Hello NLanders I am a final year student who is aspiring to be a Farmer(fish farming). I would soon graduate and the problem we face in our country is unemployment. I don't want to be one of those who keep writing CV's, going for one interview or another. My dad is an agriculturist ,he inspired my flair for farming although he thinks I don't know anything about farming. I want to prove him wrong. So back to my ambition in being an expert fish farmer. I need ur advice on how to begin. Although I have heard it is capital intensive. Suggest and advise me on how to begin, what to expect in terms of challenges and so on. Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an Islamic cleric , Abdulsalam Salaudeen, for allegedly defiling a five - year -old girl in Lagos . The 43- year- old cleric , who was supposed to be teaching the victim Islamic studies , was said to have been caught having carnal knowledge of her through a video footage that was reportedly presented to the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi . The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, CSP Chike Oti, said in a statement on Wednesday that Imohimi , who was saddened by the incident , dispatched undercover operatives, who arrested the culprit and handed him over to the gender section for detailed investigation. Oti said , “ On Friday, December 28, 2018, a good Nigerian visited the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command with a video evidence of an Islamic cleric , aka Alfa , who was having anal sex with a five -year - old girl that he was supposed to be teaching Islamic studies . The complainant sought audience with the state Commissioner of Police. “ The CP , after watching the heart-rending video , directed the command ’ s undercover operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau to immediately arrest the culprit and hand him over to the gender section for a detailed investigation. The operatives went in search of the cleric and arrested him near a mosque in the Igando area of the state. “ He was taken from there to the gender unit , where the officer -in- charge, ASP Abimbola Williams, confronted him with the video footage of him defiling the child by penetrating her anus and private parts . Upon seeing himself captured like an actor in a movie , the suspect broke down in tears and owned up to the crime . He later gave his name as Abdulsalam Salaudeen, a 43- year- old man and resident at 16 Awoyemi Street, Igando Road, Ikotun, Lagos . ” Oti said the case would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded , adding that the CP , while commending the courageous act of the informant, warned parents and guardians to keep constant watch over their children and wards as nobody could be trusted.

ABUJA—THE organised labour, yesterday, mourned the demise of Nigeria’s first executive president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, saying the country would have been industrialised if not the 1983 coup that sacked the Shagari’s government. President Muhammadu Buhari took over government after the coup that dethroned the civilian administration led by Shagari. In a statement in Abuja, the organised labour, through President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr Ayuba Wabba, noted with delight that the late Shagari signed into law the National Minimum Wage Act of 1981 that provided for a new national minimum wage of N125, which was equivalent to about $200. It said: “We at the NLC would like to join Nigerian government, world leaders, family members and other Nigerians in mourning the death of Alhaji Shagari, elder statesman and first executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “As President, Shagari, as he was popularly known, was humble, personable, considerate and broad-minded, some of the reasons that explained his popularity among ordinary people. Shagari initiated some of the landmark projects, including iron and steel and petrochemicals in his quest to make Nigeria an industrial hub. “Not a few hold the view that but for the coup that removed him from power in 1983, unceremoniously cutting short his second term, Shagari would have seen through his vision of a highly industrialised Nigeria.” Commending on the former President’s life style, Wabba said: “We similarly hold the view that given his urbane and simple and straight forward life style, Shagari would have built an enduring culture of democratic succession in spite of some of the disputed elections in his time.” “However, Shagari was blamed for not exercising requisite control over some of the rambunctious and corrupt members of his cabinet or party, a fact not a few, today, believe was largely responsible for his removal from power. “Amazingly, his removal did little to diminish his towering stature as no act of corruption or wrong doing was traced to him. Thus, in retirement, he was both a respected voice of moderation and wisdom from which succeeding leaders befitted till death took him away. “For us at the NLC, Shagari, despite having come to power on an ideological platform that was manifestly different from the one we subscribed to, holds a special place in our hearts. For instance, he signed into law the National Minimum Wage Act of 1981 that provided for a new national minimum wage of N125 which was equivalent to about $200. “It took more than deft move and political will to execute this. It took the milk of human kindness in Alhaji Shagari and his deep appreciation of the dignity of labour and value of the human life to do this. “To truly appreciate the value of what Shagari did for workers way back then without a bloody fight, let us pause and reflect on the value of the present national minimum wage of N18,000 which is $49 and the new national minimum wage of N30,000 (equivalent to $82) which is due since 2016. “One of his other legacies was a national housing scheme, a component of which was the building of low-cost houses for workers across the then 19 states of the federation. In light of his contributions to national development, peace in the land, and welfare of workers, Shagari remains a national hero, patriot, and a distinguished gentleman.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/shagari-would-have-industrialised-nigeria-if-not-1983-coup-labour/

2 Reverend Fathers attached to St. Theresa’s Parish, Umueze Anam in Anambra West local government area of Anambra State, who were kidnapped on the Christmas Eve on their way to an official function in Onitsha, regained their freedom yesterday after four days in the kidnappers’ den. The victims, Rev Fr Peter Nwachukwu, the parish priest of St Theresa’s Parish, Umueze-Anam and Rev Fr Cajetan Apeh, the assistant parish priest, had since reunited with their families, according to a statement by the Anambra State police command. Police Police patrol team attached to Otuocha Division had earlier recovered a light grey Toyota Corolla Car with registration number FST 689 FL belonging to one of the Reverend Fathers, which was abandoned by the kidnappers at Nneyi- Umueri road. For four days the whereabouts of the clergy men were unknown, resulting in an anxiety in many parts of the state, especially as the incidence of kidnapping had reduced in the state for some years. Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mohammed Haruna said yesterday that Police special teams comprising the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS, Police Mobile Force, PMF, and Counter Terrorism Special Anti Cult unit, in conjunction with other security agencies and the Anambra State Vigilante group, had mounted an intensive search, which led to their rescue. He said that following the joint operations since the incident took place and with the aid of a modern technology and aerial surveillance due to difficult terrain in the area, the abductors were forced to abandon their victims at about 6:45pm on 27/12/2018 Although he did not state where the victims were rescued, the PPRO said that efforts were being intensified to apprehend perpetrators of the heinous crime in order to bring them to justice. He said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar had used the opportunity of the rescue of the Reverend Fathers to reassure Anambra people of their safety during the yuletide period and beyond. “The CP further warned all criminal elements that Anambra is not a place to operate as they will surely meet their waterloo and be dealt with decisively in accordance with the law,” the PPRO said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/two-rev-frs-regain-freedom-after-4-days-in-kidnappers-den-in-anambra/
