Politics"I Wasn't Hired By Nigerian Govt" Stephen Davis Allegedly Says by johnchiii(op): 9:21pm On Sep 07, 2014
Australian hostage negotiator Stephen Davis who
has been widely described as a man hired by the
Nigerian government to negotiate with Boko
Haram in an effort to help free the Chibok girls,
has allegedly said he was not in Nigeria (for four
months) at the request of the federal government.
In an interview with Soni Daniel, which was
published on Vanguard today, Stephen allegedly
said he was never engaged by the Nigerian
government to dialogue with the sect.
"I was not engaged by the Federal
Government of Nigeria, any state
government or any other party. I went to
Nigeria in late April in an effort to facilitate a
handover of the Chibok captives after
discussing such a possibility with former
commanders of JAS (Jama’atu Ahlul
Sunnah Lih Da’awa wal Jihad otherwise
known as JAS) and others close to Boko
Haram. Why did you release the report of
your assignment to the media instead of
sending it to government? I did not
construct a report of my efforts in Nigeria.
As I said earlier, I was not engaged by any
party and therefore had no obligation to
report to anyone." Continue...
Some Nigerians find it curious that you decided
to give your report only to Arise TV, owned by a
Nigerian, Nduka Obiagbena, who also owns
Thisday Newspapers and may be sympathetic to
some politicians in Nigeria.
"I gave a radio interview to the ABC in Australia
which subsequently told me that after the
transcript was posted to their online site, it had
been picked up in the UK and Sky News
requested an interview. In the hope of bringing
attention to the many other girls and boys
kidnapped by Boko Haram, I agreed to a
television interview. That interview took place in
Channel 7 studios in Australia and it was at that
point that I was told it was an interview with
Arise TV. I had not heard of Arise TV and did not
know it was owned by a Nigerian or indeed that it
had any association with Nigeria. At the time of
giving the TV interview, I was of the
understanding that it would be broadcast by Sky
News in the UK. On Mr Obiagbena, I have not met
him or ever been contacted by him.
Many Nigerians find it extremely difficult to
understand how the former Chief of the Army
Staff, Lt. Gen. Ihejirika, who actually fought Boko
Haram elements and was accused of genocide
could be linked with sponsoring the violent
group.
It is much easier to understand Mr Sheriff’s
alleged association with Boko Haram than any
association of Mr Ihejirika. Mr Sheriff was said to
have a long history of promoting groups to assist
in his past efforts to win the governorship of
Borno State. On 29 July 2009, there was a
confrontation with security officers at Mamudo
Village, along Potiskum/Damaturu Road, Yobe. 33
JAS members were killed. Later that night, there
was a long battle with combined security
operatives at Railway Terminus, Maiduguri, Borno
State. Scores were killed and the JAS operational
base was destroyed. Yusuf was subsequently
captured by the military and handed over to the
police.
The JAS alleged that it was on Sheriff’s orders
that Yusuf was executed in Maiduguri on 30 July
2009. Shekau was presumed killed in the same
battle and a corpse was identified as that of
Shekau. Thus the remaining JAS leaders made it
clear their intention was to kill Sheriff and so it is
right that Sheriff claims he is a victim of JAS. The
Boko Haram we see today is not the JAS that was
operational under Yusuf. Shekau emerged in
mid-2010 and publicly claimed the leadership of
a reinvigorated JAS. Shekau formed Ansaru
which he used for kidnapping and beheading
victims.
This behaviour was a major departure from the
original mandate of the JAS which was to purify
Islam and return it to the behaviour example in
the life of the Prophet. Many among the JAS
leadership are no longer active and others have
been killed. This has allowed Shekau to take the
JAS to more extreme action and expanded the
kidnapping, bombing and slaughtering.
The Boko Haram we have today is a much
expanded Ansaru. What we see now is not the
Yusufiya which wanted very much to settle
scores with Sheriff. It is Boko Haram as a partner
to ISIS and Al Shabaab. Now I will offer an
opinion as to the motives of the sponsors of Boko
Haram. The political sponsors of Boko Haram
seem to think that they can use Boko Haram to
terrorise Nigeria to demonstrate that the current
government cannot ensure the security of
Nigerian citizens both Muslim and Christian.
Therein the sponsors assume they can
undermine any efforts of the current government
to be re-elected in 2015. Herein lies the flaw for
the conflict and instability currently being fanned
suits the aims of Al Qa’eda and the architects of
terrorism.
Should the sponsors of Boko Haram win
government in 2015, they will likely find that they
cannot turn Boko Haram off or that Boko Haram
will demand control of at least Borno State in
return for reducing their attacks. Borno State may
be just the beginning of an expanding caliphate.
Several Boko Haram commanders and other
persons close to and respected by Boko Haram
have told me the names of some of the sponsors
of Boko Haram. They have also described how
some funds are transferred and arms made
available. I have made public some of that
information. I have also been told by some
commanders that if one of the sponsors is
arrested, they will surrender, release the girls and
give information on the sponsors.
Not all Boko Haram commanders will follow this
lead but it may be a firm step towards
dismantling or at least isolating Boko Haram.
PoliticsShekau Changed The Ideology Of Boko Haram – Davis by johnchiii(op): 8:58pm On Sep 07, 2014
Australian Boko Haram negotiator, Dr Stephen
Davis weekend explained how Abubakar
Shekau hijacked Islamist sect Boko Haram.

