Webmasters › Re: My Bitter Experience With A Nairalander Web Designer Bluefly Design. by Julius2214(m): 11:40pm On Apr 16, 2019 |
These are one of the reasons I can't ever bring my business to nairaland ever again. Potential clients doesn't trust website developers/designers here again. And I don't even blame them... with all these "WordPress installers" calling themselves web designers. Once you know how to install a WordPress theme here on Nairaland, then you are a professional website designer.
I'm not saying professionals are not here, but there are just very very few of them. But the whack-jobs in here are more than 95% compared to those that really know what they're doing. You as a business owner that need a website shouldn't just give up on getting a good website designer. You can totally avoid those nut-jobs. There are some traits you can use to identify them.
1. Most of them are new here. Their accounts are not more than a few months. You'll even save yourself from scam because some of them even created the account mainly for scam. I know we are still talking about unprofessional web designers but some are actually here to scam you of your hard earned money.
When you finally pick anyone, still do your findings before handing the job to them. Search their names on the forum to see if there are any report of scam or if they're really as good as they say they are. You'll surely find out. Nairaland saves everything.
2. A supposed web designer should have a website... An appealing one at that. Before you give your web project to any designer or developer, ask to see his own website. Seeing how good his own website/portfolio is, should already give you an idea of how well he'll be doing your work for you.
I always check the business websites of the web designers here on the webmaster section. I can tell you that most of them are just WordPress themes they downloaded and installed. I even saw up to 3 websites that has exactly the same design, because they downloaded an exact same themes and installed it without any customization. Even the demo content (write-ups) from the demo were all included on the designers' website. (The theme is 'webs' or something like that)
I can boldly say that my personal/portfolio website is unique and you can't find the exact same design anywhere else. And it's not built with WordPress, (used WordPress for the blog-page though) just html, css and js. I'm not saying that WordPress is not good. CMS are actually very good and I do use WordPress very well... I use Bootstrap Framework too. CMS are even preferable because they save you the stress and makes your work easier. But you should learn to create your own themes to suit your needs.
3. Ask for his past web projects. As a website designer, it's not possible to say you don't have any content in your portfolio. Even if you're just starting out, you should have at least 2 or 3 websites you've worked on by yourself during your learning process. It doesn't necessarily have to be for a client.
So, as a business owner looking to get a website for your business, make sure to look out for these traits in a so called web designer before letting him handle your project. |

Webmasters › Re: Finding A Web Designer/web Developer For My Multi-seller Ecommerce Ended Well by Julius2214(m): 1:15am On Apr 11, 2019 |
I know you're trying to advertise your website design company. But you don't have to lie and deceive people while doing that. Saying you don't know the designer of your website before hand is a lie. If you ask me, I think both companies are run by the same individuals. And that is you.
Lemme tell you the mistake you made. And please be careful not to make it next time.
The company information.
You might have a very good explanation as to why both companies have the same address and phone numbers though.

buy247: Do you want to build a website for your business and you don't want to fall into a wrong hand? Or for some reason you fear that a typical web developer in Nigeria may not pay enough attention to fully understand your requirements or won’t be patient enough to guide you ? Then first and foremost, accept my empathy as this experience is not peculiar to you. My journey to building my multi-seller ecommerce website-buy247.com.ng- had its own fair share of challenges.
This article is motivated by a conversation i had with a fellow merchant who narrated his ordeal with two local developers before he eventually patronised an indian developer. His narrative was pathetic because he felt he wasn't properly managed, In fact the first developer called him a difficult customer because he insisted on what he -the customer- wants instead of accepting what he - the developer - delivered. The first developer i contacted over-promised and after deploying a site without a payment module, he kept up a ceaseless round of correspondence that couldn't close the project. He couldn't deliver!
Another developer couldn't make the site function for other interested sellers. Another forced me to use a flat shipment fee as against my request for a weight based fee (Can you imagine that) . I refused the suggestion and as a result, i was deemed uncooperative and the project was abandoned.
My site couldn't go live until i met Classiclink Technology whom i visited at their office at Alausa (Alausa Shopping Mall) The development team listened to my story and advised accordingly, i was impressed with the fact that my requirements were more important to them than their payment. Till date support has been reliable and every module on my site functions as required.
I thought it necessary to post my feedback on their services as a way to guide so many merchants shopping for web design / development services. And to show my appreciation to Classiclink development team for helping me to put flesh on my requirements and without complaints and financial presure, steered my project to completion.
How can i patronise a web designer/developer who under delivers and yet labels me a difficult-customer. What the heck does that mean?
I did not know Classiclink Technology prior to my first visit but now we are planning do several ecommerce related projects together. Their advice on digital marketing has really helped with sales. I see this as a client management skill that all merchants deserve. So many designers/ developers need to know that a merchants' patronage is not all about money money money. Haba!!

