Getting Everything You Need By Favour

I don't know if you are presently in the state I was several years ago. I entered each new year with great expectations, hoping and praying that this year will be my BIG BREAK . But as the months roll by, my hope begin to gradually Dwain and drain away and suddenly it is December and my greatest goal has not been achieved.

That thing am expecting did not happen. Then the sermons in every church service now switch to " The God of the eleventh hour" My God can still do a miracle within the few days remaining for the year to run to an end.

Again? I can't believe that nothing special happened to me all through the year.
Now it's a new year again, the same old pattern is about to repeat itself all over again. Starting the year with great enthusiasm and expection without nothing to show at the end of the year.

IF 2019 CONTINUES FOR YOU THE SAME WAY, THEN IT IS YOUR FAULT.

There was a day that my life changed. There was something I came across and since that day, each year has become very rewarding and my achievements are mind blowing.

What is a "CITY"?
The very first time I read in the Bible that "the Labour of fools weary them, for they do not know how to go to the city" this saying baffled me alot because in the orient, every city had great walls built to surround and protect it; which makes the city to have a central gateway serving as an entrance into the city. And everyone will know where the gate is, it is not hidden. So why will you now tell me that someone does not know how to enter the city. It simply means that there is a spiritual dimension to that scripture. There is a revelation in it, a mystery that needs to be unveiled. So I began to think and dig deep.

After several months of spiritual journey and growth, puhf!!!... My spiritual eyes got opened and since then I began to get unusual insight into the word city.

On this fateful day, I attended an evening service at the potters house of glory, and as I was stepping out of the glass house, I heard the phrase " WISDOM FOR THE CITY " and instantly I saw a picture of the patriarch father Abraham as he raised his head to look towards Sodom after the destruction of the city, and I asked myself that "I thought the city was destroyed by the angels, how come the city still exists,"? Because the first city that existed was the garden of Eden and when the citizens were expelled from the city, the city desist from existing, such that, today when people go on pilgrimage to Jerusalem they don't visit the garden of Eden because no one knows the location anymore. So since it happened that in the first city, when the citizens were evacuated from the city, the city does not exist anymore, I was thinking the same would be the case with Sodom and Gomorrah.

It was stated that the city was destroyed, but today when people go to Jerusalem, they do visit Sodom and Gomorrah.
It suddenly dawned on me that the location is not the city. "people are the city". So when the angels destroyed the people, Bible said "the city was destroyed".

Now if you bring this analogy to modern Palance, the word "city" is a polysemantic word, meaning; it is a word with several meanings.
The word "city" could mean :
1. A person
2. A people
3. A Business
4. A career
5. A sector of the economy
6. A location.

And there are five things you can do to a city.
1. You can build a city
2. Enter a city
3. Dominate a city
4. Conquer a city
5. Destroy a city
While there are innumerable things that you can do in a city

figuratively, this means, you can build a person, enter a person, dominate a person, conquer a person or destroy a person. This same concept apples to a business, career, sector of the economy or location.
I discovered that virtually everything that applies to a city can be applied to a business, person, career or sector of the economy.
From the next article we will begin to examine how to deduce Wisdom from the attributes of a city and apply it to our lives, businesses, careers. Etc.

1. Learn English yourself
To build a positive attitude towards learning, and towards English as a language, the best place to start is with yourself. If you send your child to an English class, why not join one too? Learning English together is a great way to spend time with your kids and create a positive attitude towards learning and speaking another language.
The British Council recently polled 2,000 adults from the UK and found that 40 per cent of them were nervous about speaking in a foreign language when on holiday. This sort of anxiety – often accompanied by negative memories of learning another language at school – can easily rub off on your little ones.
By learning English yourself, you can show your kids that ‘having a go’ and making a mistake is better than only speaking when you have the perfect sentence prepared.

2. Play in English
Children will naturally learn everything around them without any adult intervention. They do this through playful experimentation and making many mistakes along the way. To help your child get ahead with English learning, get them to play in the language.
At home, try playing dress-up games, hide-and-seek and other popular games, in English. In other words, get them to learn English in the same way they are learning their first language.

3. Read bedtime storybooks in English
It’s easy to get storybooks in any language now, especially online or by swapping books with other parents. Very young children won’t question the language that you are reading to them in – they're more concerned about the ritual of bedtime stories. This provides a great opportunity to sneak in some extra English time in a memorable way.
We all remember our favourite books from when we were little, and in some cases, we can still remember phrases from books we haven’t seen or read in years. Stories provide powerful language-learning opportunities, so we should use them.
Reading illustrated storybooks to your child is a great way to develop language, as every page is supported by visual clues. The language is simplified, repetitive, and introduces features such as rhyme. It widens vocabulary and encourages children to ask questions about character and plot.
A great alternative is to use audio books or online stories if you are less confident about reading out loud to your child in English.

