Crime / Ijaw Youth Council: Sponsored Terrorists Disguising As Fulani Herdsmen by jaydee12: 8:17am On Apr 28, 2016
Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) described the ongoing attacks and killings in the South East and North Central by people alleged to be herdsmen as suspicious.

It said those involved in plotting and carrying out such attacks were terrorists sponsored to disguise as Fulani herdsmen in order to kill and trigger tribal and religious clashes across the country.

Spokesman of IYC, Eric Omare, condemned the persistent attacks by terrorists disguised as Fulani herdsmen in several parts of the country.

Omare said: “We are of the view that the attacks are being carried out by terrorists who are disguising themselves as Fulani herdsmen. The traditional Fulani herdsmen have been grazing their cattle for decades in different parts of the country without such attacks until recently when the attacks became persistent with the emergence of Muhamadu Buhari as President of Nigeria.”

“We also frown at the silence by the Federal Government. We are surprised that President Buhari has vowed to deal with suspected vandals of oil facilities in the Niger Delta region like Boko Haram but has remained mute in the midst of consistent massacre of Nigerians by Fulani terrorist.”

“We believe that the attacks by the so called Fulani herdsmen are deliberate terrorist acts with religious agenda to wipe out some communities in the middle belt and southern part of the country. We, therefore, call on communities in the Niger Delta region, especially the Ijaw communities to be vigilant and watch out for these terrorists who are disguising as Fulani herdsmen.”

We also call on community and youth leaders in different Niger Delta communities to set up structures to prevent such attacks and also speedily bring such activities to the knowledge of security agencies.”

“IYC clan and community structures all over Ijaw communities in Nigeria have been directed to set up special task forces to monitor and report the activities of these murderers masquerading as Fulani herdsmen.”

Politics / 2016 BUDGET: Presidency And National Assembly Finally Reach Agreement by jaydee12: 6:47am On Apr 28, 2016
The Presidency and the National Assembly have finally resolved their trailing disagreement over the 2016 budget and President Muhammadu Buhari would sign the document in the coming days.

An agreement was reached between the Presidency and the National Assembly at a meeting between President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo and the National Assembly led by Senate President Bukola Saraki. The meeting took place on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Speaker of the House of Representations (Yakubu Dogara) previously had a private meeting with the president on the same issue. At the end of the meeting, Saraki disclosed to press present that the controversial issues about the budget had been settled and the budget would be signed and implemented in only a few days.

He said: “We just finished a meeting with the president and VP. We came to let them know some of the solutions that we found in moving the budget process forward and we are happy to say that we have agreed on the way forward and we believe that this process will be completed in matter of days rather than weeks. So, it is good news to Nigerians and all of us. We have found a way forward and in a meter of days the budget will be ready for president’s assent.”

Politics / IMF Advices Nigeria To Seek International Assistance by jaydee12: 8:48am On Apr 15, 2016
http://naijaly.com/imf-advices-nigeria-to-seek-international-assistance/

Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), says Nigeria should seek economic help from international institutions.

Speaking at the IMF conference hall in Washington DC on Thursday, Lagarde said Nigeria needs to be open-minded on foreign exchange, and swiftly approve the 2016 budget.

“Our recommendation is that Nigeria should seek help from the international institutions that can best help,” she said.

“Second, that Nigeria should be open-minded in using flexibility of the exchange rates, in order to absorb some of the shocks. We believe that this is more efficient than to have a list of products that are barred from being imported to the country.

“Third, we believe that it’s really important that budget be completed, decided and approved and we stand ready to help Nigeria, if it wants to seek our help.”

Lagarde, who was in the company of David Lipton, IMF first deputy managing director and Gerry Rice, IMF spokesperson, also called on Nigeria to diversify its economy, adding that oil prices may be low for longer.

“I believe, having visited Nigeria in January, that it is also really important that the country looks at diversifying its economy, because it cannot rely exclusively on commodity prices only, particularly oil, because it might very well stay low for longer,” she said.

“Nigeria is full of energy, smart people, and can really transform some of its activities including the agricultural sector where there is just too much by way of import, when there could be a lot of transformation in Nigeria and local consumption.”

She also spoke on the viral panama papers, calling for international cooperation, while assuring the world that IMF would be at “happy” to play a role in resolving such worldwide issues.

Lagarde reiterated that countries must reinforce their commitment to durable global growth and employ a more potent policy mix.

“A three-pronged approach with monetary, fiscal, and structural actions can work as a virtuous trinity, lifting actual and potential growth, averting recession risks, and enhancing financial stability,” she said.

Politics / 2016 Budget: Presidency & National Assembly Settles Disagreement by jaydee12: 8:23am On Apr 15, 2016

The Presidency and the National Assembly have agreed to ceasefire over the controversy surrounding exclusion of some critical infrastructural projects in the N6.06 trillion 2016 Appropriation Bill.

