Mikel Obi, Super Eagles captain, has hinted that the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt might be his last outing for Nigeria.

Mikel, who is the most experienced players in the team, made his senior debut for Nigeria in 2006, had threw up doubt about his future in the national team after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

A 24-year-old applicant, Samson Ojowuro, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing N68,700 to play Bet Naija game. 

The defendant, who resides at Ayobo Road, by Oja Bus Stop in Ipaja Lagos, was arraigned on a count charge of stealing, but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer and human rights activist, has indicated that he would institute legal action against President Muhammadu Buhari over the continuation of work by his personal aides despite the expiration of their appointments.

Effiong implied that he would approach the Federal High Court to interpret Sections 151 and 171 of the 1999 Constitution, which stipulates the terms of appointments of aides of the president.

The number of Nigerians who were poor increased during the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari, The Economist, a London-based global finance publication, has claimed.

Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, has said payment of  the N30,000 new minimum wage will begin from April 18, 2019, the day it was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Federal Government had on May 14, 2019 set up a committee to negotiate the consequential adjustment in salaries arising from the minimum wage.

The police in Lagos State have arrested two suspected cultists, Balogun Oluwadamilare, 24 and Badmus Idris, 23, at the matriculation ceremony at Yaba College of Technology.

The Command’ Spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement that the suspects were arrested with one Beretta pistol, four live ammunition and three expended cartridges.

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc on Saturday said that it was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over listing of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has said that the Commission has no plan going after musicians.

The nation’s electricity generation plunged to 2,616.7 megawatts on Tuesday, a day after heavy rainfall in Lagos damaged some power facilities and worsened supply in parts of the state.

Total power generation declined to 3,978.5MW as of 6.00am on Monday from 4,297MW on Sunday, according to data from the Nigeria Electricity System Operator, an arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

Darius Ishaku, Governor of Taraba State, has said that governors in the country are helpless in the area of insecurity, saying the establishment of state police was the way to go.

More than 30,000 children between the age of 0-14 years in primary and junior secondary schools ‎are suffering from various eye diseases in Jigawa state.

Dr Abdullahi Idris, an eye specialist and head of eye clinic at Rasheed Shekoni Specialist hospital in Dutse, disclosed this during a round table meeting between the ministry of health official, media and the team from the Health and Development Support Programme said out of the over six million people in Jigawa state about 2.4 million are children and estimate magnitude/burden 30,000 has one or another eye diseases.

The runners-up at the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea, have been disqualified from the 2019 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Guinea’s disqualification was confirmed following the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation of their removal, after accepting a protest by Senegal against two of their players for age fraud.
