Using STARLINK would make you realise how sh!tty our local ISPs are. Having tried MTN fibre or whatever it's called, I can boldly say nothing beats stability. Based on my experience, no local ISP can offer stability remotely close to starlink's. Don't even get me started on the raw speed too.
We live in a world where we need stable and dependable internet. Not even MTN can promise this.
I really hope starlink can make their services more accessible and cheaper, cos on my life, no local network fit compete. |

I've used the two hardwares extensively..... Compared to the Mini, the Gen 3 is faster but not by much. Also, the Gen 3 handles rain fade better. Gen 3 has a better router too (WiFi 6 vs WiFi 5 of the Mini). Gen 3 has higher ceiling (more download throughput) However, your network being poor isn't cos of your hardware (as long as it's not faulty). Trust me, for its size, the Mini is a beast. When I was using my Mini, I got 200-300Mbps. For most users, the Mini is more than capable. I always tell my referrals to go for the Mini due to the huge price difference compared to the standard Gen 3. I "upgraded" to the standard Gen 3 cause I got it for the price of the Mini, without this deal, I woulda stuck with my Mini. Hero2t: Good evening all,
Please is there any noticeable difference in performance between the starlink mini and starlink standard. My network has been really poor lately and I am looking to get starlink.
I appreciate your assistance in advance. |

Even the standard kit price and Mini price are way too expensive for most people in Nigeria. Imo, hardware price shouldn't be more than 100k. Amazon LEO would be stupid not to undercut starlink. senator282: 😂Those guys are not in touch with reality in Nigeria. The performance kit are for billionaires and political elites. |

Unless you're a business owner, Gigabit internet is an overkill. I'm pretty sure MTN's equivalent of Starlink's monthly sub (57k) would only get you around 100Mbps-200Mbps, which is a bad deal compared to starlink. Starlink just need to bring 100Mbps plan to Nigeria. 100Mbps is enough bandwidth for most households. morikee: Too expensive 1gbps plan on fiber at 200k |

At least starlink was upfront with you about their availability. If you can't wait for slots to open, you can try alternatives like MTN fibre. Just make sure their service is usable in your location. Jakarta: Na wa for this starlink oh!! I was trying to place an order, but the whole of Delta state is currently at capacity, as such no residential plan only business plan starting from ₦226k monthly. Weytin man go do now? |

I feel you. Starlink has been expanding their subscription packages. Some countries now have 100Mbps, 200Mbps and Max plans. In fact, starlink leases their hardwares to customers in some countries. I believe very soon we're going to get something similar in Nigeria. Imagine 100Mbps plan @ 20k/25k would be a hit for us. Plus their hardware fee is expensive for most users. Even the Mini at 350k is still expensive. The high hardware and subscription fees should be mostly attributed to the Nigeria's failing economy. Skydiv: Airtel is the worst network among all 3 (MTN, Glo, Airtel) in my area. You can't even load Nairaland's home page with it, Glo takes minutes to load, MTN is hope and pray.
With ODU NL it is taking seconds (not split seconds though) to load. How I wish Glo had something similar to ODU, I would have opted for it.
Buying Starlink is not my major issue for now, the subscription cost is. I intend to secure at least a year's subscription cost somewhere safe. Already have 6 months saved, 6 more to go. |
