Big Franzo. Baba you do well.

Thanks so much.

bigfrancis21:

Lol. I know how happy you'd be. Are you planning on using Prodigy international student loan?

I strongly recommend that you take the GRE for interview purposes to be able to present something when asked by the VO. GRE can be registered now for N45k only. Goodluck.

Congratulations, you have been given admission. However, being a professional master's program the department does not offer funding nor graduate assistantship. You gotta make sure you can afford the tuition and fees for the program.

**Oya, off to Abe Igi Anu make I go drink paraga for Ìyá kazeem side to celebrate first**

Yeah, I'm very aware of the funding part and I'm prepared. Nah Visa level remain now and I'm not the most optimistic as GRE wasn't required at all for admission.

Good morning everyone,

I just got accepted for a masters program in Yeshiva University, New York. I was also offered a paid graduate assistantship and a $5k scholarship (which is small though).

However, I wasn't asked to pay application fee during the whole admission process, although the fee is $50, I was told my application can be attended to and I'll pay later. Okay, so I got admitted now and the school is saying I'll pay a down payment of $500 before March ending to confirm my admission.

I have no problem with that.

Here's my concern now...... Please, does been offered a paid graduate assistantship and a $5k scholarship gives my visa application an edge with the VO, no matter how little it is?

I'm also currently waiting on the admission decision of Maryland University (my first choice but very competitive). I really don't know how long it'll take. Should i really wait on them first or should I pay the $500 down payment for yeshiva?

Please, forgive my long post and questions. I'd appreciate responses to them.

HI guys, as par my Maryland admission, I got this response from the program director. Should I be getting excited?

Oga Femi,

Good evening. I do take this very serious o. A bit of humor doesn't negate that.

So I got another mail and it clarifies the hour and the stipend.

Please find attached.

femi312:
It seems you are not even taking this serious. You need to ask them if Tuition is waived or what percentage of Tuition is waived? If its an Assistanship, how much is the stipend worth per month? If you don't know all this, this might derail your plans if you decide to attend the school. From the look of things, it seems you will just earn a stipend and still pay the full Tuition per semester. Even at that, you need to know the numbers of hours you will be working per week.

Hello LagosismyHome,

So I mailed and got the attached response.

If only they knew I don't eat much lol.

LagosismyHome:

Call the school and clarify if this means you do not pay tuition. Most graduate assistance position do not pay tuition but this is worded in such a way that only the school can clarify what exactly does this offer entails. Ask them to break it down fully which will help you plan well

Congrats

Dear TWoods,

Apologies, I've not been online.

Please find attached.

Could it be that I don't understand their position on the graduate assistantship?

TWoods:

Are you sure what you were awarded is a graduate assistantship?

Also, I am aware of the university of Maryland system, never heard of Maryland unit as being close to Ivy League. But I may be wrong.

The fee is $36k. To be honest, I have no problem paying the fee. The school asked I send them my financial statements (of one or more sponsors) and I plan on doing that. Having been a silent reader here, I just want to know if I stand a chance with the VO and can be seen as a genuine student that I am.

Maryland that I'm waiting on actually don't offer GT or scholarship for the course I desire. It's just that UM is a bigger school and closer to been Ivy league.

LagosismyHome:

This offer be as it get ..... why is the GA not covering the whole tuition. If you mean 5,000 scholarship and then a promise for a job . That sounds more like what you were offered

The next thing is how much is the total tuition. If the tuition $42,000 then 5k is just a tiny drop. So depending on your pocket this deal might not be as good as it seems . Best to keep other options open
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by joystick007: 7:03pm On Feb 25, 2018
Thanks for the response boss.

I didn't take any test though. The program is Enterprise Risk Management, which is my field and I'm very experienced. I was however interviewed, twice, and I did some online test too before the admission decisions were taken.

Ill take the advisement brother. I'm very grateful.

Thanks.

