Solanke only lost out on a loan deal. He could easily have been farmed out but Steven Gerard interest was turned down. Solanke has a better youth record compared to Nwakali. my point remains they are both good talents.. no need to tear any of them down. Modified. The statements I saw against Nwakali were comments on his club record. They were salient points, not an attempt to tear him down. I remember a moniker saying something against him just recently, and I answered Nwakili will eventually come good. relax bro.. I have nothing against him. TheSuperNerd: Situation better than Nwakali?? Seriously? A guy who is finding it hellish getting into match day squads?? What makes his inactivity better? because he is at a far bigger club? Abegii.. That is gobbledygook. Nwakali is seeing consistent gametime in the ledman liga pro. Solanke is being silently frozen out at Liverpool... Simple fact... And when Nwakali was being torn down here you didn't speak up but you doing it now because Comodo is saying the truth about Solanke's out-of-matchday squad role? Oh please... |

on paper they are a really bad bad side. It's not really about Seychelles. It's about how we stand up against "weak" opponents. We are fresh from the world cup, and have been tested against big opponents. This is supposed to be a walkover considering we have familiar names in the squad. But are there other players more deserving? charlesemeka85: bros we have seen a lot of players mentioned in such list who are languishing in obscure leagues now. our own rabiu ibraham, chrisantus marcauley, ex spanish u17 start xisco just to mention a few. nwakali is 20 now and this is the right time he starts doing something in europe football wise to reach the hype wey una don hype am here.
if the porto loan move doesnt work as planned, he can join any decent developmental league such as the belgian, french, dutch or even the austrian league where the likes of salzburg, sturm graz, austria wein are known for given unproven talents a chance to showcase their talents. |

I don't think we should single out K. Nwakali.. we have many players in the same boat. gamaliel9: Could it be that Nwakali is a late developer? Because his age mates are already making waves....its like Donnaruma has been in AC Milan for ages...or that he is not getting opportunity to play. There use to be a certain Abreu from Uruguay...panenka specialist...he use to globtrotte...but alaways find himself in national team...i think the biggest club he played was Derpotivo La Coruna in Europe and Boca Juniors in Latin America but he was always in the national team |

Yes that's the point. A standout performance in a friendly does not say it all. I remember a certain Bright Dike putting up a great performance against Italy in a friendly. Where is he today? Performing well in a friendly should not be written off, but consistent performance in the league a true testimony to talent. Do I believe Kelechi is a talent? from what I have seen (Atletico friendly) yes. But talent is relative, especially when you use the term "special talent" it has to be proven measurably. Those who have shown more promise consistently are definitely more talented. How they will measure up in the main national team is yet another matter. We can never really know until we give them the opportunity. tbaba1234: The bolded is where the overhyping comes.. Yes, he scored a great goal against Athletico.. so what?? Usman Muhammad dribbled the whole defense... So what?? The bigger picture is where their careers are not goals in a friendly match.
Where we differ is that you think his career trajectory so far is fine.I disagree. I do not rate the portuguese second tier as much as you do and i have watched several games over the years. No way, is it better than the Scottish league.
Kelechi has quality but it takes more than that to reach the heights. We have seen many quality youth players disappear. This is the right time for the alarm bells. The boy needs to challenge himself and i hope, he starts raising his level from next season. |

I will be following closely the progression of Yahaya and K. Nwakali in Porto.
So far this season, Musa Yahaya has clocked a full shift, started 1, and had a couple sub-ins K. Nwakali have made 4 match day squads coming in as a sub in 1, and have started 3 times.
Porto B have lost 3 games, but just won 1 yesterday -- coincidentally, both Nwakali and Yahaya started, with the latter playing in RM (winger).

