Crime / Herdsmen Destroy Farms In Osun Villages by Jossy4luv1(m): 10:14pm On Jan 29, 2018
Some Fulani herdsmen have destroyed crops worth millions of naira in two communities in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State .
One of the farms in Oki village is owned by a lecturer at the Department of Business Administration at The Polytechnic, Imesi Ile , Mr . Patrick Olaniyan, while the rampaging herdsmen also destroyed the cassava plantation belonging Joseph Osundare in Uro village .
Olaniyan, who narrated how he had been incurring losses for sometimes from the destructive activities of the herders said the suspected Fulani herdsmen led their animals into his farm where he planted yam and destroyed everything .
He said , “I was away in Ibadan when this happened . All the heaps of yam that I planted were eaten by the cattle and the herders . The yam was ready for harvest and I was just waiting for the appropriate time to harvest it and take everything the market but this is what they have done .
“A similar incident happened in October and I went to report to the leader of the Hausa / Fulani community in Imesi Ile . He just promised that he would talk to the cattle rearers to stop driving their cattle into my farm . But how long will I continue to suffer these kinds of losses .
“I was about to harvest the yam and they drove their animals there and destroyed everything . The cattle ate most of it and I think their herders removed the remaining and carted them away .
“They also visited the farm of the vice principal of the secondary school inside The Polytechnic. The man had an accident and was hospitalised, still these people went to his farm and destroyed all his crops .
“How will Nigerians be encouraged to invest in crop production with this type of destruction and they do it all over the country . Fulani people would come here and drive us out of the farms yet the government has not seen anything wrong in it. ”
Our correspondent also gathered that the herdsmen also extended destruction to the plantain farm of one of the princes in Imesi, Samuel Ajiboye .
Another resident of the town, Kayode Oguntola , told our correspondent that the herders had adopted a strategy of destroying farms in a community and then flee to avoid being arrested .

Politics / [BREAKING] Court Nullifies Installation Of 21 Kings By Gov Ajimobi by Jossy4luv1(m): 5:24pm On Jan 19, 2018
An Oyo State High Court presided over by Justice Olajumoke Aiki on Friday declared the review of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration and other Related Chieftaincies in Ibadan land by the Justice Akintunde Boade Review Commission, which was set up by the Oyo State Government, as unconstitutional, illegal, null, void and of no effect.

The commission had recommended, among others, the creation of several monarchs in Ibadan which led to the installation of 21 kings by the state Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

But the Osi Olubadan of Ibadan land, Rashidi Ladoja, challenged the composition and recommendations of the commission in court, joining Ajimobi as co-defendant.

While delivering judgment, Aiki held that wearing of beaded crowns is beyond the purview of sections 10, 12 and 25 of the Oyo State Chiefs Law, stating that Section 25 of the Chiefs Law could not be treated in isolation to the provisions of Parts Two and Three of the Chiefs Laws.

The court also said provisions of Parts Two and Three of the Chiefs Laws, particularly sections 10, 12 and 25, did not give power to the governor to review the Olubadan chieftaincy declaration, while also restraining the government from accepting and implementing the reports of the commission.

Education / Return My Passport, Ex-vc Tells EFCC by Jossy4luv1(m): 7:24am On Jun 08, 2017
the immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Prof. Anthony Elujoba, has demanded the release  of his Nigerian passport seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigating some allegations of fraud in the university.

Elujoba made the demand on Wednesday while handing over to the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, at the university.

Elujoba whose speech was continually applauded by the workers and students of the university said he did not steal a dime of the university, stressing that instead he donated his personal cash to the endowment fund of the university.

The EFCC had invited Elujoba and the bursar of the university in December 2016 for the payment of hazard allowance totalling about N1bn to academic and non-academic members of staff of the university.

Elujoba said he did not steal any money from the university or anybody and regretted the continued confiscation of his travel document, thereby preventing him from traveling out of the country.

“As for the EFCC, I must say that I am seriously handicapped by inaccessibility of my passport presently in their hands and which I need for my various intellectual assignments frequently as an international herbal scientist. I have not stolen one kobo of anybody rather I donated personal cash,” he said.
