TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 14 by JoseJonn(f): 12:03am On Jun 03, 2018
Ratawu:
Many applications for a temporary visa (TRV) to Canada are rejected because the applicants don’t have bonds strong enough to make them return to the home country.

The form letter of refusal from Canada also advises against re-applying unless the applicant has some new evidence. Since most applicants have done the best job they can with the first application, and have no new evidence to offer, so they give up.

An acquaintance who works wit VOs in a Canadian embassy has a different take on this: apparently it CAN be useful to immediately re-apply, with the same application and same evidence. Here`s why.

The average VO has something like 45 seconds to assess each application for a TRV. Why so many applications? Partly because travel agencies will submit multiple applications for a single client to many countries, hoping for at least one approval out of the many refusals.

So the overworked VO will routinely refuse applications unless there is a compelling reason to approve. But if the applicant re-submits, challenging the VO’s reasoning in a cover letter, but essentially drawing the VO’s attention to the strong evidence already presented in the original application, then the VO has to pay more serious attention, and the chances of approval rise significantly. Essentially the applicant is taking his application out of the big pile of applications in the first in-basket and putting it in the smaller pile for special VO consideration.

At least that’s what my “insider source” says. So, if you want a TRV, apply early, giving yourself enough time to re-apply. If you really want to make the best case, give yourself time to get the CAIPS notes after the first refusal, then address those VO concerns in the new cover letter.
Apt!!!

Sassandra:
ASK YOURSELF ONE SIMPLE QUESTION; Why do I want this masters in this University in this Country?!

I have been a silent observer of this thread and I’m not happy with a lot of things I’ve been seeing. Lots of people are plying into these “dead” schools thinking they can “finally leave Nigeria” and “finally achieve their dreams”. No boss, think again.

The only reason why people should consider an MSc is simple; to get access to a network from that masters for what ever reason it is that you want. For instance, if you’re working and you want to change your industry, or if you want to change geography (e.g. Nigeria to Canada), then a “good” MSc is perfect for that because you’d get access to a career center and the “access” that’ll give you that platform to achieve the desired career or geographical change you’re looking for.

So at the end of the day, we should ask ourselves, why do I want this masters sef ?
For me personally, I am pursuing a masters because I want more global exposure and I want a change geographically. There are other options I can take to getting what I want obviously. I can decide to stay in Nigeria and finish my professional qualification, then do an MBA and leave. But I want to leave as soon as possible so an MSc is a better option for me.

If someone wants to work in Nigeria and is finding it hard in getting a job, don’t think a masters abroad would solve that problem automatically. You need networks (which you can find for free on LinkedIn), you need trainings (e.g. industry certifications like ICAN or ACCA). You can even decide to apply to Edubridge. Edubridge trains undergraduates and graduates for investment banking and consulting jobs. They bring in a lot of industry leaders and you can use that platform to network to get a job. You can also use the brand “Edubridge” to secure a couple of interviews

If someone comes to tell me that they want to do their masters in Nigeria, CU for instance, for the sake of being more employable, I’d advise them to print their CV and go from company to company, code email and interact with people on LinkedIn, enroll in Edubridge and get reputable industry certifications that'll make them more attractive. Something would surely click, rather than going to spend c. 1 million naira in a school that won’t even give you any “access” to Broad Street or Adeola Odeku, where all the financial companies are, or Ikeja, the hub of technology in Nigeria. Unilag is even better in terms of “access” to Broad Street or Adeola Odeku because they have a very strong alumni presence in that area. (Please note: I am not endorsing an MSc in Unilag)

If you fall among the category of people that want to use an MSc for the *sole* purpose of making your cv more “ghen-ghen”, then you should reconsider it. For instance, If you work in McKinsey, you already have like 95/100 points in terms of CV ghenghen-ness, and there’s no point in leaving your job to do a masters that’ll only increase your CV ghenghen-ness from the 95 it currently is in to a 98 (it can never be greater than 100). Besides, only a few schools can do that, think HBS and Warton.

If you fall among the category of people whose main purpose for a masters is for employability in Nigeria, all you have to do is to find out what your employer is looking for. More often than not, it’s not an international masters they’re looking for. Many of them are looking for experience, many of them are looking for industry certifications. That international masters may not necessarily give you the network to securing a job in your home country. LinkedIn is waay better for that and very much more cost effective.