I wish to reply to all of your points, but I guess only some of them may apply to my earlier position. But let me give a general reply that MAY also cover others' positions. Firstly on Uzoho, there were different camps in terms of opinions held. one camp felt he didn't deserve the #1 shirt (that we had at least a better option). Another camp opined that he was not ready to be in goal at the world cup. yet another believed he would come good. I belong to the latter, because I remember saying the area we really needed to worry was our attack failing to deliver. But I still a point with the former camps. The first camp didn't think other keepers were given the chance for a fair competition. The second camp harped on the videos which led to some of us having concerns. Just as we see clips, and we may be moved to overhype a player, it's justified that people would start to worry seeing worrysome showing from Uzoho. There is nothing wrong with that. On my part, I knew Uzoho will eventually come good because Rohr was doing the needed as I predicted -- giving Uzoho all the minutes in our friendlies. Ensuring that he gets the needed exposure to be confident at the WC proper. Now to the main at hand -- Kelechi Nwakali. There is a camp that is disgruntled about his invitation. There are those who like the move (the camp you belong to) because the boy has shown "special talent" based on his U17 days and the Atletico friendly. Yet there is another camp asking if someone else who have shown better talent based on output is not given an opportunity we would never know if that player being in the team would have made our SE stronger. I belong to the latter camp. Should concessions be given for special talent? why not? but how you determine special talent is the crux of the matter. Granted, Rohr is the coach and he decides based on what he sees or/and who others recommend. Nigeria has it's own uniqueness, so we don't necessarily have to follow other successful countries in terms of the criteria they use in player selection. But we still need to ask ourselves if what we've been doing have been working for us. At the end of the day, the stronger the team the MORE LIKELY we would go FARTHER in tournaments -- that's the big picture. I don't know if anyone is crying here about the matter. But what I see are varying opinions. however, there are several monikers who get really emotional when arguing their case. They resort to name callings etc. I don't think we should stress over these things. TheSuperNerd: Instead of focusing on harnessing the best out of the available options we are gradually laying hands upon based on what they all bring to the table specific to the progress and positive evolution of our young Super Eagles team, some folks are still crying foul over Kelechi Nwakali's call up most especially when it is clear to all WHY he was called up!!! What is the matter with some humans sef? Can't they just focus on the main things for once? Can't you try view the Big/Bigger picture? This was how Tbaba1234 and some others went on and on pre-Russia telling us how "unready" Uzoho was especially after dropping those clips of Uzoho in the Third tier. Oh yes, Tbaba did say he had good potentials but he always (as with others) hammered that Uzoho was not ready and may be our undoing in Russia. It was only the likes of me, Realpoacher (where is he sef?) and a few others who stood our ground acknowledging we may have a challenge in goal but we believe and know Uzoho will be ready. We also pointed out that Rohr obviously sees something special in the lad to stick with him. Things no one here can see or spot in details from the comfort of hiding behind our computers, laptops, smartphones.
Listen folks, many of you here have been proven wrong before as regards Rohr taking similar steps with K.Nwakali as he did with Uzoho prior to the WC. So let Rohr be. If Rohr sees nothing in him for the good of the team, then he will be discarded....
... But if this boy goes on to establish himself as a Viable option in the Super Eagles team ehn... And prove a relevant addition to the side, I wonder what new tune you cry-babies will sing. Just pathetic.
I may be young but I have seen life from a lot of angles and I do understand that sometimes in life, protocols will and can be broken to accommodate a special case scenario. I am for the most deserving getting their chances and all (Kalu belongs to this category of most deserving too and he got his call...Onyekuru too have earned a recall becos he deserves it) but I also know that sometimes in life situations, protocols are broken for a special talent or special case scenario. In my high school days I also experienced this which at the end of the day was a master stroke decision.
Kelechi Nwakali is A SPECIAL TALENT and there is obviously a quality or rather qualities Rohr saw in the lad to lend him an invite. So it is up to K.Nwakali to seize the moment and opportunity to show that he can make us better. This is about the team's growth and not about Nwakali and I strongly believe that if Rohr is proven right, then it is our Super Eagles that will benefit and the fans rejoice.
Focus on the main things and THE BIGGER PICTURE and stop the pathetic cries abeg. It is becoming nauseating. |

I agree. I want to give the most deserving opportunity first. Else the less deserving may perform and shut out players that are potentially better, or would probably have done better for the national team. You never know until you give the player the opportunity. but you want to give the most deserving first. It will be to OUR own gain, as a national team, in the long run. Modified I think some of us are failing to look at the big picture.. but busy being sentimental comparing player A to B.. At the end of the day, we all want the team to win. How about we build the best possible team we can build? komekn: I am quite familiar Porto business model considering my personal experience with Portuguese football, my view is ;
First of all , i am not under any illusions to believe that Rohr is the sole person deciding who gets selected for the SE. There are other players in this game and influences.
Nwakali is project not justified by talent but other interests. I expect Nwakali before December or early next year to get a few games with Porto first team. After that he will become associated with the Porto Brand and be sold or get a better loan move add to that the unjustified call up to the SE will give his value some momentum.
However, if he is woeful i mean falls so below the standard then its all over, the scam ends.
In football the paramount thing for every footballer is OPPORTUNITY who will get the opportunity is the issue. Opportunity must be deserved and given to those who deserve it the most.
A year is a long time in football and two years history and three years its archived if that performance is not continuous and consistent. Some on this forum clutch at straws and use media reports to underpin their unsubstantiated opinions. For instance on the backdrop of Kelechi exploits in the U17 World cup he was classed by one media outlet very misguided as number 48 in the World for players U19.
The more pertinent question is if more deserving players were given the same opportunity, i believe they would not be fringe players or potential players but outright essential team members by now. THAT IS THE ISSUE, Giving OPPORTUNITY to the most deserving. |
