Hmm a year

The Lekki Concession Company has given notice to users of the Lekki-Ikoyi Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos, that it will no longer accept cash payment at the toll plaza from 2020.

A banner at the bridge loudly states: “No more cash payment @Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge Toll Plaza, Wednesday 1st January 2020”.

There has been no official statement by the company about the planned migration to electronic payment.

During a visit to the plaza, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had said that the tolling system would go completely electronic in October.


However, in November, the company upgraded its tolling systems at both the Link Bridge and the Admiralty Plaza on Lekki-Epe Expressway. It said the upgrade was to enable it to serve the public better by enhancing and modernizing service delivery at the Plazas.

During the upgrade, electronic passages at the Toll Plazas and the online payment platforms were impacted from 9th – 15th November, 2019. The upgrade migrated customers’ toll accounts, such as e-Tag, Swift Pass, to the newly installed system.

Report emanating from Anambra State says officials of the Nigeria Police Force have stormed the home of Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer to the founder, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Unconfirmed report says two people have been shot dead in an attempt to capture Ejiofor, who just buried his brother few days ago.

Images on twitter showed a police officer in a compound aiming to shoot, while people were protesting at the compound.


Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, tweeted that he had just been informed that the home of Ejiofor, in Oraifite, Anambra state has been stormed by the police and that four people have been killed.

“Just been informed that the home of my friend and brother, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, in Oraifite, Anambra state has been stormed by the police and 4 people have been killed. Ifeanyi, who is @MaziNnamdiKanu ‘s, buried his brother 4 days ago. His family are still mourning and now this,” he tweeted.

Veteran Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade was conferred with a doctorate degree at the prestigious Igbinedion University for recognition of her works in the Nigerian arts industry.

It is worth noting that several Nigerian celebrities have been getting such honorary doctorate degrees based on their monetary donations to the academic institutions and universities but unlike those kind of honorary degrees, the degree received by Omotola Jalade was witnessed by the country's ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan and his wife.

It was also witnessed by the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki and many royal and traditional rulers.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday received the Emir of Daura, Umar Farouk Umar; and other Daura title holders at his Daura country home.

One of the officers of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, identified as Mr. Ola Oyesina was Saturday evening hacked to death by mob around Igamu area of Lagos State.

Recall that similar incident happened in Apapa area of the state about two years ago.

According to LASTMA source, the victim was attacked tat about 5.pm during the course of sanitising Iganmu-Sifax area of gridlock.

“A large stone was thrown at him and he immediately fell. He was brought to Area “B” Police Command, Apapa.

Due to the trauma, victim was immediately referred to Randle Hospital, Surulere before he was later rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idiaraba for further treatment following severe injuries sustained.

The officer it was learnt later gave up the ghost late Saturday evening at the Emergency Section of LUTH.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Bayo Sulaimon ordered for the detention of two suspects arrested involved in the attack.

Chris Brown has revealed the interesting name he gave to his son. The 30-year-old singer took to Instagram to reveal the name of the newborn baby boy he welcomed with ex-girlfriend Ammika Harris, 26, by sharing a photo of himself.

He made the revelation as he posted the nickname of his five-year-old daughter Royalty followed by the name of his new child as he wrote in caption: 'RORO & AEKO(ECHO)'

Chris made sure to show off his Supreme x Fox Team Racing gloves as he scrolled through his phone with his mouth agape.


He also wore a Dickies jacket with embroidery including 'RORO & AEKO' and 'hostile takeover' on it.

The child was born on Wednesday, with the singer celebrating the news by posting the date - 11-20-19 - to his Instagram Stories.

According to a report by Sun News, there was a stampede at the popular Eke -Ukwu Owerri market at the weekend when some officials of the Nigeria Custom service from Federal Operations Unit (FOU) zone C, Owerri allegedly invaded the market in search of contraband rice.

A trader who do not want his name mentioned told our correspondent that the traders in the market were wary of the invasion of their stalls , because according to the source, some victims from other markets in the state had reliably informed them.

“When we had they were coming, everybody started running helter skelter, we ran in different directions, we don’t know where they were coming from, some us were wounded as a result of the fear of the custom carrying our goods away.

The source continued “before they came we have been told by some of our friends from other markets that they came to their shops and carried their rice away”

However, when Sun News accosted the state chairman of Grains Association of Nigeria, who declined mentioning his name, he confirmed invasion of the custom at various markets in the state.

According to him, the custom officials had earlier swooped on the traders at Relief , Stadium lane, Naze, Alaba and some major streets in the state where rice is sold.

He alleged that the officials while carting away their rice had claimed that the order to impound them came from the Presidency.

So far, he claimed that over 400 rice tagged contraband were impounded from the traders in Owerri market.

When our correspondent went round the market to verify if the contraband rice are still in stock , unfortunately, the traders had perfected plans of selling them in secrets.

“If you want Thailand and Cap rice, there price are different, we sell for N27, 000 per bag but we don’t display it for everybody to see because of the custom officials” The source said.

However, when contacted, the FOU zone C Public Relation Officer, Chioma Onuoha said she is not competent to speak on the matter.

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has accused the immediate past governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, of paying himself N360 million from the state pension funds shortly before he left office.

The governor said this in Wednesday while assenting to a law stopping jumbo allowances for former governors, deputies, speakers and their deputies in the state.

The Speaker of the state House Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya, and other principal officers of the House had brought a bill before the governor for assent.

Matawalle, while assent the bill, said, “If you could remember former governor Yari had sent a letter to me demanding that his N10 million monthly upkeep allowances be paid and he was even threatening to take me to court should I fail to pay the money.

“I called my deputy, the state assembly speaker and his deputy and asked them whether they need such mind-boggling allowances and they all answered in negative. Then, we decided to repeal the law backing the payment and I have assented to it.

“Our successors will not find it easy to come up with such obnoxious law to pillage the little resources of the state in the future. There is no reason whatsoever the state could afford to pay the past leaders a whopping sum of N702 million annually to the detriment of dying pensioners in the state,” Matawalle said.

“It is on the record that the backlog of pension and gratuity for local government workers and primary school teachers left behind by Abdulaziz Yari’s administration stands at N3billion while that of the state government retired civil servants also stands at N3billion. “What moral justification could be offered for such a Jumbo package for a select few when the social index has consistently indicated that the majority of our population lives in abject poverty?” he queried.

According to the governor, for anyone to become governor or attain any top position in the state, or means they were already financially well to do.