Nwabu007:
@Joystick, Congratulations on your admission to Yeshiva University. My opinion is that you can accept the offer but defer payment of acceptance fee until you hear about the decision from Maryland.Secondly, the school offered you Graduate Assistantship which will help cover your stipends (living costs) while the $5,000 could be towards the tuition, if I'm right. So you still have to show financial capability to pay for tuition for a year. It's a good deal nonetheless. With regards to Visa, no one can predict the outcome of visa interview but from the few transcripts I have seen here, GTA shows some level of being a genuine student. Did you take standardized test? If yes, then you are in a good direction. Best Wishes.

Thanks Twoods.

The scholarship is just $5k. But I can obviously cover the rest. While the GA would help me to cover part of my living expenses.

I'll do as advised.

You've been very kind. I appreciate.

TWoods:

No one can tell you what gives an edge at a visa interview or not. You just have to try. Yes the graduate assistantship and scholarship helps bolster your credibility as a genuine student so that should help your confidence. The only thing I was not sure of was the $500 downpayment. I thought your tuition was fully covered with the GA and scholarship?

I’d say wait a few weeks, contact Maryland U and ask them if you should still expect a response and when. Let them know you already have an offer but looking to see if they also will offer you admission. If by March end you hear nothing, move on with yeshiva.

Thank you much.

You've been very kind.

goodemma20:

Congrats on your admission. Being offered an assistantship and scholarship truly gives you an edge as it gives the VO an idea that you're a genuine student especially when you also took standardized tests, however, don't completely rely on it as visa approval is a holistic process. On your second question, I'll like to give you a personal opinion. Don't throw away your admission because you're waiting for Maryland. Just make sure you have the $500 ready and wait for the third week of March and if you haven't heard anything from Maryland, go ahead and accept the admission. Yeshiva university is quite a good school....hope this helps.

I have to quickly drop a comment. I'm sorry I'm late to the party. There's something we all in this thread should put to mind. And I'll try to stretch it a bit.

1) This is not a normal thread. This is a STUDENT thread. A thread of people who are not only learned but people who are actively seeking knowledge. Don't equate it with some other threads, say Romance or Games thread.

2) Nobody owes you ANYTHING. You see, as Nigerians, we have this sense of entitlement that baffles me. We have a predetermined ways we believe we should be addressed and how people should treat us. This is sad. To be specific, you need help, you ask a question, someone answer you and you perceive the person is rude and he's hurt your Ego. All these in a faceless forum o. Why not ignore him and his answers and focus on those who's answers suit your image and ego. That someone decided to use his time to answer you is not a given. You don't deserve it because he owes you nothing. He's doing it because he wishes to. If his response doesn't make sense to you, move on. Coming in here and shouting rude is not only absurd but it's quite nonsensical.

Someone said He should have not responded if he knows he's going to be rude. Hello...... You should have ignored the comments too if you know the supposed rudeness hurt your feelings.

Please, I'm saying all these because we all feel people owe us to provide help here. We don't deserve any help from anybody. They owe us Nadar. So when they do, make sense out of the nonsense responses they type and move on.

Finally, please, learn how to read to understand. Many of you are lazy and not ready to put in the work. Often time, we look for the easy way out. Might be effective on some days but it burns you hard in most days. Google.com is a wonderful companion. Learn how to do your own research then seek clarification and help. Not the other way round. Remember, this is a thread for knowledge seekers and readers.

Time to start acting as one!

Do note this is not in support of anybody or any side to the disagreement. This is me been factual. And if my response hurt your ego, well, go treat your ego grin grin

Tribal Bigots like you always look for how to incite hate amidst the populace. There are igbos in all multinationals, just as there are other tribes in it. Grow up.

When will we, as humans, begin to understand that where we come from doesn't define us? It's who you are or want to be that matters.

Igbos have hatred amidst themselves, same as the typical Ijaw and itshekiri in the South South or the ife and modakeke in the Yoruba land.
