The coronaV outbreak in South East Asia has been linked to a 4-day prayer meeting in Malaysia.

Attended by 16,000 people including 1,500 foreigners, but unknown to them, as they prayed shoulder-to-shoulder on golden prayer mats inside the mosque, the virus was passing among them.

Sadly and expectedly, prayers didn't prevent the virus.

As they left for their various countries, the virus was happy to escort them, spreading across the vast South East Asia terrain.

Out of Malaysia's 673 confirmed infections, nearly two-thirds have been linked to this four-day meeting.

What I find disturbing about this Aljazeera report is that Nigerians were in attendance at the meeting but no news has been heard about quarantines for any passengers from Malaysia.

Stay in your houses and pray. Avoid large gatherings. Let no church blackmail you.

I'm happy to quote this scripture if it will help persuade, Acts 7:48, "the Most High does not dwell in buildings made by human hands..."

We don't have to wait for large confirmations before taking personal precautions.

Or what is the point of our education and global interconnectivity if we can't learn from the painful experiences of others?

Report has it that more than 65,000 people have recovered from the Coronavirus in China. But guess what? None of them was treated with anointing oil or zamzam water. But some retards are shouting science has failed humanity.

How about we shutting down all laboratories and use the money for medical research to recruit more prayer warriors, since it's only God that can take us out of this quagmire?

A NOIPolls reveals that 26% of Nigerians think they are immune to coronaV.

When asked why, majority of them (40%) said it's because "I am a child of God."

Religion is dangerous not just to believers but to all of us living among them.

CORONAVIRUS: LET'S PRAY

They will tell you that prayer unlocks knowledge. And God desires that prayers be made before solutions are given by him.

Prayer doesn’t unlock any knowledge. This is a fallacious statement that doesn’t make any sense.

If prayer unlocks knowledge then everyone who has ever discovered or created something would only be those who pray, but the evidence shows that’s not true, because anyone who commits and searches for solutions discovers something over time.

Believers need to stop attributing prayer to anything near objective discoveries and outcome. It’s disingenuous.

The National day of prayer announced by the White House for Sunday was the most useless thing to ever do to tackle this issue.

Italy is the “home” of the pinnacle of Christianity - with a Pope that prayers nearly every moment of every day.

Have you seen its current state now?

It seems to me that those who are on the side of this inane argument are willing to discount the loss of lives, the death and destruction that is right within the other side of this claim people on the side of your argument make.

It’s very unfortunate.

GOD GIVES KNOWLEDGE

As God fails to protect the world against coronavirus I see God believers turn to the 'Knowledge' argument. The argument goes like this: Science is a product of knowledge. That knowledge is granted by God.

This is the usual cop out. And it's silly.

Firstly, let’s set aside the fact that this is not how knowledge works, and also the fact that this claim is utterly narcissistic - I mean, why didn’t this knowledge help people when Black Death killed 200 million people between 1346-1353?

HIV AIDS has killed 36 million people worldwide INCLUDING newborn babies, who we can’t blame for “fornication” or whatever religious excuse they’d use for why we have HIV.

That being said, believers seem to not fully grasp the implication of what they say. Because by claiming that knowledge comes from the “most high God”, they’re also saying that God is deliberately hiding the knowledge to deal with this virus, letting thousands die and hundreds of thousands infected.

Even so, despite the fact that people are currently praying to him, he will let more people be infected, economies crash leading to more poverty, people would lose their loved ones and families would go hungry, all because this God want us to “find” where he kept the knowledge to create vaccines.

Would they like to HONESTLY tell us what would be the best description for someone who chooses this part?

What better way for God to show he exists than making sure that his children are uninfected by coronavirus?

But what do we have:

- Saudi Arabia has cancelled all pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina.

- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints suspends all worship services worldwide due to coronavirus.

- DeLand church closes after member tests positive for coronavirus.

- Rome Catholic Churches Ordered Closed Due to Coronavirus, Unprecedented in Modern Times.

What does these all teach us?

It is when you expect God to show up that he never does.

You need him to help you pass a simple exam, something you can do all by yourself, you attribute the success to him.

