A look at 65-year-old Akpan Joseph , will never pass him for a fraudster, owing to his seemingly calm disposition. But he is currently cooling his heels at the dreaded Lagos State Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Ikeja. Reason? He was reported to have gone to one of the Ilorin branches of a first generation bank,on January 7, 2015, posing as one of the account holders , who had come to transfer the sum of N1 million from his supposed account , into two separate accounts, Meanwhile, the authentic account holder, a 35 year-old business man identified as Chinedu Mba, was murdered four months earlier by unknown gunmen in his apartment in Gindiri Jos, Plateau state. Back in the banking hall in Ilorin, Joseph was asked to sit down while the transaction was being processed. Unknown to him, the cashier who apparently suspected something was amiss, had called in the police. Joseph was reportedly arrested and later transferred to the Lion building division in Lagos. Thereafter, he was transferred to the SARS. On further checks, the late Chinedu Mba’s phone was also discovered from Joseph. In this interview with Crime Guard, he claimed to have been hired by a man whose name he simply gave as Benson, to make the transaction, with a promise to be given N200,000 at the end. He further stated that the said Benson also handed the decease d’s sim card to him. Hear the Akwa-ibom state born : “ A man called Benson , whom I met about ten years ago while I was a security man at Tin Island ports, took me to Ilorin for a business transaction. He did not give me full details of the business transaction but he promised to give me 20% of the amount . The way he described the business made the transaction look so easy and without complications . We travelled to Ilorin on January, 5, 2015 and lodged in Henry George hotel for two days. Thereafter, Benson gave me a filled fund transfer form before we proceeded to Union bank where he asked me to submit the form, posing as the account holder. The filled form was an instruction to transfer N500,000 each into two separate GTB accounts with name Victoria Abikele. But to my surprise, the cashier looked intently at me and back to the computer system before him. Before I knew it, I was arrested . And when I turned to look for Benson, he was no where to be found” Journey to MTN to retrieve decease SIM card It was after I was arrested that I got to know that the owner of the account was murdered. I am not the killer. I was in possession of the sim because Benson went to MTN office in Ilorin to retrieve the number of late Chinedu, while I waited for him in the car. On his arrival, he handed the phone to me. I didn’t kill the late Chinedu. I didn’t even know that he was dead. Right now I feel very stupid for my action because I never thought I would get into this kind of trouble. I wish Benson would be arrested. He has answers to the questions at hand. I strongly believe that an insider in the bank gave Benson the information that Chinedu was dead, that is why he had all the details about the deceased. Ah! what will my family say? I told my wife in the village that I was going to Seme to buy second hand clothes. I didn’t tell her I was travelling to Illorin for a business transaction”, he said in an emotional laden tone. On his part, the bereaved father , Mr Merclenious Mba, a native of Enugu state, described the whole scenero as a movie, wishing he would wake up to discover it was one after all. The 57 year-old father of nine, said the family received with shock the news of the death of his son, Chinedu, on September 9, 2014, by gunmen who stormed his apartment. “Immediately I received the news, I requested that his remains be brought home which they did and he was buried according to the traditional rites in my place. |
By Victoria OjemeThe United Nations (UN) has cautioned Nigerians and political parties’ supported to desist from act that is capable of causing violence in the forthcoming general elections. The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for West Africa, Mohammed Ibn Chambas, who made the remark in an interview with journalists during his courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Aminu Wali, in Abuja, said the world cannot afford to see Nigeria slip into a political crisis. “The UN Secretary General has, in fact, expressed his concern that the elections here be violent-free, inclusive and credible. We believe Nigeria has the capacity to deliver elections that are not marred by violence, that are transparent and that would allow for free expression of the will of the Nigerian people. It must maintain its unity and cohesion, and be able to carry forward and undertake its leadership role “Of course, we always want to draw attention to the fact that the whole world; the eyes of the world are on Nigeria because of who Nigeria is. Nigeria is the pre-eminent country in Africa; economically is the biggest economy, political Nigeria is both on the AU Peace and Security Council and the UN Security Council. These are the bodies charged with ensuring peace and security in Africa and in the world. So that is why we cannot afford to see Nigeria slip into any political crisis. “Therefore, all leaders have to act with a sense of responsibility; they have to appeal to their followers to understand that election is not a war. It is about the choice of the people. So, ordinary people of the country of Nigeria, the good people of this country, should be allowed in a free and unhindered atmosphere to express their free will. |
