Crime / Civil Defence Corp Shoots Boy, Over Fuel by Jossy4luv1(m): 11:05pm On Apr 06, 2016 |
…..eyewitnesses said the Commander of the team
who felt that the boy was resisting arrest, ordered
a female official to shoot the “Bastard” and the
woman obeyed his order and shot him…..
The fuel lingering crisis has claimed lives as a
female staff of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corp (NSCDC) shot dead a boy and
another unidentified person at the AP Filling
Station 21, Road, FESTAC Town.
The boy was alleged to have bought fuel in jerry
cans and was going home when he was accosted
by a team of civil Defense officials who arrested
him.
The boy who should be about 18- years- old was
said to have laid down on the road pleading with
the corps members to allow him to go home as
he was not a fuel hawker but had just bought the
fuel for personal use.
Eyewitnesses said the Commander of the team
who felt that the boy was resisting arrest, ordered
a female official to shoot the “Bastard” and the
woman obeyed his order and shot him.
On seeing the boy dying in the pool of his blood,
the corps members zoomed off in their patrol van
and ran away.
As at press time, men of the enhanced military
patrol tagged ‘OP Mesa’ and the Nigeria Police
led by the FESTAC Police Station Divisional Police
Officer (DPO), Monday Agbonika were on the
ground, making sure that angry mob did not take
laws into their hands.
The angry sympathisers had attempted to set the
filling station and some petrol tankers ablaze but
were prevented by the security operatives.
A senior Police officer who spoke on the condition
of anonymity said the killing of the young boy
was unwarranted
“Why should they kill the boy? I think, the Civil
Defence corps doesn’t know when to use
firearms. They don’t even have regulation on
firearms usage.”
Lagos State police command spokesman, Dolapo
Badmos who confirmed the incident told The
Guardian that the police was investigating the
matter with a view of fishing out the Civil Defence
personnel who committed the act and prosecuting
them in the law court.
“One person was shot dead while three others
were severely injured. The area commander Area
E is on ground restoring normalcy while the
command has commenced investigation to
identify the civil defence operatives that were
involved” Badmos said
However, attempt to set Forte Oil on fire was
prevented by teams of policemen deployed from
both the FESTAC Police Division and the Area E
Police Command.

were severely injured. The area commander Area

Sports / EGYPT VS NIGERIA: Luck Is Part Of Football by Jossy4luv1(m): 8:50pm On Mar 29, 2016 |
Today's match between Nigeria and Egypt where
Nigeria lost by a goal really showed that 'good
luck' is part of football and should be prayed for.
Nigeria played better than Egypt and they still
lost. It must be noted that Nigeria almost won
Egypt last week but they conceded a goal lately
to deny them a win. |

Politics / Osun Govt. To Sack 204 Academic, Non-academic Staff Of Tertiary Institutions by Jossy4luv1(m): 3:41am On Jan 13, 2016 |
No fewer than 204 academic and non-academic staff in Osun state-owned tertiary institutions will be disengaged from service, according to the provosts and rectors of colleges of education and polytechnics. The provosts and rectors made this known on Tuesday when they appeared before the Osun House Assembly on Tuesday in Osogbo. They said the staff would be disengaged on grounds of redundancy, inappropriate qualification, disciplinary matters and poor personnel records, among others. According to data obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), about 100 academic and 104 non-academic staff will be affected. Dr Sola Agboola, the Rector of the State Polytechnic, Iree, said that about 22 academic staff and 46 non-academic staff would be affected at his institution. Similarly, Dr Augustus Oke, the Provost, College of Education, Esa-Oke, said that 15 teaching staff and 10 non-teaching staff would be affected in the college. Mr Kadir Adegoke, Provost of Ilesha College of Education, said 17 teaching staff and 22 non- teaching staff would be affected in his institution. while the Provost of Ila College of Education, Mr Clement Akanni, put the number to be affected in his institution at 46 teaching and 26 non- teaching staff. Akanni, said the exercise was not intended to witch-hunt but anybody but aimed at improving the standard of education in the state. The officials said that the state government was not part of the disengagement plan, stressing that it was the decision of the governing councils. Menwhile, Mr Najeem Salaam, the Speaker of the assembly, has directed management of the institutions to stop the distribution of the sack letters until the concludes its investigation. Salaam said the assembly stood for justice and would investigate the matter before reaching a conclusion. “Justice has been our watchword in this assembly and we promise to continue to always be on the side of the citizens. “No innocent person will be punished unjustly as we are ready to get to the root of the matter.’’ Salaam directed the provosts and rectors of the institutions to submit the files of the sacked staff to the assembly for investigation. He also directed them to submit the files of the management staff to the assembly for verification and assessment. news.bestnaira.com/posts/view/osun-govt-to-sack-204-academic-non-academic-staff-of-tertiary-institutions |