But if you need him to cure a global pandemic, he never shows up.

Adults should be wiser than this.

"Once David recovers the ark and celebrates its restoration, the pageant on the way to the capital is struck by a mysterious and disturbing calamity. One of the oxen pulling the cart that bears the ark stumbles and a man named Uzzah, fearing for the ark, reaches out and holds it to ensure it does not fall. Instantly God strikes him down.

What do we make of this story? Some have attributed it to the incorrect means of transporting the ark—it should be carried by poles on the affixed rings and on the shoulders of the Levites, not loose in a wagon (cf. Num. 7:9).

Others see the ark as a box charged with divine energy that cannot be touched. Still others see this as an example of the titanic peevishness of a God who slays at whim.

Theologically, we can take note of the insight of Rav Kook, twentieth-century scholar and mystic, who pointed out that it was the oxen that stumbled. Uzzah should have steadied the animals, not the ark. Kook sees this as a paradigm of those who seek to change God’s word to suit the challenges of the world instead of seeking to right the problems in accord with the law.

However homiletic, Kook’s interpretation is one more indication of the profoundly mysterious, troubling nature of the episode."

What often baffles is our level of selective amnesia and lack of awareness.

The people who gave lengthy predictions at the turn of the year without mentioning the possibility of a disease outbreak...

Who have said Divine Mercy was what had stopped us from being ravaged by coronavirus like it's happened at godless China...

Now that the disease is amongst us, these same people have turned around to say Special Prayer Sessions are necessary to avert widespread nationwide infections.

And no one is saying, 'hol'up, something is not adding up here. This cannot be correct'.

What about the yeye people who said Allah was punishing China for her maltreatment of Muslims? Nonsense and divine punishment!

If this is not brainwashing, I don't know what else is.

Pope Francis took in ill after having contact with the coronavirus patients in church service last Sunday..

Iran has banned religious gathering and no Jumat congregation prayers till further notice.

Saudi Arabia has suspended umrah and hajj pilgrimage.

Since Coronavirus is now confirmed in Nigeria, one of the best measures is that the Nigerian government to ban religious gathering and close all schools in Nigeria for 4 weeks to monitor the trend of the infection and sensitise people on what to do and where to report to in each local council in Nigeria.

SOME HUMANS

Some humans are fully sure the world is flat. Some are convinced the universe is 6,000 years old. Most are certain death is the beginning of a new life that will never end.

Millions have absolutely no doubts that after they die they will have more sex with more beautiful young women than they could ever imagine during life.

The great majority are completely confident that an invisible man knows their thoughts, watches them 24/7 and can be persuaded to use his magic powers to help them, if they ask in just the right way.

Humans, not as smart as you think.

"...David and Goliath trade imprecations and then David lets his stone fly. Unerringly hitting the one place on Goliath not covered by armor, the stone strikes his forehead and the giant falls forward.

This apparent violation of physics—the force should have driven him back—has given interpreters some trouble. Perhaps he stumbled and fell forward."

~ David Wolpe's "David - A Divided Heart"

The problem with Christians is that they assume an unchallenged position and then interpret everything from that standpoint.

Look at this situation of Goliath for instance.

If you start from the position that the Bible is always correct, all you have to do is perform gymnastics to ensure the Bible is not made out a liar.

That's the only way anyone could default to saying that Goliath must have fallen forward and give several explanations like Goliath staggering for a moment and then fell on his face.

Or that the rock struck Goliath that it spun him around and then he fell upon his face.

Verbal gymnastics. grin

"When Samuel quite reasonably protests that King Saul will seek to kill him if he finds out he is on his way to anoint the new king, God instructs Samuel to lie: “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord’” (1, 16:2).

A white lie, to be sure. A lie to preserve a life. Still, it is worth noting that David is anointed in a cloud of mild deception."

"I believe in God."

"OK. How many gods have men worshiped?"

"I don't know. Probably thousands."

"That's true. Do you believe only one of them is real?"

"Yes. The others are invented."

"So, if you randomly pick a god, what are the chances it is the real one?"

"I see where you're going, but I didn't randomly pick a god."

