Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Enugu state police commissioner has disclosed that suspected herdsmen involved in the Enugu massacre have been arrested

Ojukwu says armed robbery, cultism and car snatching as the major security challenges facing Enugu state

The Enugu CP says the case of one corporal Chukwu, a police officer, who was arrested on the orders of the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, is still being examined

Suspected Fulani herdsmen responsible for the recent killing of scores of villagers in Ukpabi Nimbo community in Enugu state have been arrested.

This was disclosed by Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Enugu state police commissioner in his maiden press briefing in the state.

Ojukwu however declined further details on the arrests, directing journalists to send their questions to the high-powered investigative team from the force headquarters, Daily Post reports.


Speaking on the issue of one corporal Chukwu, a police officer, who was arrested on the orders of the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, Ojukwu said the case was examined

He said: “A lot of searchlight has been beamed on him; he have got testimonies about him; if at the end of the day he is found culpable, the full weight of the law will come on him. But he remains innocent until proved otherwise.”

While commiserating with families of the victims, he assured that the police “have put some measures in place to ensure safety and security in the state.

“Let me also advise on the issue of rumour mongering to create fear in the minds of the members of the public and the need for people in that habit to stop the trend but report appropriately to law enforcement agents.”

According to Ojukwu, armed robbery, cultism and car snatching as the major security challenges facing Enugu state.

The Enugu CP revealed that some of the suspects paraded where allegedly involved in armed robbery and illegal manufacturing of fire arms.

The 11 suspects included an 80-year-old man, who is being accused of gun-running.
