anyone notice what i am seeing on this story? anyway, what i leant is that duncan escape to the usa immediately after he learnt he has been expose to the virus. He quickly rush out before showing symptoms. The americans don't want others who might want to escape like duncan to go get themselves better treatment. Its a paste they keep on ground. So Don't go to the US to save your life If you have ebola. Because you won't find any. |
Ebola Care Costs $1,000 per Hour: Caring for Duncan may cost as much as half a million dollars, a bill that his hospital is unlikely to ever collect. Duncan is in critical condition at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where he has been isolated since Sept. 28. He’s on a ventilator, has been given an experimental medicine and is receiving kidney dialysis, a hospital spokeswoman said today. His treatment probably includes fluids replacement, blood transfusions & drugs to maintain blood pressure. There’s also the cost of security, disposing of Ebola-contaminated trash & equipment to protect caregivers. The bill may eventually total $500,000 incl. indirect costs such as the disruption to other areas of hospital care. Duncan’s care probably costs $18,000 to $24,000 a day, said Gerard Anderson, a health policy professor at Johns Hopkins Univ. Bloomberg School of Public Health. Duncan has been in isolation in the hospital for 9 days so far. “If they recognize that he has no money they will clearly just write it off as charity care.” Duncan came to the U.S. from Liberia on Sept. 20 on a tourist visa. He has no health insurance to pay for his care, said the Jesse Jackson, the civil rights advocate, who traveled to Dallas at the request of Duncan’s mother. Spokesmen for Texas Health Presbyterian & for the Liberian Embassy in D.C. declined to discuss who will pay for Duncan’s care. “It’s too early to make a decision about payment of bills; he is in critical condition,” said Gabriel Williams of the Liberian Embassy in D.C. “The focus is on his health.” Duncan is the 1st case of Ebola diagnosed in the U.S. Emory Univ. Hospital Atlanta & Nebraska Medical Center Omaha have also treated Ebola patients, 3 of whom have been released after recovering. A 4th patient is under care in Omaha and a 5th in Atlanta. Neither of the hospitals would comment on the cost of treating those patients. Kent Brantly, the 1st person to be transported from Liberia to the U.S. for care, was covered under health insurance provided by his charity, Samaritan’s Purse. 2 other aid workers, Nancy Writebol & Rick Sacra, went to Liberia with the Charlotte, North Carolina-based missionary group SIM. They are covered by the group’s health & workers’ compensation insurance plans, & SIM plans to pay their $25,000 deductibles, said George Salloum, the group’s VP for finance & operations. Writebol’s evacuation from Liberia was covered in full by one of SIM’s insurance carriers, Aetna Inc. He’s still waiting for bills from other carriers, whom he declined to name, & said he didn’t know what the hospital care cost. “The hospitals have not disclosed that information to us,” Salloum said in a phone interview. “I’m very anxious to find out, personally, just wondering what they’re charging for that kind of care.” Emory & Nebraska are known for their expertise in exotic diseases & careful isolation of infectious patients. It is ranked the 5th - best hospital in the Dallas-Fort Worth region & 15th-best in Texas by U.S. News & World Report. Duncan arrived there in an ambulance on Sept. 28, after being initially sent home 2 days earlier from the emergency room with antibiotics. The hospital has blamed a communication failure in its electronic record system for Duncan’s initial release. “They have an excellent reputation in the community” & “very good infectious disease physicians,” said Stephen Love, president & CEO of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council. Anderson, who is a former federal health official, said that as a foreign citizen Duncan wouldn’t be eligible for any U.S. health programs such as Medicaid, for low income people. Texas hospitals charge $8,176 per day on average for treatment of viral illnesses, incl. exotic diseases such as West Nile virus & Dengue fever, said Andrew Fitch, a health-care pricing expert at NerdWallet, a San Francisco-based company that provides consumer finance & health data. |