This is to add color to your content. The bb code in the picture below, when posted here or your signature will become: THIS IS MY SIGNATURE
Just change the "blue" to any color your want. It will work perfectly for red, blue, green and yellow.

I use namesilo for my domains. Namecheap is just cheap for hosting.
But we can't really say namecheap domain are costly though, considering the price from other registrars, that ranges from 10 to 15 dollars.
To save more, namesilo is a go. Their dot-com domain as at now costs 6.99 dollars. I even know of a popular Nigerian host that resell domain from them. |

Simpath: I have this website, [url]dailymailonline.com.ng[/url], that attracts many visitors. SSL certificate was installed on it, but it appears not properly. When you visit the site it complains about Self-Signed Certificate. Of course, smart users may find their way through to the site. But very many users, give up before trying.
I'm getting lots of complains already. What could be the issue? How do I resolve this?
The site was developed with Wordpress. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thank you. You need to reinstall the certificate |

Ogbonnaya1: please am new in web development i am having issue and i need webmasters to help me solve my problem.
I am trying to build a blog with html and css, so when i write some articles on the index page how am i gonna link each article to the relevant section of my webpage for instance politics.html section <!Doctype html> <html> <head> <title>Html news articles</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href=""> </head> <body> <header>
<a class="site-name" href="#">google.com</a> <nav> <ul> <li><a href="#">home</a></li> <li><a href="">politics.html</a></li> <li><a href="">about</a></li> <li><a href="">contact</a></li> </ul> </nav> </header>
Praesent tempor augue at gravida vestibulum. Pellentesque sodales placerat lacus quis pulvinar. Nam dictum non magna ut tristique. Vivamus a mauris tempus, volutpat sapien consequat, vehicula lorem. Maecenas posuere, turpis ac blandit aliquam, nisl eros sodales augue, id pharetra arcu erat non sapien. Aliquam volutpat ultrices risus vel rhoncus. Maecenas at orci viverra, placerat leo a, tempus lectus. Fusce sollicitudin condimentum facilisis.</p> </article> please what can i do from here thanks This will be so much stressful for you. Your question shows you have little or no knowledge about this. What I'll advice is just move to WordPress and save yourself the stress. WordPress is made for that. If you continue using just html and css, you'll need to manually edit your homepage html page any time you add new articles. And this can be very stressful if you post often. Just install WordPress and a nice theme and only worry about your contents and not the codes |

Webmasters › Re: Please, Is There Any Implication For Switching From A Niche To A Different One? by Julius2214(m): 3:33pm On Mar 19, 2019 |
Jetland: Hello Webmasters, I was running my website some months ago with a particular niche. over time, I decided to switch from the niche to another one. My concern now is that, since Google had already indexed the domain name for the niche, won't there some implications or penalties if I switch to a different niche? I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys. Thanks I don't think there's implication from Google.... The only downside is you'll end up confusing your readers and you'll definitely loose some or most of them. They're probably coming back because they like your topics and what you blog about. So what do you think will happen when they no longer see what attracted them in the first place. This will only happen to your regular visitors though. |
