Oscars 2019 was held in the early hours of today at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California and from the complete list of winners, it was a night of firsts for many Oscar winners and for the categories in which they won.



The Awards for the first time in 30 years was held without a host, but instead, started with concert-like performance by Adam Lambert and the band Queen and segued into a pseudo monologue featuring Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph.

A major highlight at the event was the surprise win for “Green Book,” which took home the Oscar for best picture, defeating strong competition from “Roma,” “A Star is Born” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

The Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards to Monday, February 11, 2019.

This was made known on INEC's official Twitter page.

The terse statement reads, ”The Collection of PVCs scheduled to end today, Friday 8th February, 2019 is hereby extended Nationwide to Monday 11th February 2019. This will include Saturday and Sunday.”

The Anambra State Police Command have commenced investigation into the cause of the murder-suicide committed by a man identified as Daniel Okafor after bathing his wife, Pauline, with acid on Tuesday at Nsugbe, near Onitsha.

According to reports, the couple had been having disagreement concerning the choice of their son as the next of kin on a land and a house which was recently purchased by the wife.

Pauline, a nurse, bought the properties from her in-law and named their son as next of kin but this didn't go well with her husband who then decided to punish her. Pauline was in her place of work, a drug store, when the husband came in through the fence to bathe her with acid. She then ran out for help.

The suspect reportedly drank some of the chemical he had poured on his wife minutes after committing the crime. He was taken to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.

It was gathered that the victim was also referred to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, from the Immaculate Heart Hospital, Onitsha, where she is currently responding to treatment.

The Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) has asked its former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, to return all the money generated during her short stay in the party or be dragged to court. Ezekwesili had withdrawn from the presidential race on January 24th and according to the party, she hasn't refunded the money generated for her campaign.

The National Chairman of the party, Ganiyu Galadima, made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday February 7th. The party chairman said that from all indications, Ezekwesili did not have the capacity to contest a presidential election.

“We want to know all the contents of the accounts and see the accounts because at the end of the day, it is not the presidential candidate that the Independent National Electoral Commission will hold responsible, but the party, and whatever any candidate generated for his or her campaign belongs to the party. We are expecting that she will respond at the appropriate time but if she doesn’t, we may be compelled to go to court.” he said

Speaking further, Galadinma said

“For somebody who wants to contest for the presidency, all you could generate for period of three months was just N43m and she spent everything. She did not disclose the sources of the fund and how much she generated. 

Look at Omoyele Sowore, he publicly disclosed on a national TV recently that his campaign and the party had been able to generate N99m. In addition, he also told the world how the money could be traced. So why is there no transparency in Madam Ezekwesili’s project? That is the bone of contention. We are expecting that she will respond at the appropriate time but if she doesn’t, we may be compelled to go to court to seek for order of Mandamus''.

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson has revealed that she can never act naked, even if she is offered a huge amount of money.

She made the revelation in an interview with Ghana’s Asempa FM, where she was asked if she can act naked. Stating categorically that she cannot act naked, she also added that she has to set a good example. Especially now that she has a child, she added.