Politics / Gov-elect Cannot Sit Down To Eat by Jossy4luv1(m): 9:49pm On May 03, 2015 |
Even though he has been declared the Governor-elect of Tafki State Barmu Dakatsalle has been unable to sit down and enjoy it because of my refusal to telephone him and concede. His wives had planned a big party and invited musicians from all over Tafki State to come and perform in front of their house but Barmu stopped the party, saying things are still brewing underground. Since then he has been running helter skelter asking every important community and religious leader in the state to plead with me to concede. The day he heard that two SANs were seen in my house, people said he almost fell down from his chair. He is so afraid of what will happen when I go to the election petition tribunal. He is like the chick who cannot find a place to sit down and eat his food. Obviously at Barmu’s prompting, the Tafki Council of Elders sent a strong delegation to plead with me to concede to Barmu in order to give peace a chance. Another delegation of Muslim clerics also came, saying I should accept the will of God and concede. Maikahon Karo arrived at my house just when their leader was speaking and he promptly jumped into the discussion saying, “Accept the will of God or accept rigging? Who told you that Barmu won the election? Do you know the mago mago that that professor who calls himself returning officer did? You people are saying Alhaji should accept the will of God; is it God that said election should be rigged?” Many other groups also came to plead with me to concede. There was a delegation of civil society groups. I suspect they were the ones that sneaked to my house and gave my orderly a piece of paper containing Barmu Dakatsalle’s phone number, that I should call him and concede. Another group of trade unionists also came, as did a group calling themselves Housewives for Peace in Tafki State. They were led by one very old woman. As soon as they came into my living room, about 30 of them, they all knelt down and started saying in unison, “Please Alhaji, phone Barmu and concede so that we will have peace in Tafki State.” Tsinin Kusa was there that day and he said, “Stand up, you old women! Who sent you? Is it not Barmu’s wife that sent you here to plead with Alhaji? That bus that brought you here, I know it. Barmu’s wife bought it recently from her mechanic!” When he saw that his hired delegations were making no headway, Barmu decided to come to my house himself. He arrived unannounced at midnight together with the GSL party chairman and Barmu’s close friend Ali Karatsaye. I know Ali Karatsaye very well; he and Barmu were small time contractors in Abuja and they used to come to my office together. Barmu and his companions were stopped at the gate and a message was brought to me that someone who says he is the Governor-elect was here to see me. I said, “Go and tell him there is no Governor-elect in this town until the tribunal finishes its work.” Since his declaration as Governor-elect Barmu now has four Mopols attached to him; they were the ones that pushed my maiguard aside and he entered my house. I was sitting alone in the living room watching television when they sauntered in. As soon as they came into my living room Barmu came straight at me, grinning broadly and said, “Alhaji, since you refused to phone me and concede, I am here myself to receive your concession. Maybe you didn’t phone because you have no credit in your phone. After all this campaign, I know you can run out of money to buy credit. Since I am here you can now concede to me face to face, then we can tell the people of Tafki State that Alhaji has conceded to his old friend. Afterall, I have been your boy and your friend for a long time. In fact we nearly became in-laws; remember that I wanted to marry your sister that time but you said you had already given her away to somebody. Even now if you have another sister I don’t mind adding since I still have one vacancy.” I said, “Look here Barmu, don’t bring to me all those Charlie Charlie jokes. I don’t have any sister to give you and I am not going to concede to you whether by phone, by fax, by email, by post or by courier. You know that you and GSL betrayed me. We had an agreement but you abandoned it after your party won the