The shining

6/10

So I was reading the book, I was at the last chapters when I came to the thread and happened upon the horror movies discussion which piqued my interest in seeing a horror flick; being aware that the book had an adaptation I decided to see it. I read some positive reviews about the movie and even discovered it was dubbed one of the best horror movies but boy I was in for some disappointment. The movie does not come close to the book and the book wasn't all that great but it was miles better than the movie.
I found the movie to be decent and a let down at the same time, the only part I really enjoyed (SPOILERS AHEAD) was when the kid lured the monster into the hedge maze, ran to a certain distance, retraced his steps and got rid of his tracks to where he hid thereby getting rid of the monster by trapping it in the maze.

They should have stayed faithful to the book.
The movie is great. You have to account for the fact that it was made far back when horror movies where far and few in between.

Books usually come out better than the movies

I saw a video on youtube that some priest were brought to the cinema to bless the crowd (before they left the cinema) after watching the horror movie, it was the premier of the movie, and guess what the movie was all about? exorcism and demon possession.
I am not surprised. Back in the day, I couldn't sleep when I watched the exorcist. I watched it when I was still a boy. That face haunted me

Sure, that's what i do nowadays, but it's mostly for horror movies that has to do with Zombies, vampires, Werewolves & some mythical creatures, as for demonic possession & exorcism, it's a no go area for me, my mind is just too fragile for the later, i sure know what i went through, before i got over the nightmares i got from seeing The Autopsy of Jane Doe.
Funny enough, I too have stopped demon possession movies. I feel they are too similar and repetitive. But gawd, they are scary.

So, I can understand how you feel.

Did you know that some people vomited after watching the exorcist?

There is a reason why we are scared of demon possession movies more tha anybother type of horror.

1. Just like zombie movies, it is closer to reality. We all know a mad person that behaves as if possessed. For zombies, an Ebola like disease could cause such morbid body horror. Compare this reality to werewolves and vampires who ate just not real enough.

2. It is a hopeless situation. Once possessed, even priests or shamans might not be able to save you. The priest and your family might even die in the process of exorcism. A slasher serial killer can be stopped with a gun. A werewolf with a silver bullet. A vampire with the sun.
Even if you get cured of the possession, you will still have mental scars that will affect you for life.

3. Religious indoctrination. Many Christians and muslims have been made to fear hell and its occupants. A very primal fear of devilish things. Seeing such coming to life on a screen will torment anyone with religious upbringing.

At the bolded, so do i. But i think it's the thrills in it that makes people enjoy movies like that. I say so because at a time, that was my major motivation for seeing horror flicks(demonic possession & exorcism related flicks). But after my horror Marathon & it's effects on my subconscious for weeks, i vowed to steer clear of the aforementioned. Most people here laughed at me, calling me chicken hearted fellow, but the fact most people here don't know is that, as long as it's a horror Marathon, you must have nightmares, sure they might not be scared while seeing it, but immediate one shut their eyes to sleep, they are solely at the mercy of their subconscious, & trust me, once one has seen that much horror, that guy(subconscious) loves to be very creative, & trust me, he's sure gonna give you a show of a lifetime.
Then why not pace your stream of horror movies? Stop binge watching or marathon watching, as you say?

He wasn't shaken with fear but confessed to having nightmares all week grin

It can't be helped, your subconscious will always play tricks smiley
I swear. I had 3 nights of non stop zombie apocalypse nightmares after binge watching the walking dead.

But it was worth it.

I love horror movies and series.

Lolz..How do you expect yourself to have nightmares when you're probably seeing one or two of those movies in a day.
Download all of 'em, & on Saturday at exactly 1pm have a horror movie Marathon, try to finish the whole list that day at all cost, after that, you can mention me let's talk. You've seen three movies from that list right. Replace them with the following:
The others
Anabelle creation
The Autopsy of Jane Doe
Lights out 2016 is a good horror movie.

It has the smartest moves in a horror movie taken by a character.

TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by JeromeBlack: 12:35pm On Jun 06, 2019
cheesy

This Akata thing is getting out of hand. I don't think anyone on this thread is saying that those living abroad are better than Nigerians living in Nigeria.

However, there is some ignorance that comes when someone does not travel out of his or her environment. A lot of Americans do not travel out of America and that is why many still believe that they are the most free/prosperous country in the world.

There are people who live in Nigeria that try to learn about the outside world. Very good. However, what I believe that I and other akatas (akata meaning based abroad) are against is Nigerians who only interprete things through their culture and religions like local champions.

No one needs to feel inferior or superior. I believe that our fight is against ignorance and not against living in Nigeria.

grin make una calm down

Guess I'm on a trash movies roll. I don't understand. Is Netflicks trying to do reverse divide and conquer. Why are they producing all these mediocre movies? Are they just trying to keep in the loop? Is there a bigger plan?

PS: About to watch Stockholm. Is it any good, for those who have seen it.
Netflix and chill syndrome.

Netflix knows that babes will force guys to watch romance movies when they are chilling together at home.

Also, they have a lot of high school kids series because kids have more time.

Guy, I want to start a new thread for movie philosophy. Where people can talk about movies and also put reviews.

I also want to give prizes in the form of mobile phone credit. Voucher numbers can be sent to ones email or directly to the phone through bank transfer.

The prize giveaway is just to market and get more people involved.
