It will be difficult to pass on my knowledge on tax in a short space but I will try, when vat is collected by government the government first calculates the output vat then the organization presents any input vat already collected by the government probably at the point of purchasing raw materials used or paying for services rendered. The input vat is deducted from the output vat and the company pays the balance.
With what Gov wike is suggesting, if I purchase raw materials in Lagos, Lagos state not the Federal government collects the input vat so if I use those raw materials in Abia state to produce, the Abia state government will not accept the vat already paid in Lagos as input vat. So naturally this drives up the prices of things. Now, I am 150percent certain there would be multiple taxation in different states because it's already happening in all state collected taxes. Anambra state govt for instance has a habit of harassing companies to pay taxes they should not pay to them because their headquarters is in Aba not in Anambra, I know this from personal experience.
The earlier we start asking questions when any politician fights for anything the better for us because they are hardly passionate and quick to implement if it's not for selfish reasons, just look how fast rivers and lagos state are moving and you will know this isn't for your good.