presidential election. You must be punished for that. You know you have many skeletons in your cupboard. Your educational certificate is dubious. You were once indicted by an investigative panel for collecting money and failing to execute a contract. You owe money to many banks and your name is even at EFCC. That your running mate was once dismissed from a local government because he collected payment twice with the same receipt. So how can I concede to you with all these skeletons in your cupboard? Each one of them can disqualify you.” I expected to see fright on Barmu’s face but he laughed hilariously and said, “Alhaji, you and I have been together since when we were walking about this neighbourhood without pants. Is this what you want to do to your childhood friend, to go and start revealing my secrets? What if I also reveal your secrets? All the contracts that you inflated when you were a director, was it not my company’s letter headed paper that you were using? I don’t think it is good for the two of us to start revealing each other’s secrets.” At that stage the state chairman of GSL interjected. He said, “Alhaji, no one can come between you and His Excellency the Governor- elect. You grew up together and even in Abuja you were doing your things together so no one can come in-between the two of you. Alhaji, listen to me very carefully. If you take your friend to the tribunal it is only to the advantage of lawyers and judges. A lawyer will eat from your pocket and a lawyer will eat from Governor-elect’s pocket. The tribunal chairman and members will also eat from both of you. Policemen will eat, Malams will eat and witchdoctors will also eat. My proposal is this. Pick up your phone now and phone him, even though you are sitting together on the same settee. Then when he is forming his cabinet he will make you the Secretary to the State Government with a promise to hand over to you when he finishes his second term.” source- dailytrust.com.ng/weekly/index.php/satire/20331-gov-elect-cannot-sit-down-to-eat |

Politics / Fayose Begs Striking Eksu’s Lecturers To Resume by Jossy4luv1(m): 5:32pm On Mar 20, 2015 |
Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has begged the striking lecturers of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, to return to classrooms to prevent disruption of academic calendar. Fayose, who appealed to the lecturers to show understanding over non-payment of the September 2014 subvention owed by ex- Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration said the future of the students would have to be prioritised in the interest of all. The governor spoke at the university’s convocation ceremony where no fewer than 6,807 were conferred with Degree and Post Graduate Degree awards in various courses. The lecturers have declared an indefinite strike over non-payment of their two-month salaries of January and February. Fayose, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Olusola Kolapo, said “You can all attest to the fact that Governor Fayose is passionate about the payment of salaries and other benefits. “We are begging for your understanding on this issue because allowing the academic calendar to be disrupted may not be in the interest of these students, whose parents have so much invested in. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Patrick Aina, expressed delight over the accreditation granted the institution’s College of Medicine by National Universities Commission, saying “the result of the Medical and Dental Council is still being awaited, but with good prognosis.” Aina said the 2012/ 2013 session produced 19 First Class ,991 Second Class and 4,451 Second class lower divisions ,while 1,081 and 58 graduating students were in Second Class Lower Division and Pass respectively . |
Politics / 2015 Polls: Be Above Board, INEC Tells Staff by Jossy4luv1(m): 4:03pm On Mar 20, 2015 |
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has charged corps members and other staff of the commission to be deployed for the conduct of the 2015 General Elections to be above board. The commission gave the charge in Benin City at a – two day refreshers training organized for the ad-hoc staff. The training is to prepare them adequately for duties to assigned to them in the March 28 and April 11, 2015 general elections. Addressing the corp members, a senior official from INEC headquarters in Abuja, Mr. Mustapha expressed the need to be transparent, while performing their duties with due diligence in order not to provoke any crisis. On his part, Mr. Muyiwa Adelekan, an official from the Edo State office of INEC implored trainees to be steadfast and committed to their assigned duties, in line with the Electoral Act. Mr. K. G. Olawale, the Electoral Officer in charge of Oredo Local Government Area urged the ad-hoc staff to exercise dexterity while discharging their responsibilities. Mr. Olawale encouraged them to shun violence and be of good conduct while interfacing with the electorate in order to give room for mutual understanding between officers and the electorate. The training which was conducted in two segments had both theoretical and practical sections, in which the ad-hoc staff were trained extensively on the do’s and don’t of the electoral process. thenationonlineng.net/new/2015-polls-be-above-board-inec-tells-staff/ |