4. Tune in to a UK radio station and leave it on in the background
There is a huge difference between being exposed to a language and learning a language. Traditionally, when we think about learning a language, we think of our grammar classes in school, repeating verbs and turning the pages in a textbook. However, early-years learning should begin with exposure to the sounds and rhythm of another language instead of explicit instruction.
As children learn their first language, they go through an incredible process in the brain of listening to everything around them, piecing together the information, and then using it. A child doesn’t imitate the word ‘teddy’ the first time she hears it, but instead will have heard this word said numerous times, by many different people, before attempting the word themselves.
The radio offers the chance to hear another language spoken by lots of different speakers with various accents. All you have to do is switch it on while you make dinner.

5. Experiment with sound
In some cases, if we are not exposed to certain information at an early age – for example, specific sounds of a foreign language like the rolling 'r' in Italian or Spanish – then it can be really difficult to identify them and learn to use them like a native speaker at a later age. That's why exposure to the sounds from a young age is crucial to mastering the language later on.
This is the reason why language institutions worldwide have introduced the phonics programmes that has become increasingly popular in the British education system over the last ten years. Phonics programmes were originally designed to support reading and writing through practising sounds and identifying the symbol (letters) that go with it. Children then start to blend sounds to make words and this practice becomes the foundation for reading confidently and writing later on.
We can learn a lot about helping children develop sounds, which may be different to the child’s first language, through phonics activities based on a lot of repetition. Children’s TV shows like Sesame Street have included such activities for nearly 46 years: ‘Today’s letter is the letter B – bat, ball, boy, beach’.
You can easily replicate activities like this at home. Sound out new words for children so they can hear the individual sounds: b-a-t, bat. Go on a treasure hunt and look for things beginning with ‘b’. Sound out simple three-letter words with fridge magnets and then change initial or ending letters, so bat becomes cat, sat or mat. Play hopscotch with letters instead of numbers in the boxes. Practise tongue twisters with children who already understand some English. Lastly, try making letters out of different materials such as pipe cleaners or plasticine and the practising sounds so they can recognise the form of the letter before they start to write.

6. Get crafty!
Kids love any opportunity to get messy; they love sticking, glueing, cutting, painting and baking things. So, encourage it ... in English. The activity doesn't have to be about English, but should instead use English to complete the task or activity:
‘Could you pass me the glue, please?’;
‘Thank you’
‘Why don’t you paint a picture?’
‘Can you help me tidy up?’
These sorts of phrases are the most helpful language you can introduce to your child. If you don’t speak a lot of English yourself, you could simply follow audio or written recipe instructions as you bake cupcakes together. In the process, you are using everyday English that teachers use in the classroom. You are therefore preparing them for the sort of thing they will hear at school.

7. Sing songs together (or get YouTube to help if you can’t sing)
After a few listens to a song or nursery rhyme, children quickly start to hum, sing along to the chorus and eventually put together more and more words. Music and rhyme help children to use full sentences, intonation, pitch, and rhythm, as well as simply building confidence, in a way that we can’t achieve if we were trying to explicitly teach these language features.
We can also introduce children to quite difficult language structures through song. Take, for example, ‘If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands’. It includes a really complex grammatical structure that a young child would find too challenging to learn from being taught. The song, on the other hand, does everything for us with no pressure, and provides an easily recognisable context for children.
Perhaps later, in their early teens, when children begin to learn more about grammar, these songs will come back to them and help them feel more confident about the structures being taught.

8. Make sure the Wii or PlayStation is set to use English
Every bit of technology we own comes with language options and, as we have seen, one of the main ways of developing language is through repetition. By using English as the operational language for your TV, iPad, laptop or telephone, each time your child sees you accessing something or tries to herself, she will see English in a natural context.
Nowadays, before children learn to read and write, they are often confident users of iPads or their parents’ phones. Introducing language such as 'password', 'log-on', 'choose', 'press' or 'game over' can be a useful starting point.

9. Ask English-speaking friends over
All of us, no matter our age, will use another language when we see a practical use for it. Growing up in a bilingual family, I knew that I had to at least try to use Italian with my aunts and uncles, who didn't understand any English. However, with my Italian mother and grandmother, I continued to speak in English. With them I didn't need to speak Italian to be understood.
I see the same situation now with my friend’s two young children, who always speak to me in English, even though their first language is Spanish. (From the start, we have pretended that I don’t understand their Spanish). Yet they only speak Spanish to my Scottish friend as they know she understands.
So why not invite your English-speaking friends over for dinner? Your children will really benefit.

10. Relax
Don't worry if your child makes mistakes or doesn't start speaking in English immediately. The brain needs to go through a process of decoding and pattern-finding during the language-learning process. Language production usually starts after a long period of listening and thinking.
There is some evidence to suggest that children who are exposed to a lot of different languages at once may need a little more time to put all the information into place. So perhaps in school a child learning new information in a third or possibly fourth language may seem to be a little behind a child who is handling the same new information in their first and only language.

HOW TO IMPROVE ON YOUR DICTION, PRONUNCIATION AND FLUENCY IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE (RAIN SPEECH INTERNATIONAL)



Diction is an act of speaking in a distinctive way, the choice of picking words, pronouncing correctly, and the level of articulation. Speaking in the right diction and pronouncing each word according to its sound helps in improving your diction.


