 Copa America final victory over Peru to tell Algemeen Dagblad : "I'm having a beer because I have something to celebrate. I have to be back at Ajax on July 28. My future is with Ajax ." Neres was used as a substiture for the Selecao during their home tournament and admitted: ""It was hard to lose my spot. I did my best, but it was not enough. "In the end I'm a part of the team and it's most important that we win. Therefore I'm still satisfied. It's great to win this prize with the national team. It's a dream for me and the other players. "Now it's time to celebrate. We had a nice party in the dressing room. We danced and after that it was time to see my family. "It was a good experience for me to be here and play with experienced players. I feel older myself and more experienced. That's good for my development." Neres enjoyed a hugely successful season in 2018-19, scoring eight goals and registering eight assists in 20 Eredivisie starts. The speedy winger also caught the eye in the Champions League during Ajax’s impressive run to the semi-finals, beating Real Madrid and Juventus before succumbing to Tottenham. He began his career with Sao Paulo and quickly earned a move to Ajax in January 2017. Since then he has made 69 appearances for the Amsterdam giants, scoring 25 goals. In March this year he received his first senior call up to the Brazil squad and made his debut against Czech Republic when he assisted two goals in a 3-1 win. Brazilian team mate Richarlison was keen for Neres to join him at Everton earlier in pre-season but it seems the youngster is set to stay with Ajax despite interest from across Europe.

What do Everton need to break the top-six stranglehold for the first time since 2016 and get back among England's top clubs? The club have already spent £22m on making Andre Gomes' loan spell at Goodison Park a permanent one, with more business expected to be done before the start of the season. But will it be enough for a team who finished in the top six five seasons out of eight up until 2014, but have not been able to break back in since?