Politics / No Plan To Sack Workers In Osun – APC by Jossy4luv1(m): 3:50pm On Mar 20, 2015 |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of Osun has debunked the rumour that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is planning a massive retrenchment of senior civil servants on grade level 12 and above, including other workers above the age of 50 from the state’s employment after the general elections. In a statement from the party’s Directorate of Publicity Research and Strategy, the APC described the rumour as, “the usual silly spin of falsehood characteristic of PDP’s evil genius for manufacturing and propagating wicked lies especially in the State of Osun.” According to the APC, “at no time did Aregbesola contemplate to retrench any staff of any grade or age, and no such thing will be allowed to happen any time soon or in the future. “From day one, the policy of “gainful employment” of the APC governor, Rauf Aregbesola, had been, continues to remain and will be the intensified mantra of the party in the months and years ahead. “The only monstrous obstacle to this policy,” the APC contended, “is the evil construct of the PDP- led federal government in starving Osun State of its legitimate statutory funding. “Not many people knew, until Governor Fashola of Lagos State revealed recently, that to further starve APC states in particular of funding assistance, the PDP Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala ordered the banks not to help fund state government projects. “This kind of frustrating impediment is what the PDP is using to force states of the opposition to look for ways to overcome deliberate strangulation, through forced retirement of workers. “But the APC government is more innovative and constructive than the PDP had imagined. “Rather than contemplate retrenchment as the PDP was scheming, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is planning the creation of more jobs for the people; and one of the ways, indeed the most effective way to achieve this for Nigerians is to defeat the PDP on March 28 and April 11 Presidential and general election,” the APC said. “The evil that the PDP has become, through its promoting of massive corruption in the system, has brought Nigeria to its knees,” the APC argued, adding that, “Unless Nigerians as a people remove this obstacle to their progress and well-being, their suffering will deteriorate.” The APC therefore, alerted the people of Osun not to fall for the lies of the PDP because their purpose is to mislead, confuse and confound the masses to get them to vote for this same party that has turned Nigeria into the hell of a place that it is today. |
Politics / Frank Kokori To Jonathan: Don,t Sink Nigeria by Jossy4luv1(m): 3:43pm On Mar 20, 2015 |
WOULD you say the way the oil and gas sector is being run, that you are at home with it? When you talk about the oil and gas, talking about the downstream, it ends with exploration, production and the technicalities. I may not be in the position to talk deep into the upstream sector. But you know, the downstream is what the country talks about, that is the distribution, the marketing and the availability of fuel. Obviously, every Nigerian wants to have the pump price that they can afford. They want a distribution network that is available everywhere in the country and there is no time they will be satisfied with any price they feel is unbearable for them. We have been on that for years. I won’t go into whether the present price is okay or not, those are the things we fought so many years ago. During the military dictatorship, we in NUPENG, before the government could take any policy on the downstream sector, at least to increase the pump price, we were called on. I remember the 70 kobo per litre lasted for so many years, 70 kobo not naira. It was in 1993 when oil workers in the marketing sector industry had to protest that the overhead cost of running their companies was being affected by the low price. Well, we had to negotiate with the government, which even wanted to raise it up. But we decided to settle for N2 .70 Kobo. We used that price until I was abducted and imprisoned during the June 12 struggle. That was part of our political and social history. But I know that when I was in Bama Prisons in 1994, I was there barely two months when the Abacha regime increased from N2.70k to N11 .00 without