Politics › Re: President Buhari Arrives New York For UN 70th Assembly by jtownrep: 9:59am On Sep 25, 2015 |
Okoro2015: Notice the absence of any form of protocol from the US. Though this is not unusual for visiting African heads of states in this kind of event, the remark is to bring this to the attention of the propagandists, who overhyped the initial reception given to 'Baba body language' on his first visit. Also the ill informed comparism of that visit with GEJ's less celebrated subsequent visits to the US.
As i closely follow the papal visit to the USA, i now understand the real meaning of respect - not from the prism of Nigerian propagandists. Not even the Chinese Prime Minister who is also in the US on a working visit got the reception the Pope received. Obama, Biden, Kerry and even the speaker were all lining up to meet the Pope. Your destination is very well aware of your coming even before you head to the airport to fly there. Now, because there is a UN summit where many heads of government will be attending, high ranking government officials will be on hand to receive the visiting heads of state. They usually won't join the welcome party made up of high ranking embassy officials, notable Nigerians in the diaspora and members of the advance team. The protocol breach you refering to here is when someone (anyone) other than the designated head of government steps up to receive greetings on behalf of the no 1 citizen like patience Jonathan did repeatedly. |

EverestdeBliu: Who else have noticed the protruding white collar on his kaftan outfit, most times he's on an offshore diplomatic visit, particularly the US? The portrudin collar belongs to the shirt (usually show white long sleeve) worn underneath the caftan which is usually collar less. It was a fashion statement of the northern elite who had early contact with the whites. It is a fusion of both formal and traditional apparels. |
Politics › Re: Read What This Swedish Reporter Says About Nigeria And Buhari by jtownrep: 10:04am On Sep 05, 2015 |
ToyozzieTohBad: This is one of the most sensible comments I've read in a while, as regards to President Buhari's nominations. All these selfish, stupid and aggrieved Yoruba/Igbo people should just go and sit somewhere.
Ndigbo's that are killing themselves about the appointments made so far by President Buhari are just funny. Aside the fact that we Igbos shouldn’t expect sensitive appointments from him because many of us hate him without any justifiable reason and no smart politician will give such positions to his ‘enemies’, what did all our brothers that occupied sensitive positions recently achieved for our geopolitical zone? Recall that Igbos recently occupied head positions in Central Bank and Ministry of Finance. Also, an Igbo was recently appointed Secretary to Government of the federation, Minister of power, Minister of Solid Minerals, Head of Due Process unit, Minister of Education, Minister of Aviation, Executive Director of Nigerian Communications Commission, Chief of Army Staff, Inspector General of Police, Senate President, Deputy Senate President and Deputy speaker of house of Representatives. Also recently, an Igbo was appointed the Director General of National Broadcasting Commission. The question is what did all those Igbo appointees achieved for Ndi Igbo? Even Goodluck Jonathan that you foolishly accepted as your brother during his days in Aso Rock achieved nothing for you when he was the President.
If appointments can dictate how a region should develop, Southeast would have been a paradise by now because our brothers occupied almost all the sensitive positions recently. Another thing Igbos should understand is that the federal character principle they are quoting as their basis of argument is the greatest enemy of Nigeria especially Igbos. This principle champions the promotion of tribal mindsets instead of meritocracy in Nigeria as Nigerians are always after the state of origin of every federal appointee and prospective candidates for admissions instead of their performance. It is because of same federal character that a provision was made for ‘Education less developed’ states which always make it possible for indigenes of those states to be giving more and cheaper consideration during admissions and recruitment in order to promote equity in line with the federal character. This is Rubbish! Such has caused situations whereby somebody from Anambra or Imo will score average of about 260 in JAMB UTME and POST- UTME but will be denied admission while somebody from states like Zamfara, Ebonyi or Bayelsa will score average of about180 and will be admitted in order to achieve the so called equity in intellectual distribution among all the states in line with same federal character. Same federal character is the reason why instead of criticising the performance ability of appointees, Nigerians especially Igbos will only be interested in their states of origin.
Federal character is evil. This is the hour of change and it must be jettisoned! If Nigeria must progress, we must do away with federal character and state of origin provisions and encourage meritocracy and state of residence. I don’t care where appointees come from, all I want is excellent performance. If the wailing Igbos like they should continue hating Buhari while the Niger-Deltans are busy consolidating their region and supporting his government. At last Igbos will remain the wailing loosers. It baffles me the way some of my Igbo brothers are hating Buhari without any justifiable reason. Even the Niger-Deltans that are more closer to the failed government of Goodluck Jonathan always acknowledge that he betrayed them, but the Igbos that are not in any way brothers to the failed President are killing themselves and even their conscience with baseless sentiments. Also, I have expected these misguided Igbos to understand that the Niger-Deltans who they foolishly took as their brothers during the elections are not at any point with them. These Niger-Deltans have understood that they can't make any political achievement in Nigeria without the cooperation of other tribes, and wisely began to issue their supports and cooperation to the Buhari led government while the misguided Igbos are still enslaving themselves with baseless sentiments. Believe it or not, political appointments are catalysed by intelligent lobbying and not unnecessary hatred. No smart politician will appoint his haters to sensitive positions.
I will never blame Buhari if he fails to appoint any Igbo to key positions. I am proud of Niger- Deltans and they are already reaping the fruits of their wisdom. Igbos should have a rethink!

