There were unconfirmed reports yesterday (14.7.10) at about 8PM, that the brother or cousin (there is no cousin niece or nephew in african society,its either a brother or sister designation) was shot somewhere in Benin City yesternite, which prompted the deputy governor Pius Odubu, to come over to the university of benin teaching hospital to check on him.
Due to the on going work-to-rule action by health workers in the state as aresult of the non-implementation of the new salary scale for health workers,which has been implemented in the federal institutions, the hospital has been host to an increased number of patients,hence the usual facilities are being overstretched;his brother (cousin) was kept lying on the floor,(the beds all occupied),in the emergency room.He should have known this,but he came to the emergency hall wantin -to"show himself"-shouting and asking why his relative should be on the floor.
Ever since he has been the deputy governor, no good thing has happened to the state health facilities, the major hospital in the capital city is a den of thieves where you have to 'grease palms', even to be attended to, its so bad, that the security men at the central hospital have their own patients,doctors dont treat patients when they come, instead the patients are directed to their private clinics, if they want medi-care,the nurses must be tipped before the attend to patients,revenue is generated, but channeled to private pockets, this has gone on for so long, him and his boss-Commrade Adams Oshiomhole-have not deemed it neccessary to sanitize the health sector in the state;and now the strike action embarked upon has crippled the system, thus stretching the facilities of the private health institutions in the city and other parts of the state.
