The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday alarmed the Nigerian security that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plotted to attack their presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Wednesday in Taraba.

According to The Nation, the claim was made by the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation January 27, based on the gathered intelligence.

The body’s Director on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said that thugs would be used to embarrass Buhari’s team.

Therefore Shehu urged the Nigerian security officials to take measures in order to halt anarchy.

The APC also said yesterday in Rivers State that according to the information made available to them, the PDP had another “satanic plot” to tarnish the image of the opposition party by stoning Goodluck Jonathan and putting a blame on the APC.

“According to the plan, which is now in the possession of the APC, huge sums of money and many APC T-shirts will be provided for groups of PDP thugs, who will stone the convoy of Mr. President during the presidential campaign rally of Port Harcourt.

“According to the information, the money and T-shirts will be distributed to the thugs by Tuesday January 27 (yesterday). The idea behind this satanic plot is to paint the APC in bad light before the media, observers and the Nigerian public, as well as to divert attention from the various acts of violence that PDP thugs have unleashed on APC members and property across Rivers State in recent times.

We will continue to abhor electoral violence in whatever form and we will like to call on the PDP and other parties to do the same at all times.”

Nigeria’s major opposition party yesterday blasted Jonathan over not sticking to his promises saying that he is not responsible for his words and “incompetent” for the position of the President.

Kumuyi campaigns against electoral violence

The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, on Monday in Abuja, led a campaign against electoral violence and sensitised youth in the church against violence before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

According to him, it has becomes imperative for the church to ensure that youth in the church are not used by politicians to cause violence during the February polls.

Speaking during the sensitisation programme with theme ‘Let others see Jesus in you’, which was held simultaneously in all locations of the church across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the ex-university teacher said the youth had been a priority in his over 40 years in Christian ministry.

He explained that the youth were the future spiritual and secular leaders of the country.

He said the elections should not be a do-or-die affair as God is the one who raised leaders while only His decision would stand.

Kumuyi said, “As the initiator of the one day sensitising of youth against violence in the church, with the theme, ‘Let others see Jesus in you’, and having a seminar on ‘Fulfilling our duty in times of election’, we as a church, said it is imperative to properly sensitise our youth as the general elections were just some few weeks ahead.

“We want to inculcate good conduct in these young minds and show them what is expected of them before, during and after the elections. We want them to be peaceful and disciplined in their comportment as they go out to vote candidates of their choice on February 14 and 28, 2015.

“The church wants to ensure that youths were not cheaply used by violent politicians that does not mean well for the future of Nigerian youths. We as a church owe these young men and women a lot and forms part of the mandate given to us by God to mentor them in the way of the Lord Jesus Christ, wherefore to tolerate and live peacefully with other youths across the country.”