The truce was called after both sides sat down to series of roundtable talks between Sunday and Tuesday evening, it was gathered.

A source in one of the federal agencies told Daily Sun yesterday afternoon that “Presidency officials and the National Assembly agreed to a ceasefire on any public spat on the budget.

“They have now agreed on the grey areas to correct and what to do. They also pledged to resolve any differences before President Muhammadu Buhari returns from China.”

At the National Assembly, however, Southern senators have declared war on their northern counterparts. They have also asked President Buhari to withhold his assent on the 2016 budget if the Appropriation Committees of both chambers refuse to include the Calabar – Lagos rail project in the appropriation bill.

While Senators from the South favour inclusion of all the infrastructure projects hitherto removed, their colleagues from the North are demanding a supplementary appropriation instead.

Further investigation revealed that senators from the South-west and South-south zones met at their caucus levels on Tuesday night and resolved to resist any attempt by northern lawmakers to deny their people the viable project.

While the South-south and South-east Senators met at undisclosed locations outside the National Assembly complex, the South-west lawmakers met at the residence of Senator Gbenga Ashafa, chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport.

Some senators who attended the caucus meetings told Daily Sun that the call for the supplementary budget was an attempt to deny the south an opportunity to enjoy a viable rail project.

Senator Adesoji Akanbi confirmed the meeting took place and said the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the South-west were solidly behind the position of Ashafa, over the issue.

He said the signing of the budget without the inclusion of the N60 billion Calabar-Lagos rail project would not be in the interest of the people of the South-West.

A senator from the South-South geopolitical zone, who pleaded not to be named, said the Calabar – Lagos rail project was as important to the southerners just as the Kano rail project is as important to the northerners.

Meanwhile, after a tense Executive Session, the House of Representatives announced it will re-examine the controversial 2016 budget.

The decision was announced by Speaker Yakubu Dogara who presided over plenary in a complete u-turn from it’s earlier position that the only option left for President Muhammadu Buhari was to send in a supplementary budget to cover omitted details.

The Speaker said the House resolved to take another look at the budget owing to the nation’s struggling economy and its negative effects on millions of people.

“We have done this in the overall national interest and to ensure that we have a workable budget that will be immediately implementable. So, this are reasons why we have taken this decision,” Dogara said.

The new position of the House is contrary to that of the Senate which stated on Tuesday that it had foreclosed discussions on the budget.

Daily Sun gathered that the executive session, which lasted for two hours, saw lawmakers from both the ruling APC and the major opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) express displeasure over the controversy surrounding the budget and the manner the House Appropriations Committee, headed by Abdulmumin Jibrin handled the confusion over the Lagos-Calabar rail project.

Chiefly, the lawmakers accused Jibrin of making provocative statements on the budget that could have pitched the House against the president.

It was equally gathered from sources at the session, that it took the Dogara a lot of tact to save Jibrin from losing his position. This is even as days before yesterday’s plenary there had been a ground swell of opinion that the chairman of the Appropriations Committee be asked to step aside.

Politics / Nigeria’s Fuel Scarcity Not Getting Better by jaydee12: 8:06pm On Apr 14, 2016
Nigeria is no stranger to fuel shortages but it seems things are worse than ever. Thousands of people have been forced to sleep outside filling stations in hopes of getting petrol by the morning, while others have been forced abandon their cars at home and go about their daily routine by commercial transportation system. However, the cost of commercial transportation (bus, bikes and keke) have increased by 2 to 3 times in many parts of the country due to the increased cost of petrol. Many other people are forced to walk because they cannot afford the cost of commercial transportation.

Sports / Chelsea Offers £64m For Real Madrid Star, Sergio Ramos by jaydee12: 6:21pm On Apr 14, 2016
Chelsea offers 64 million pounds for Real Madrid star, Sergio Ramos.

The Spaniard has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid in the summer. Despite his contract running until 2020, reports emerged last month claiming Ramos had handed in a transfer request.Reports indicated that Ramos, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, had expressed a desire for a move and had discussed it with Madrid president Florentino Perez. His uncertainty in Spain, coupled with his impressive displays this season, has prompted Chelsea and Manchester United to keep tabs on him.United, who are long term admirers of Ramos, have been tipped to go after him in the summer, while the Blues are also keen on his services.
Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly identified the 30-year-old as an ideal candidate to suit his 3-4-3 strategy.

And it looks like the Blues are moving ahead of the Red Devils in the race to his signature with Spanish publication Don Balon claiming the west London outfit have tabled a £64m offer.Ramos helped Madrid book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League last night as Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in their 3-0 win over Wolfsburg.