The blood Ijaw youths shed to attract the attention of other Nigerians to consider Dr. Jonathan from our state to be President is not appreciated by the President. “Since he was imposed on the people of Bayelsa to be governor by persons outside the Ijaw tribe, President Jonathan’s loyalty is to the few persons that imposed him. President Jonathan does not see any reason to apologise to the people of Bayelsa State for his neglect of the state. “Therefore any vote for him by Bayelsans is a wasted vote as he can never appreciate us, even in the unlikely event that he wins the presidential election on the 14th of February 2015. “In view of the above reasons, I do not see any rational ground being in PDP even though I was one of those instrumental in positioning his luck from Deputy Governor to President. Therefore, I have decided to declare for the APC and work with reasonable politicians to effect a change of leadership in our country.” Source nijaloaded |

Barely three weeks before next month’s presidential elections, another bigwig of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Senator Felix Oboro, has left the ruling party for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Thisday newspaper report online, Sen Oboro, a member of Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign Committee in Bayelsa, decamped to the APC on Friday. It was disclosed that the senator, who was Nigeria’s former ambassador to Venezuela, was conspicuously absent during the swearing in of members of the presidential campaign committee in Bayelsa by Governor Seriake Dickson. It is understood that Sen Oboro was welcomed to the APC by the leader of the party in Bayelsa, Chief Timipre Sylva. Sen. Oboro on the left. Speaking at the event, Sylva stated that with political leaders leaving the PDP in droves the ruling party was gradually heading for collapse. He also added that besides the insecurity pervading the country, the level of unemployment and poverty was increasing. The former governor insisted that the nation was in dire straights, and only serious-minded people were needed to pilot the affairs of the country. “At a time like this, we need serious men and women at the helm of national affairs. That is why we need Gen. Buhari to fix the country.” On his part, Oboro lamented that the last national and state assembly selection exercises in the PDP destroyed the cohesion of the party throughout the country. Explaining why he left the PDP and joined the APC, Oboro said: “Since Dr. Jonathan became President and leader of the PDP nationwide, there has never been any genuine congress in any part of the PDP states to elect candidates to represent the party in any election.” He added: “The last national and state assembly selection exercises have destroyed the cohesion of the party throughout the country. “The problem of our country now is corruption, insecurity and economic downturn. Everybody’s concern is who among our political leaders particularly Gen Buhari and President Jonathan who are the flag bearers of the two major parties, has the credentials to wipe out the above vices. The answer from 90 per cent of the states is Gen Buhari. “Under President Jonathan, even a simple thing like internal democracy in his party had been destroyed because he too ascended the governorship position through unholy harmonisation and not democracy”. “As for corruption, insecurity and economic downturn, Jonathan’s six years as President is the cause of these problems the country is talking about. Ironically Jonathan himself agrees that these are real problems of the country, when he is still at the helm of affairs. “I would like to appeal to my Ijaw people in Bayelsa State to understand the clear handwriting on the wall and we should all educate our people to tow the popular reasonable line. “Our people must join the mainstream and we should not allow our state to be ostracised. Dr Jonathan has no regard for Ijaw people. He has not shown any pride of being an Ijaw man. The little dividend of democracy he had brought to the state is for his community, Otuoke. “The only way to peaceful change now is for all Ijaw people to obtain their permanent voters card and cast their votes. We should do everything possible to avoid our youths going back to the creeks. After all, some of our leaders are not appreciating the sacrifices of our youths. “Otherwise how can President Jonathan publicly express joy that Henry Okah- an Ijaw man from Amassoma is languishing in a South African prison because MEND attempted to “assassinate” him- an allegation no true Ijaw man will believe. “President Jonathan made his allegation in the opening of his campaign in Lagos. If the President says MEND did not support him does he mean he became president on his personal merit? “The blood Ijaw youths shed to attract the attention of other Nigerians to |

Confirmed report has it from Governor of Lagos state ,that the federal government has instructed the NCC to shut down the sms portal Of APC laugh to generate fund for Buhari campaign which will also boost.our local businesses. I thought they said Mr president entered peace pact with opposition. Is this not politics of desperation from PDP, when the Same Measure was used by Jonathan and sambo to generate fund in 2011? What is the importance of FOI, with the exercise of impunity by Jonathan? What is good for the goose is good for the gander. |
