Ilorin – Civil Servants in Kwara have started receiving their May salaries, following the directives of the Kwara Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state A statement signed by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Agboola Olarewaju, said the directives covered payments to workers in the Civil Service, Teaching Service, pensioners, Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) including the three state owned media houses. Agboola also said that the members of staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), teachers, Local Government workers and pensioners were also paid their May salary. He added that the Gov. Abdulrazaq led administration was committed to run an open and transparent government and promised to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of the state. He said that a total sum of N3.2billion statutory allocation was received by the Kwara Government as federal allocation for the month of May. Local governments in Nigeria’s federal democracy(Opens in a new browser tab) He said that out of this amount, N2.2billion went into payment of state workers and pensioners, all of who got their full remuneration for the month. The press secretary said that the entire money that came for various local governments also went directly into paying workers’ salaries, which covered only 85 per cent of their salaries. Kwara Lowkey celebration: Keep this up, Mr Governor! Hassan AbdulBaaqi Kwara State Governor-elect AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has further endeared himself to the suffering people of the state as he announced his preference for a low-key swearing-in ceremony on May 29. This singular step shows that Kwara is indeed breaking from the unenviable past of waste, jamboree and lack of feeling for the millions who struggle to feed themselves while public officials wine and dine. This step by the Governor-elect is very symbolic. It shows Kwara may have elected a man wanting to demystify the traditional grandiose lifestyle of many public officials. As a governor who has won an election by a landslide, AbdulRazaq seems to be telling the people that he would run a lean government that recognises their thirst for good governance and judicious use of public resources. This will be a very good thing if carried through. The decision to have a sober swearing in ceremony contrasts sharply with the stature of the Governor-elect who is widely known to be self-made. Spending huge millions, as we are used to in this clime, would have elicited no justifiable outcry. Deciding not to do that therefore calls for a pat on the back for the Governor-elect and his team. By June 9, this country would have survived a certain parliament leader from Kwara who insisted on buying luxury cars for himself from public till at a time Nigeria was going through a harsh economic recession. Kwara is faced with huge infrastructure deficits and the least it needs at this point is a jamboree, although, as I posited above, fanfares have been part of our swearing in ceremony. This again explains why AbdulRazaq deserves to be watched. He seems to be telling the public he's truly from the private sector where prudent management of resources is the watchword. Having said this, one is not oblivious of the fact that certain expenses are a given for any government -- especially during special occasions. What makes the difference is how such expenses reflect the realities on the ground and the accompanying trade-offs May God see him through. And kudos to fellow Kwarans on the choice of this man who appears to want to do things differently. |

Secondary schoolmates of the APC Governorship Candidate in Kwara, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq have faulted reports that the politician dropped out of Government College Kaduna. Government College Kaduna Old Boys Association (GCKOBA) class of 76 made this known in a statement signed by Kabiru Yaro, Abdulmalik Giwa and Sanusi Ramallam on behalf of the 1976 set of the college. The association recalled that AbdulRazaq bore the school registration number 1841 and was a member of the popular El-Kanemi House. “We state that AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (1841), who was a member of Elkanemi House, did not drop out of Government College Kaduna as is being alleged by mischievous elements behind the smear campaign against him. “We, the Class of 1976 at Government College Kaduna wish to strongly condemn attempts to tarnish the image of one of us, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in the name of politics. “We confirm that he duly wrote his final secondary school leaving examination in 1976. “The onus is on anyone who doubts this verifiable information to prove the contrary with credible evidence. “We are particularly worried that a segment of the media could pick what was clearly a smear message planted in the social media and dignified same as a news story. This is dangerous and irresponsible. “We urge our politicians to run issues-based campaign on what they have to offer the electorate,” they added. According to them, resorting to blackmail and downright falsehood during election is bad for the country and serves no public good. The classmates expressed regret that such mischief was always targeted at professionals and genuine businessmen who ventured into politics to make things work for the poor man. It will be recalled that a group of people had alleged that the APC governorship candidate did not graduate from Government College, Kaduna as he claimed. A Kwara State Public worker calls out Saraki and Kwara State Govt. for suspending him indefinitely, all because he supported APC! The allegation is coming barely a week after Saraki's monumental loss of his seat in the Senate to APC's Dr. Oloriegbe. The man also alleges this as a mass action by the State Govt. against civil servants who supported APC against the current government. Seems like the fallen empire strikes back (albeit futile at this point). See images for Evidence (suspension letter) and a post from the Public Worker #sarakistrikesback #kwaratherevenge #civilservantvssaraki

Traditional rulers in Irepodun local government area of Kwara state on Wednesday threw their weight behind the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq ahead of the March 9th governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections. The monarchs said this in Ajase-Ipo, ancestral headquarters of Irepodun local government area. Mallam AbdulRazaq resumed a fresh campaign tour of the southern senatorial district. Speaking on behalf of Olomu of Omu Aran, chairman of Royal Council in Irepodun, AbdulRahm Oladele Adeoti, said: “We started the APC revolution here in the south and there’s no going back. You are going to win a landslide victory in the election.” Abdulrazaq said that his administration will be fair to all segments of the state. “Our government won’t discriminate against any section of Kwara. We’ll share jobs and appointments fairly,” AbdulRazaq said at the palace of Alofa of Iloffa, Oba Samuel Dada where several traditional rulers in the region met him.

Attention shifts to collation centres as APC clears polls in Kwara +Secret service agents deployed to monitor exercise Results from across most polling units in Kwara Central and other parts of the state have shown APC in clear lead, especially in Ilorin where the PDP leader Bukola Saraki lost his Ajikobi polling unit 002 to the opposition. But the APC appears to have learnt its lessons from previous elections when results were upturned overnight in favour of Saraki and his party. Opposition figures have therefore mobilised their members to the collation centres in Ilorin and parts of Asa while security agencies and the electoral body have also been tasked to shun any attempt to manipulate results. “With the massive beating Saraki has suffered in the central, there are fears that he is now working with some unscrupulous elements in the INEC and some fake or real security agents to falsify results overnight,” according to a highly placed secret service official. “We have activated monitoring mechanisms to ensure that results from polling units stay the way they were. Agents from our special squad have been deployed everywhere. Some INEC officials suspected of working for Saraki are being watched. We hope they will be careful. “Another category of people who have been fingered are the collation officials and some academics from the higher institutions. We are told some of them are working to subvert people's votes. We are watching them. Some may be arrested at the collation centres. We have most results from polling units already. “Our advice is that all collating officers in Kwara should maintain their integrity, if they have any, and should not risk criminal conviction and their hard-earned career for bribes as they are all being closely monitored by all security agencies who have field reports of the election. The message is clear: do not subvert the genuine will and choice of the people. You are being watched very close by all and your identity is known.” |
Advisory Note to the media on fake news against AA We believe the media must not be involved in helping fictitious individuals to peddle lies picked up from the social media. The issue of what qualifications anyone has or doesn't have is spelt out under our law. For the media, the appropriate place to fact-check such matter is the institution responsible for issuing the certificate which, in this case, is the WAEC, or the regulatory institution for elections, INEC. The media may note that AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was prequalified and indeed contested elections in 2011 and 2015 with the same genuine WAEC results. Raising fake news about his certificate now is another lame attempt by the discredited political dynasty clutching at straws in the face of imminent defeat in the elections. We however add that the candidate reserves the right to press charges against anyone who deliberately and mischievously peddles lies against him without any credible evidence.
