The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the appointment of coordinators for North-East states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Naija News reports that the appointees were revealed in a press release by the ruling party on Monday evening. The press release contained names and numbers of appointed coordinators for the North-central states that will be saddled with the responsibilities, including mobilizations of electorates for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima presidential ticket as the party prepares for the 2023 general elections. See the names of the state coordinators for the North-East Geopolitical Zone below: Naija News reports that the party had earlier announced coordinators for the South-West and North-West zones. 2023: We Didn’t Endorse Atiku – Anambra Traditional Rulers Some traditional rulers from the Idemili North and South Local Government Areas (LGA) of the Anambra state on Monday, debunked rumours that they endorsed the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Atiku, for the 2023 general election. According to the Anambra monarchs, speculation that they endorsed Atiku was not true, adding that it is a mix-up. Naija News reports that the traditional rulers, in a statement signed by the chairman of their forum, Igwe Chuma Agbala, and the vice chairman, Igwe Nick Obi, alleged that they had only attended a meeting in Ogidi called by one of their illustrious sons Dr Obiora Okonkwo. The latter told them about his new position in the PDP and nothing more, the traditional rulers claimed. The statement disclosed that the trending reports that the traditional rulers endorsed Atiku during their quarterly meeting were not true, so it was surprising to see twisted reports of the meeting’s account. The monarchs, who advanced that the rumours have embarrassed them, said, “The publication or information circulating in the news media of the purported endorsement of a PDP Presidential candidate is not true. “The fact is that the Idemili North and South Traditional Rulers Forum held its quarterly meeting at the Idemili North Local Government Headquarters, Ogidi where Chief Obiora Okonkwo came and said that he was appointed as one of the PDP Anambra State coordinators. “That was it, and there was nothing like the endorsement of any political party or her flag bearer. We, the traditional Rulers of Idemili North and South, do not indulge in partisan politics and as such, would not dump or endorse or move to endorse any political party’s candidate. We are royal fathers and hence are fathers to all,” the traditional rulers said.

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that the police in Ondo State have arraigned a 55-year-old woman, Cecilia Idowu, before an Akure Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly killing her tenant, Stephen Haruna, after which she dumped his corpse inside the well. Police investigators are still unravelling the motive behind the killing. The victim reportedly died after he drank palm oil given to him by the suspect at night. Witnesses said the landlady was arrested on the day she committed the crime after the victim’s corpse was found inside the well in front of her house. The incident occurred at Oke-Igbala Street at Oge area, Okeagbe, Akoko. Cecilia was arraigned on two counts charges of conspiracy and murder but she pleaded not guilty to the charges. Police prosecutor, Simon Wada, informed the court that the suspect conspired with others at large to commit the offence Wada stated that palm oil the victim drank resulted to his death adding that the suspect invited some persons to assist her dumped the corpse. “My Lord, the woman and the deceased were the only occupants of the house and she confessed to seeing him when he returned home by 10:00pm. A calabash filled with palm oil was found in the woman’s apartment,” Wada told the court. He said the offence contravened Section 516 and 316 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2022 Wada urged the court to remand the suspect at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). But lawyer to the suspect, A. Adedire, requested for an adjournment to enable him file a counter affidavit. Presiding Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, adjourned the case to October 31 for ruling on the remand application. 1 Share

A court has permitted the Action Alliance (AA) to open its certificate forgery allegations suit against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu. Hearing in the matter could not go on as scheduled following an application by one Adekunle Omo-Aje and his group claiming leadership of the AA party and also insisting they did not engage any legal practitioner to institute the suit against Tinubu. Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja had in August, fixed October 12 for commencement of hearing shortly after ordering parties to exchange their briefs of arguments in the case. However, at the next adjourned date, Omo-Aje and his faction had asked to be joined as a defendant in the suit filed by the AA. But after listening to arguments in support and against the joinder application, the court declined to grant the request. Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in his ruling, dismissed the joinder application on the grounds that conditions precedent for such joinder to be granted were not placed before the court. Amongst others, Justice Egwuatu held that Omo-Aje did not establish his claim as National Chairman of the AA and also did not disclose how his interest would be jeopardized if not joined as defendant in the suit. Justice Egwuatu, while dismissing the joinder request, directed the plaintiff to open its case of certificate forgery allegations against Tinubu on Friday November 4, 2022. The judge specifically ordered that witnesses in the suit must be brought before the court to enable it determine the suit within the time stipulated by law. AA had on June 21, approached the court for an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from including the name of the APC in the ballot of the 2023 presidential election. The party equally asked the court for another order restraining the electoral umpire from accepting the name of Tinubu as the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming presidential election. The plaintiff in the Writ of Summon marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/954/2022, predicated its request on the claim that both the APC and its presidential candidate, Tinubu, are not qualified to participate in the 2023 presidential election on alleged forgery committed by Tinubu in 1999. While the AA is the sole plaintiff, INEC, APC and Tinubu are the first, second and third defendants respectively.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has claimed that the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu, does not want to resign because he wants to continue overseeing the party’s finances. Wike stated this over the weekend at a media parley in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. The Governor and his associates have been calling for Ayu to resign, insisting that it is against PDP’s constitution for the national chairman and the presidential candidate to come from the same zone. Ayu is from Benue (North Central), while the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, hails from Adamawa (North East). Wike had also accused the PDP national chairman of being “very corrupt” and not being accountable for the money that enters the party’s coffers. “Why does he not want to resign? He is hoping that Nigerians will donate money to the party so he will superintendent over that money. He has already finished the one of N11 billion from the party’s primaries. Account for it, he says it is in the account. Show the public the account. Print out the statement of account of PDP and let the world see how the N11 billion was expended. “And this is the party that all of us have laboured to take over power from the ruling party that we said has done badly. And then the national chairman will open his mouth to talk about stopping contestants. “Ayu shouldn’t say so. He tried it in Rivers state. He came to manipulate and try to put some gubernatorial aspirants, but he saw the result. We dealt with him,” Wike said. 3 Likes 2 Shares