huche: Nafdac should intensify efforts in fighting importers and producers of substandard goods. imagine i went to a supermarket few months back to buy a tin of milk. low and behold, when i got home and opened it, it doesnt evn taste like milk. i had running stomach that week. For consumers, ensure u always check out for expiring date and seal of quality for products purchased. Fighting them is not enough, destroying their wares is also not enough. Their products endanger lives as such when arrested they should be charged with attempted murder and treated accordingly. Until we start treating drug peddlers, drug and food counterfeiters the way they are handled in Indonesia we won't see the end of it. |

Opinedecandid: Stories!
Question is, if PDP, Kwara State is completely and singlehandedly responsible for the probe of a former first Lady if their State, why now, 5yrs after she left office? Same reason why many ladies came out to accuse Bill Cosby of rape over 30 years after the incident. Opportunity is all some people need to tip the scale. |

Business › Re: How Iran Deal Could Destroy Nigeria's Economy by jtownrep: 9:02am On Jul 16, 2015 |
All the economically developed countries depend on sustainable income sources such as manufacturing, exports and intellectual development. The most unstable countries in the world today are mostly dependent on the extractive industry.
Maybe Nigeria needs to speed up its industrialization, cut imports to below 30%, drive up local production and increase exports to over 60%. That is a sure way of getting money getting into the country (not as loans, aid or grants) and creating employment for millions of Nigerians.
Economic diversification is our only way out. |

efilefun: Sorry bro, but I don't think the area you reside had anything to do with you being rejected, we Nigerians are always very fast to attribute our failure on one thing or the other, maybe your portfolio wasn't as "juicy" as that of the other candidate... He might have done some professional courses relevant to the field and got more working experience than you... So there are a lot of things that could have gone wrong... But definitely not cuz of the area you reside I think it does matter now. A friend went for a job interview and the first question was 'where do you live?'. Yaba he blurted out in shock as that was the last question he expected. Well the rest session was mere formalities and he got the job with a car and driver. |

First of all the food/snack is paid for so please don't get it twisted. You get biscuits, a bun and a child sized drink in the pack cuz you r in economy, in the business class section you get more cuz you paid more.
Aero started selling food inflight when they were doing their 5k promo.
I had a very nasty experience after snacking on one dawn flight to abuja. I was going for a very important meeting so I snacked on-board, it was a huge mistake. My tummy ran all thru the day, I could barely sit for a minute during the meeting. Was a crucial opportunity dat I lost due to in-flight snacking so since then I simply snack at the airport prior to the flight. |