1. Don’t speak local dialect more than English

There is every tendency that if you speak too much of your local dialect and less of English language, it is necessary that the first language be spoken often and also when pronouncing certain words that are dialect based, if care is not taken, the way we pronounce our dialect based words are the same way we will transfer it to the words that are of English background. So it is necessary we speak less of our dialect and try to change words you are used to pronouncing in your dialect to English.


2. Focus on what you speak and don’t be distracted

Most times people tend to make jest of others that pronounce words better than they do or in a different way or sound differently from the normal tradition. So whoever wants to work on his diction should not be bothered about what people say, as they would make jest or laugh at you but if you must attain what you want, you should not consider what they say rather what is right.

3. Constantly use a pronouncing dictionary

It is important to know that when you are conversant with your dictionary, you can always look up words, get the meaning and pronunciation. If you are able to use it frequently or check up words apart from the fact that it will build the level of your lexicon, it will also help to pronounce words correctly with the transcription given against each word.


The pronouncing dictionary is a type of dictionary that helps the user pronounce given words. So, the English pronouncing dictionary is one that helps the way you pronounce words correctly with the correct stress pattern. Certain words in Nigeria are not pronounced correctly but with a pronouncing dictionary you will be able to tell where the stress is placed.

4. Work on your rise and fall intonation


The intonation is also another part that helps you to correctly say words the way they should be. A question should fall at the beginning and rise at the end. For instance:

Are you going?
Fall rise
Working on your intonation doesn’t only help you to be a better speaker but helps to also convey your message correctly.

5. Working on your /ei/ sounds

This has to do with working with words usually called ‘a’ as Nigerians when it should be /ei/. Getting good intonation starts from working on your basic /ei/ sounds. The sound is paramount because that is one of the easiest ways a person will know if your diction is improved or not. For starters, pronounce words that end with ‘ay’ with the /ei/ sound. Play /pleI/, Stay /steI/, Day /deI/ e.t.c.

6. Never copy others

Never copy others in word pronunciation; sometimes individuals may have difficulty in pronunciations. Other people ignorantly pronounce the ‘ph’ in the word ‘shepherd’, as /f/ instead of /p/. That an individual speaks with a foreign diction or pronounces words in a different way does not necessarily mean that the person is correct. You may not need to copy others and if need be, then, you need to confirm from your dictionary first to be sure you are copying the right pronunciation.


7. Practice what you’ve learnt

This is very important. Note that if you learn something and don’t use it, there is every tendency of forgetting or not even knowing it anymore. Whatever you’ve learnt put it into practice. When you do, it will stick or become a part of your sub-conscious mind that even when you are woken up at the middle of the night, you would always speak correctly. Continuous practice they say makes perfect.

Elocution is the study of formal speaking in pronunciation, grammar, style, and tone.



In Western classical rhetoric, elocution was one of the five core disciplines of pronunciation, which was the art of delivering speeches. Orators were trained not only on proper diction, but on the proper use of gestures, stance, and dress. (Another area of rhetoric, elocutio, was unrelated to elocution and, instead, concerned the style of writing proper to discourse.)

Elocution emerged as a formal discipline during the eighteenth century. One of its important figures was Thomas Sheridan, actor and father of Richard Brinsley Sheridan. Thomas Sheridan's lectures on elocution, collected in Lectures on Elocution (1762) and his Lectures on Reading (1775), provided directions for marking and reading aloud passages from literature. Another actor, John Walker, published his two-volume Elements of Elocution in 1781, which provided detailed instruction on voice control, gestures, pronunciation, and emphasis.

With the publication of these works and similar ones, elocution gained wider public interest. While training on proper speaking had been an important part of private education for many centuries, the rise in the nineteenth century of a middle class in Western countries (and the corresponding rise of public education) led to great interest in the teaching of elocution, and it became a staple of the school curriculum. American students of elocution drew selections from what were popularly deemed "Speakers." By the end of the century, several Speaker texts circulated throughout the United States, including McGuffey's New Juvenile Speaker, the Manual of Elocution and Reading, the Star Speaker, and the popular Delsarte Speaker. Some of these texts even included pictorial depictions of body movements and gestures to augment written descriptions.

1. Is public speaking an art or a skill?

Here’s some things you need to know about public speaking that I’ve learned over the course of many years…

– Focus On The Outcome: Be positive and put your attention on your desired outcome for your talk. Don’t focus on the technical details of your talk, stay focused on the goal.

– Fear Is A Good Thing: Some speakers say the fear never goes away. I disagree. When you’re prepared and know your subject inside and out your fear decreases dramatically. But don’t let fear stop you. Fear is not bad. Fear is a sign that your heart is getting ready to go.

– Be Prepared: You can be confident if you’re prepared. You’ll be ready for anything that comes up and your talk will be far more effective when you’re properly prepared.

– Don’t Memorize Your Talk: Word for word memorization of your talk is a recipe for disaster. It takes the emotion out of it. Speech should come from the heart, not the memory.

For those of us who grew up in Africa most especially Nigeria, when you try to stand out in anything you do, people have axioms and sayings that tend to pull you back to the crowd. Words like, "your own too much", "na only you?" etc.