In an interview with Vanguard, Davis, who
accused former governor of Borno State,
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, and an erstwhile
Chief of the Army Staff, Lt. General Azubuike
Ihejirika of being sponsors of Boko Haram
said the group terrorising the country today
was not the same as the one led by
Mohammed Yusuf, killed by the police in
2009.
“The Boko Haram we see today is not the
Jama’atu Ahlul Sunnah Lih Da’awa wal Jihad
(JAS) that was operational under Yusuf –
former JAS leader killed by the police in
2009,” Davis said.
“Shekau formed Ansaru which he used for
kidnapping and beheading victims. This
behaviour was a major departure from the
original mandate of the JAS which was to
purify Islam and return it to the exemplary life
of the Prophet. Many among the JAS
leadership are no longer active and others
have been killed. This has allowed Shekau to
take the JAS to a more extreme action and
expand the frontiers of kidnapping, bombing
and slaughtering. The Boko Haram we have
today is a much expanded Ansaru. What we
see now is not the Yusufiya which wanted
very much to settle a score with former
Governor Ali Modu Sheriff. It is Boko Haram
as a partner to ISIS and Al Shabaab.”
Davis admitted that he came to Nigeria in
April to facilitate the release of the Chibok girls
abducted by Boko Haram, but denied that he
was engaged by any party and therefore had
no obligation to report to anyone.
He claimed to have interacted with former
commanders of JAS and others close to Boko
Haram during his visit to Nigeria.
Yusuf had in a 2009 BBC interview, stated his
belief that the concept of a spherical Earth is
contrary to Islamic teaching and should be
rejected, along with Darwinian evolution, and
the concept of rain originating from water
evaporated by the sun, as he sought to purify
Islam and return it to the exemplary life of the
Prophet.
Despite being against westernization, Yusuf
was said to have had a graduate education,
spoke proficient English, lived a lavish lifestyle
and drove a Mercedes-Benz.

PoliticsJim Iyke’s ‘escape’ From Liberia’s Ebola Virus – Photo by johnchiii(op): 6:10am On Jul 31, 2014
Nollywood’ star Jim Iyke posted a message
on his Instagram page saying he had cut
short a business trip to Monrovia in Liberia -
where at least 600 people have already died
from the disease.
The image of Iyke sitting on
green leather-clad seats in the airport’s luxury
first class lounge while wearing an expensive
designer watch and sunglasses was
accompanied with the caption: ‘Not ashamed
to admit this scares the Jesus outta me
#Ebola.’

Fear: Much of the anger on social media
stems from fear among Nigerian citizens that
Iyke (pictured left and right) appeared to be
travelling back to the country from Liberia
without having had tests to see if he is
infected
The contrast between Iyke’s image of first
class luxury is in stark contrast to the
thousands of terrified Liberians who are living
in fear of contracting the deadly disease.
However, much of the anger about his image
stemmed from fear among Nigerian citizens
that Iyke appeared to be travelling back to the
country without having been tested to see if
he was infected.
Twitter user @Avariberry posted a message
reading: ‘Jim Iyke or Not… he gotta be
screened. #TestJimIyke.’
Meanwhile @IcallDibbz_ said: ‘Please ooo,
James Ikechukwu, aka Jim Iyke, should be
quarantined.’
Others picked up on the fact Iyke had an
expensive face mask to protect himself, but
was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt.
Ebola is transmitted through close contact
with the blood, secretions, organs or other
bodily fluids of infected animals, and in many
parts of West Africa people are being told to
cover as much of their body as possible to
ensure the infection doesn’t enter their
bloodstream through a small cut.
Iyke has appeared in more than 150 films,
including Last Flight to Abuja, and is the
founder of the Jim Iyke Foundation for
Children with Special Disabilites.
He began acting in 2001 and is one of the
highest paid actors in Nollywood – Nigeria’s
answer to Hollywood.