If you fall among the category of people that want to use an MSc to re-brand themselves. Maybe you didn’t do too well in Undergrad, or you went to a very dead Nigerian University. An MSc is great for that, however, APPLY TO THE BEST SCHOOL YOUR PROFILE CAN AFFORD! Don’t you want the best for yourself?

Last but definitely not the least, If you fall among the category of people that want to use an MSc to run away, say you wan marry and get citizenship, then your case is special. If youre using a “dead school”, good luck with creating a compelling story that you can sell to the VO’s. You think those guys be mumu?

Many people here are looking for shortcuts, you don’t want to write GRE and TOEFL but you want to get admitted with full funding and you also want to secure a mad job upon graduation? Bros how far na? You no hustle but you won chop fufu?. If your input is mediocrity, your output will surely be mediocrity.

“We see better when we stand on the shoulders of those that have gone ahead of us”. This is why we have nairaland but its just turning more and more mediocre with the schools that are being mentioned here daily. Please lets shoot higher shots!
Hello hanti pls what do u mean by dead schools? I'm not clear with that biko. Or better still give a list of them here.

Hello house, thumbs to everyone here you guys are doing a great job helping others.
I really need your help here. .
I got an admission to study physics, University of Winnipeg I applied for my study permit earlier this year around March but I was refused. It was stated in the refusal letter that
* I am not satisfied you will leave Canada based on your travel history
* I am not satisfied you will leave based on yur family ties in Canada and country of residence.

Documents I submitted
Birth certificate
Sponsorship letter from my mom
Employment verification from where I work
Leave approval letter
My mother's work ID and promotion letter
Property valuation doc of about 10m
Name and DOB correction in newspaper
Waec result
Admission and standardised letter from school
Testimonial
Passport
Copy of my work ID
Personal bank statement with 300K
Diploma in Printing technology certificate
Sponsors bank statement with 20M
SOP..... ( here I stated that I have 2-3 years In Printing and I work as a computer operator/graphics designer.... and I'm leaving this field to study physics in Canada because this will help me solve some problems facing my community and create employment for other youths.)

So I went for my GCMS notes, and it stated this in the 36th page of the gcms notes.

*After careful review of the application and supporting documents provided, program of study in Canada does not appear to be consistent with previous level of study and employment history. Applicant appears to have limited relevant/recent travels which could demonstrate a history of having travelled and returned. Based on the evidence provided, I am not satisfied applicant is a genuine student who intends to complete the course of study in Canada and would depart at the end of the authorised stay....

PLEASE HOUSE WHAT DO I DOhuhhuhhuh
Hi dear, sorry about your delay...
The main issue is your purpose of visit. This application would have flew if u had put in a course in line with ur recent ecperience. That's where the issue began. Why not pick a course related to ur recent work or educational history?
Did u submit birth certificate of ur parents, marriage cert, birth certificate of siblings?
How convincing and explanatory was ur SOP?
Travel history will be tacked if these other issues are addressed.

All the best.

[quote author=Phocusjosh post=68066806]Family ties can be tackled with Birth certificates of siblings, marriage certificate of parents and as well write about your family like the love and how you intend to return to your family after your studies. Then purpose of visit can be well tackled with a good SOP by detailing your passion for computer information tech, educate the VO how maths and statistics relates well wit your intended course of study and explain into details the economic benefits of studying computer info tech. What is the economic opportunity you are trying to create and harness?
Please be as specific as possible.

What is your current job role and how does it relate with your course of study and link it with your long term goal. Why study leave for a 2-years program?? Hope your affidavit of return won't deter you from applying for PGWP after your PGD?

2page SOP (was vetted it by a trusted guru) this is totally wrong and won't make someone else be willing to go through SOP, take full responsibility of the outcome of your application.

All the best in your next application and ensure you request for GCMS note.

A quick one! The birth certificate should be from NPC national population commission that's what CIC recongises u can do it at alagbon passport office area. Photocush nice one, u killed it! Very insightful.
You are fully responsible for the outcome of ur application, your SOP is the only interview u will have with d VO.. It shld be comprehensive and explanatory as d VO can only guess. Even if a guru revamped ur SOP.. No one can modify it more than u will. U will get it right this time

All the best.