Facebook is all set to launch a new peer-to-peer payment feature within its Messenger app, allowing users to quickly and easily transfer money to each other. Facebook has yet to officially launch the app but Stanford computer science student Andrew Aude discovered that the system is already in place on the company's iOS app - it just needs to be switched on. As you can see in the screenshots tweeted by Aude, the system would allow you to register a debit card with Facebook and then use that to transfer money to contacts through Facebook Messenger. Mobile payments is a huge area of interest at the moment, and Facebook has not been shy about flagging up its interest in the area previously, with CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg saying in July that "over time there will be some overlap between [Messenger] and payments. The payments piece will be a part of what will help drive the overall success and help people share with each other and interact with businesses." However, he urged Wall Street not to get too foamy at the mouth because it may be awhile since "there's so much groundwork for us to do." [ What is Ello: the latest social network expained ] The details of how this system will work however are still unclear. Fee The fact that payment code was present in the Facebook Messenger app was discovered by security researcher Jonathan Zdziarski last month, but Aude was able to use a jailbroken iPhone to tinker with the app and turn on the payment system. The big question for Facebook users is whether or not the system will be free. Speaking to TechCrunch, Aude was unable to say for certain: "Based on my understanding of the debit interchange rates, each transaction will cost Facebook roughly $0.40 to $0.50 (Durbin swipe fee + ACH fee). The app didn't mention a fee to send, so it's probably free, at least initially. Over time they might add a $1 fee." It is also unclear if Facebook will set a limit on how much money can be transferred, and if so what that limit will be. What is also unknown is if Facebook will allow credit cards, bank accounts or potentially even PayPal as a method of payment. Privacy and security Another major hurdle facing Facebook to get widespread adoption of this system will be security and privacy. While no details of these transactions will appear in people's News Feeds, Facebook will need to work hard to convince people that Messenger is a safe and secure environment to store payment details and send money. In its current form the system only facilitates one-to-one payments but a note in the code discovered by Aude says that group payments are planned: "In the short term, we will only support single payment attachment. Multiple payment attachments will be supported in the future." Facebook spun off Messenger from its main mobile app as it tries to compete against the likes of WhatsApp, Snapchat, WeChat, Line, Viber and more in the messaging space. Adding a payments feature could give it a significant advantage over others in the market. Apple recently revealed that it has 800 Million iTunes accounts, meaning it has 800 million debit or credit cards on file. This is something Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg may want to emulate, particularly as it is working on a new Buy button to allow you purchase items directly from your News Feed. www.wicmedia.com/viewtopic.php?pid=416#p416 |

Forget #bendgate, iPhone 6 Plus users have discovered a new woe to add to their list of complaints, and it already has its own hashtag: #hairgate. And #seamgate After reports that Apple’s new handset bends if enough pressure is applied to it, users are now taking to Twitter to claim that the smartphone is catching hairs from people’s heads and beards and pulling them out. “I’m concerned about my iPhone 6 Plus, keeps yanking out my hair when I’m making a call,” an anonymous user wrote in a community post on 9to5mac.com. According to Twitter users, hairs get stuck in the fine seam between the glass and the aluminium on the new handsets. Online Tweet [b] People are joking about #hairgate but this is actually a real problem. Haha. It has pulled out my goatee hairs. While Apple says it has only received a handful of official complaints about the issue, it is thought that the new phones are susceptible to being bent because the iPhone 6 Plus is so much larger than previous phones. At the time, Apple said that with “normal use” a bend in the iPhone should be “extremely rare,” and that the new handsets feature “steel/titanium inserts to reinforce stress locations and use the strongest glass in the industry”. www.wicmedia.com/viewtopic.php?pid=414#p414 |
Hussein Mohamed, originally from Ethiopia, runs a radio show for African immigrants in his hometown of Atlanta. In West Africa, radio stations are using their power to inform listeners about Ebola. And in Atlanta, an African immigrant is taking on the same mission. Hussein Mohamed was born in Ethiopia and moved to the US as a child in the early 1980s, fleeing the country's civil war. Today, he runs a radio show, Sagal Radio, targeted at Atlanta's African immigrant community, and he's trying to help his audience get a better understanding of Ebola. Mohamed says he gets calls from concerned listeners who want to know how to avoid getting sick, or what to do if a family member is showing signs of the illness. "[We bring on] guests, like doctors who know a lot about Ebola, and discuss issues about Ebola," he says. But he's worried about the effect that Ebola fears are having on the way that people treat Africans. Recently, Mohamed had to take his mother, an elderly asthma sufferer, to a nearby hospital, DeKalb Medical. "They have a sign [that says] if you are from Africa or you've been in contact with someone from Africa and you're feeling sick, put on a face mask," he says. The sign targets all Africans, he complains, while just three countries out of more than 50 on the continent are actually battling Ebola. The hospital did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Mohamed is worried that this kind of communication about Ebola will create misconceptions about people from Africa. "We don't want to be targeted because we are from Africa and because of this disease," he says. But he stresses that African immigrants aren't taking the disease lightly. "We're all worried," he says. And he hopes that the US government will pour enough resources into West Africa to help stop the disease. "Let's fight it there so that we don't get it over here in the first place." www.wicmedia.com/viewtopic.php?pid=413#p413 www.pri.org/stories/2014-10-06/atlanta-radio-host-wants-people-stop-stigmatizing-africans-over-ebola |

Ebola virus originated the same way AIDS virus originated. Virologists prepared the AIDS virus using animal various types of animals viruses to create uncurable human virus. They spreaded this virus in African to kill and reduce African population. They also spread it in Haiti. In order to divert people's attention from their murderous act the said it is from African green monkey. Which is a blatant lie. Later when experiment revealed that it wan impossible for a monkey to carry the virus, the turned to other factors like homosexual etc. And now here again they have created another virus spreading it in Africa called ebola virus. And once again to divert peoples attention from another great murder they are causing they attribute the origin of the virius from the same African green monkey. They give doctors money to spread the false news. It is time for African leaders to stand up and demonstrate against this murderous acts whict the World Health Organzation is the spear head. |