"Do you believe in the same god your family believes in?"

"Yes..."

"Did you pick your family because they believe in the real god?"

"Of course not."

"So it was chance you were born into that family and not a different one. That's random isn't it?"

"I suppose so."

"So, if you randomly pick a god, what are the chances it is the real one?"

"Well, it would be one in a few thousand but my god is real."

"If you were born into a different family with a different god, wouldn't you say the same thing?"

"Umm, I suppose so."

"So, if you randomly pick a god, what are the chances it is the real one?"

"F*ck off!"

WHY GOD CANNOT BOIL AN EGG

Religious people think God can create a universe from nothing but they know he can't mow a lawn. He can cure cancer but can't boil an egg.

I sometimes wonder why people think God can do impossibly hard things when they know he cannot do the simplest things a child could do. Why do we think God can do some things but not others?

It seems that God CANNOT do anything that has a fully predictable outcome. We know how to boil an egg but leave the egg, saucepan, and water out for God to do the job and it will never happen.

However, we do not know how to cure a common cold. Colds almost always get better but we cannot predict exactly when you will recover. That is where God comes in.

There is a place for God in any process that we do not fully understand or that has an outcome that can be predicted only as a probability. There's a 99.98% probability of driving safely from Lusaka to Ndola so that's a job for God. And guess what? Pray to God for a safe journey and he'll take care of you 99.98% of the time. Perfect, God works!

No, God does not work. Self-deception works--if you let it.

"...Personally I like the idea of descending not from brutal world-conquerors, but from insignificant people who seldom poked their noses into other people’s business.

Many religions praise the value of humility – but then imagine themselves to be the most important thing in the universe. They mix calls for personal meekness with blatant collective arrogance. Humans of all creeds would do well to take humility more seriously.

And among all forms of humility, perhaps the most important is to have humility before God. Whenever they talk of God, humans all too often profess abject self-effacement, but then use the name of God to lord it over their brethren."

While chatting with a friend one day, we saw a rat trying to navigate it's way to a gutter via a busy road with car, tricycle and heavy pedestrian traffic. At first, we thought the rodent wouldn't make it. But like Maradona dribbling through the English team in 1986, it meandered it's way to safety, oblivious of the many dangers it just surmounted. We were so intrigued that I and my friend gave the 'Usain Rat Bolt' a standing ovation.

And then it hit us.

Our daily tussles is reminiscent of the rat's struggle. Not in the sense that we scavenge through dumpsters and gutters hoping to pick up a morsel to live on for the day (well, some of us do, sadly), but in the sense that there are numerous impending dangers we're simply not aware of. Actions and inactions of humans (alongside other factors like nature and machines) create events with reactions that might bode well or otherwise for you. Humanity has come a long way in a short while. In circa 2000 years, we went from wandering for food and living in caves to flying in the air, building skyscrapers and splitting atoms. But we're still very much susceptible to the uncertainties of life. We might have devised means to kill cancerous cells with chemotherapy, but we can't tell who's next to have cancerous cells growth. We might have built luxurious and fast cars but we can't stop accidents. We might study and classify most organisms but we can't easily predict or combat deadly virus outbreaks. We might fly at high attitudes but we can't stop plane crashes yet.

The usual reaction to unfortunate events is to posit that it's the "will of God". This is not only hilarious, but counterproductive. It's hard to imagine a God who sits on its celestial throne and dishes out orders like "Give Steve cancer, make Tony die in an accident and then help Emy win the lottery. Meanwhile, start a wild fire in Australia and get them frozen viruses released to China!". I doubt we would have come this long way with our inventions and contraptions if people crossed them legs and cry "it's the will of God" when faced with bad circumstances. It's a mindset that automatically forecloses seeking out remedies. If Cancer is the will of God, why chemotherapy?

The business of life is not easy. According to Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything, 99.9% of species that have ever lived HAS GONE EXTINCT. Life is not fair, really. Having this in mind will not stop unfortunate things from happening. But it will guide us to be more careful in the course of living and to also think of solutions, remedies and fixes as much as we can, should things go wrong.
