omusiliyu: The Igala Social-Cultural Groups on Wednesday dissociated the Igala nation of Kogi State from having any part with the Biafra agitators calling for secession in the country.
Spokesman of the group, Mr Barry Moses Idakwo at a news conference yesterday in Lokoja expressed anger over the inclusion of the Igala nation in the map of the Republic of Biafra being agitated for by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and others.
The group lamented that it was an attempt to balkanise the ancient Igala nation, stressing that Nigeria is a democratic country where any Nigerian should be allowed to live peacefully and secured as prescribed by laws without any fear of intimidation.
"The agitators for Biafra have marginalisation as the main plan for their grievances. It is therefore unthinkable to annex the Igala kingdom without consulting us. This is against the spirit of fairness, sovereignty, equity, peaceful cohabitation and democracy to falsely claimed that Igala kingdom which was never defeated in any war as part of Biafra," he said.
He said that the Igala ethnic nationality holds the unity, oneness and indivisibility of Nigeria as sacrosanct.
"We urge our Igbo brothers to engage the Nigeria nation more purposefully for quality governance rather than agitations for separatist state,
"We, as a people in middle belt crave for peace at all times because when war breaks out, we will be at the receiving end the theatre of war. The last civil war holds wars very unpleasant testimonies," Idakwo said.
The group decried the minimal federal presence in Igala kingdom in terms of infrastructure and appealed to the federal government to continue work on the construction of the Bagana-Guto bridge which link its people the FCT, South-east and South-South.
Idakwo said there was urgent need to swear in Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni as a substantial Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria having passed through screening at the National Assembly.

ritababe: GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday, assured residents of the state that a section of the state would, in the next six months, begin to enjoy 24 hours electricity supply following a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between the state government and an Independent Power Project, IPP, to generate five megawatts of electricity.
Governor Obaseki gave the assurance while flagging off the National Industrial Skills Development Programme, NISDP, a collaborative effort between the government and the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, to train 500 youths in the state on Information Communication Technology, fashion design, pastry, welding and fabrication. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Osarodion Ogie, the governor said the IPP company had started construction, noting that in six months, some of the trainees would have become entrepreneurs and would utilise the 24 hours electricity supply to boost their businesses. “In six months, Edo State Government intends to provide 24 hours electricity to some sections of the state and this will be made possible through the MoU signed with an IPP company which has already started construction,” he said. Some of you will become employers of labour. You will begin to run shifts for 24 hours, having people working for you day and night”.

Politics › Re: Buhari’s Illness: No Constitutional Crisis In Nigeria, Says Presidency by joespiceman(m): 6:40pm On Jun 05, 2017 |
DONSMITH123: There is no constitutional crisis in Nigeria, with President Muhammadu Buhari’s medical leave in London, according to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.
In a statement today, Shehu dismissed an article by a so-called Nigerian historian, Max Siollun, which speculates that Nigeria faces imminent political and constitutional crisis on account of President Buhari’s absence to attend to his health in London.
The contentious article entitled “The Gentleman’s Agreement that Could Break Apart Nigeria,” was published in the United States-based Foreign Policy magazine.
Garba said the article was a “needlessly sensational and exaggerated speculations by conspiracy theorists”. He said it was misleading for the writer to compare President Buhari’s case to that of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, adding that the circumstances are completely different. According to Shehu, unlike President Yar’Adua, President Buhari has duly complied with the constitutional requirements by formally notifying the National Assembly of his intention to go for medical treatment and handing over to Professor Yemi Osinbajo as Acting President.
“While Yar’Adua was too severely ill to transmit a letter formally to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Buhari is not in such medical state, and therefore, the country is not currently facing any complications on account of his absence.”
The media aide noted that under President Yar’Adua, there was uncertainty about the role of the Vice President because the late President was not in a position to formally transfer power to his deputy, which necessitated the resort to the doctrine of necessity to enable Dr. Goodluck Jonathan act in his absence.
Malam Shehu explained that, currently, none of these circumstances prevail in Nigeria on account of President Buhari’s absence for medical treatment. According to him, having transferred power formally to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, President Muhammadu Buhari did not leave Nigeria with any power vacuum, adding, therefore, that any suggestions of uncertainty or constitutional crisis are imaginary and exaggerated.
He explained that with the Acting President Professor Osinbajo already running the affairs of the country in the absence of President Buhari, people should stop creating artificial fears of crisis or uncertainty, noting that governance has not ground to a halt because President Buhari has duly complied with the constitution. Malam Shehu appealed to conspiracy theorists not to pollute the polity by needlessly seeking to create an atmosphere of fear, uncertainty and suspicions in the country.
The Media aide said that the President publicly admitted he was sick and taking treatment and that he never pretended about his health condition with that open admission.