PoliticsN100m Gift: Community Leaderscheating Us – Chibok Parents by johnchiii(op): 7:32am On Jul 30, 2014
Parents of the abducted Chibok girls have
reportedly cried out that their community
leaders have cheated them in the way an
alleged N100 million cash gift from the
presidency was shared.

The grieving parents were said to have been
given the money when they met President
Goodluck Jonathan on July 22 at the
Presidential Villa.
The Presidency allegedly handed over the
money to leaders of the Chibok community in
Abuja for onward presentation to parents of
the abducted schoolgirls.
According to a report monitored on Hausa
service of the British Broadcasting
Corporation, BBC, some of the parents are
now alleging that the Abuja-based community
leaders have shortchanged them.
One parent, who was among those who
visited the President, told BBC that he got
only N200,000.
“I got only N200,000 out of the said
N100million allegedly received by our leaders
in Abuja. Some of us got N300,000 and some
less than that.
He also said that he was not comfortable with
the way the money was shared among
parents of the kidnapped girls.
“Our leaders in Abuja are using the girls to
enrich themselves. In fact, some of the
parents were screened out of the entourage
by the Chibok leaders in Abuja. Many of them
are residents of Abuja, not parents of the
kidnapped girls”.
Another parent, who was screened out of the
delegation that visited the President, said he
got only N7,000 out of the money shared.
“I was at the farm when they brought the
N7,000 to my house and I collected it. Some
of us got even less, some got N300 and
below,” he said.
The parents stressed that they were not
selling their daughters and that the money
from the President just came to them as they
neither asked for, nor expected it.
One of the community leaders, Pobu Bitrus,
who is also a member of the House of
Representatives and was at the meeting with
the President explained to the BBC that after
meeting with the President, monies were
distributed to the parents in envelopes.
“After we met with the president, the parents
were given monies in envelopes and that’s all.
All other things they are saying about
N100million, I don’t know about that,” Mr.
Bitrus said.
In its reaction, yesterday, the Presidency
however said that it never gave N100 million
to parents of the abducted school girls, who
were at the Presidential Villa, Abuja last week,
saying the story was absolutely false.
Senior Special Assistant to President
Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr.
Doyin Okupe, yesterday told Vanguard that the
government only took care of the parents’
accommodation and feeding and described
contrary stories as “absolute falsehood.”
“The President did not give any N100m to the
visitors from Chibok. Government took care of
their accommodation, feeding and
transportation.
“Government’s plan is robust rehabilitation
and resettlement of the girls who have
escaped so they can continue their education.
“The government also plans to rebuild the
school and in general terms, repair damaged
infrastructure as a result of Boko Haram
insurgency in the North East,” Okupe said.
The abducted girls are still in their captors’
stronghold after being taken from their school
on April 14, 2014. Although the government
has announced several rescue efforts,
including international support, the girls
remain missing.

CrimeWhat Armed Robbers Did To Patients In Hospital In Delta State by johnchiii(op): 7:08am On Jul 23, 2014
The unthinkable happened at the weekend
when armed robbers unleashed hell on
patients and workers at the General Hospital,
Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government
Area of Delta State.

According to the Sun online, when the robbers
attacked the hospital, they defiled patients and
female workers before carting away their
belongings including cash, GSM handsets and
other valuables.
Finding revealed that the robbers, who were
many, shot into the air on arrival and ordered
the people around, including medical
personnel to lie face down before executing
their mission.
It was gathered that last weekend robbery
attack at the hospital was the third time men
of the underworld would terrorise the hospital
without restraint.
Investigation revealed that resident of the area
are now afraid to patronise the hospital as
their safety was no longer guaranteed.
A middle-aged woman, who visited her
relative at the hospital told newsmen that she
could not stay up to five minutes for fear of
being attacked by robbers.
It was also gathered that relatives of some
patients at the hospital are already
withdrawing their wards and relocating them
to other hospitals and herbal homes.
Residents of the area who spoke with Daily
Sun urged the state government to provide
security in the hospital to curb the excesses
of bandits, who had made life unbearable for
patients and workers.
