An officer serving at the Dubai Police Academy stood trial in the Court of First Instance on Monday on the charge of stealing two mobile phones of academy trainees.

The 21-year-old Emirati defendant allegedly stole the belongings of the two trainees after opening their cars with keys he had taken from their lockers when they were attending training sessions.

A police lieutenant said that in March, it was learnt that one of the stolen phones was sold to a shop in Sharjah. The shopkeeper showed the police a passport copy of the person who had sold the phone to him and it turned out to be of the defendant.

The complainants identified him as a trainer in the academy.

When interrogated, the accused admitted that he stole cash and two smart phones of two trainees in January when they were in training sessions after opening their cars with the keys which he deposited back in their lockers later.

The Bangladeshi shopkeeper said that the accused sold him the two phones for Dh900 and Dh1,100.

An Emirati academy trainee, aged 19, said he lost a smart phone, a watch, Dh1,000 and a flash memory. He said he had parked his car in the parking lot for trainees at the academy when his belongings were lost.

Another Emirati trainee, also 19, said he found his smart phone missing when he returned to his car five days after he had parked it in the parking lot at the academy.
