I was shocked of how little their tax man collects per annum,I'd expect a much richer population to contribute more! There is something funny about their huge exports that it seems they aren't benefitting much from it.

Imagine a country with a 14% tax to gdp ratio lecturing you in anything!
Mkenya2019:
I see you are back to opening many threads. You failed the common sense test of prosperity. It only exist in data. And you produced 5.2M metric tonnes of cement. You peak power demand is 2,500Mw with about half of that going to minning

Cooking data has not helped you wade off IMF from runnin your country for nearly all your years as "independent" country.

But 40% of the Kumasi population lack access to toilets. What's the difference between Kumasi and a slum then?
Just30:
even with the US kind of urbanization

there are still 40 million poor americans

forget about eliminating poverty
its impossible.

But like US, you can make your citizens lives better even when they are poor.
provide good roads, schools, hospitals, job opportunities

a poor person in Ghana can do labour works and put up a three bedroom house for his family.
that is the Ghanaian dream.

whiles you are dreaming

2019, Ghana poverty figure is 20% which is 6 million people.

whiles that of Kenya has increased to 40%

Upload them,no one has stopped you!
Just30:
so economics discussions are now reduced to pictures ?

what backwardness

Fact still remains that ordinary Ghanaians live in better houses
Have better health care
attend better schools.
have better access to services.

when we unload pics and videos
you wont survive

there is a reason why we consume 12M metric tonnes of cement and you consume 5M

this is all that matters

The airline business isn't an easy one.Let's see how Africa countries that have just started or are planning to start their own national carriers will perform.

Again..when they had stopped flying to South Africa. Now their bought in cash dreamliners will have to fly domestically within TZ.The slowpoke first business would have been to clear previous debt..not go around it
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 9:06am On Nov 23, 2019
It all has to do with the financial muscles of the companies of the two countries.
Austine1212:
South African companies are reinvesting more into their investments. Kenya invest in many small projects, SA invest large money into projects.
Foreign AffairsRe: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Jonraid(m): 8:34am On Nov 23, 2019
I may not have the latest data but Kenya was Africa's largest investor in terms of project numbers in 2016 as per the report by Earnest & Young. Whereas we beat South Africa in the number of projects, they beat us in the project values. They invested 2 billion dollars while we invested a billion dollars in other African countries. I think we are up there amongst biggest Africa to Africa FDI sources/intra-Africa FDI sources. Our companies are expanding and investing in other African markets.

A rebasing of gdp last year has flattered the country’s balance-sheet. Ghana’s debt-to-gdp ratio, which hit 73% in 2016, looks quite tame this year at 62% (it would have been 76% under the old gdp measure).

But simply changing the estimated size of the economy does not magically bring in more tax. Interest payments still consume one-third of government revenues, which is more than it spends on education or health. Increasing the amount raised in taxes will be tough, because most of the economy is informal. The imf notes that taxes make up a smaller share of gdp(14% in Ghana) than in most other developing countries and classifies it as being at “high risk of debt distress”.

Investors are also wary and demand much higher interest rates to hold Ghana’s foreign-currency bonds compared with Nigeria’s or Kenya’s.

Ghana rebased their GDP to tame the debt to GDP ratio!