consultation or anything with the civil society or Labour, because already, NUPENG was frustrated. Since then, it has been on the upward trend and the labour unions, which are supposed to monitor these things and call government to order were not able to do it up till today. Those are some of the things I see with Nigeria Labour Movement of today, that lots of impunity go on in the country and nobody check them; so it is not only in the oil industry. We want what you call an effective oil industry being the life wire of the country, mono-economy? But what can we do? People like us are retired, we stay at home, so the government plays a lot of games with the NNPC big players and it has become the honey pot. During your time in the industry, did you forsee a time like we have it currently in Nigeria that we will be going in and out of crisis in that sector? Normally, when there is no good governance and if there are no checks and balances, impunity thrives. That is why government needs strong institutions and once the institutions are compromised in a country; for instance, the EFCC is there to check financial crimes; the ICPC are there, the state security services, these are their jobs. It is not the jobs of people like us to know the accounting mechanism of the NNPC and all. There are institutions that are supposed to check all those things, Accountant General’s office, Auditor General’s office, those are the things we call weak institutions, the system itself. That is why some of us have sensed the democratic regime since 1999, some of us have not being satisfied with the way our country. In other words, we want a dynamic country where there is egalitarianism, justice, equity, but the way politics has gone, we are terribly disillusioned. Why do we have to go into all those struggles and sufferings and deprivations, if the end result of democratic rule is going to be worse than the military? We have been in democratic practice for 16 years and things seem to be getting worse. Do we now envisage a situation where we have to go back to the pre-politics era or what do you think is the way out? Obviously, nobody wants military rule. People always say the balance is that the worst democracy, civil rule is better than the military rule, no matter how benevolent the military is. We have lived all as activists and freedom fighters, there is no way we could talk about military coming back and they know. Actually, it was after the June 12 struggle that the Nigerian military, which were almost addicted to ceasing powers in coups, felt humiliated, that the people could resist to that level. Since then, I know they have on their own decided that never again will they cease power in this country, that the people will not just look at them, because we know what we did with them for 10 to 12 weeks of our resistance. We do not want the military. At least, we still have freedom of the press, people demonstrating and all that. The military wouldn’t accept that. Do you see a free and fair election? Obviously, it will be clean and fair because the PVC is a better source of managing the electoral fraud. That is why you could see here, a sitting government trying to use a back door. This is the greatest thing that could happen to electioneering in the third world. If we cannot go full electronics voting, this is the closest thing to electronics voting where a card is a human being, not just figures. You must be a human being to have a card. We will count humans. That’s what we call dry voting, not wet voting. I analyse these things, some people will come, daydreaming to say that some people are against Jonathan in Bayelsa State. I just laugh; you cannot go against Jonathan in Bayelsa. Jonathan will clear his 95% or 90% in Bayelsa State and there is nothing we can do about that. In Delta State, I told you the real thing, there is no way Buhari can beat Jonathan in Delta State, especially when the opposition is now between two big Urhobo sons, the major voting bloc of Delta, Olorogun Otega and Great Ogboru. This we know but the elections, there is no way they could do it. I think that is why the PDP is panicking about the whole thing. They suspect that the elections will nail their coffin after 16 years. But they should not panic really because in a real democracy, after you have done your bit and people feel you are not good enough, you try the alternative party. That is the legacy I think Jonathan should leave behind in this country. I know he has some hawks in his party and kitchen cabinet, pushing him to sink this country. Let him not sink this country. If he sinks the country, he is a human being, he will die one day; we shall all die and history will judge him. He should not dare to sink the country and there is no way anybody in the country can sink Nigeria because if he dares, the whole people will rise against him. |
