The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two fleeing suspects, Farouk Mohammed and Jamiu Kasali, who murdered Pastor Babatunde Dada of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG on 6th Avenue, Festac Town.

The suspects, who claimed to be upcoming musicians, stabbed the 46-year-old pastor to death on December 2, 2021, and fled with his bag containing some money.

It was gathered that the suspects had approached the unsuspecting pastor on the pretext of being strangers in Lagos who had no place to stay.

The deceased lodged them in a room in the church which also served as his residence only to be attacked at about 12 noon the next day and abandoned in the pool of his blood to die.

It was further gathered that the suspects attended church service the Sunday before the incident, and also came out during an altar call to 'surrender their lives to Jesus'

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, who confirmed the arrest, disclosed that Mohammed was tracked to Ilorin, Kwara State, while his partner in crime, Kasali, was apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos.

In an interview published by Vanguard, Kasali, said, “On the day we struck, the Pastor came to Church in morning, gave us money for food and left. Later, he came in with a bag containing money,"

"Few hours before then, Farouk got a telephone call from his mother, urging him to come home quickly that she was sick. We were contemplating on how he would get money to take his mother to the hospital when the Pastor walked in with the bag containing money.

"We followed him upstairs, hit him with a plank, before stabbing him with a broken bottle in the neck. He fell down. We grabbed the bag and left the house.

On his part, Mohammed, 15, said he lied to his parents that he was coming to Lagos for a show, being an incoming Musician.

"I lied to my mother that I would get at least, N200,000 from the show. We are upcoming musicians. We have been in the industry for three years. When things were not going on as planned, we decided to do something else , in order to invest in our music industry. My stage name is Zealight while Kasali’s J Fresh," he said.

"Our mission in Lagos was to look for where to perform. But that plan changed immediately we saw Pastor with the bag containing money." he added.

Meanwhile, Odumosu said the exhibits used to commit the act have been recovered, adding that the suspects would be charged to court.

A mother of three set her house on fire, killing herself and two of her children aged 4 and 2 years in Kenya.

The incident happened in Sirende Village in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, on New Year's day, January 1, 2022, after she accused her husband of cheating on her with another woman.

The woman identified as Hellen Vuyanzi, 35, is alleged to have doused parts of the house in petrol before lighting it up on Saturday night, Learnt.

Her third child, aged 11, survived the tragedy after jumping out of the house through a window.

Lugari Sub-County Police Commander, Bernard Ngungu, told The Standard that Vuyanzi had accused her husband of infidelity.

"We had earlier counselled Vuyanzi and her spouse, Thomas Amito, after a domestic dispute arose between them. We understand that Hellen had accused Thomas of cheating on her with another woman." said Ngungu.

Police say Vuyanzi might have bought petrol from a local filling station, and used it to set her matrimonial home alight.

Vuyanzi’s neighbour, who spoke to The Standard on condition of anonymity, said that the deceased and her partner had been having recurrent domestic wrangle.

"The two were quarreling now and again, with the woman accusing her husband of infidelity. We didn’t expect that their issues would end tragically," said the neighbour.

Stephen Okila, the cousin of Vuyanzi’s husband Thomas Amito, said that Amito called him on Saturday night and informed him that his (Amito’s) house was on fire.

Amito was away from home at the time.

"I rushed to his house, and confirmed that it was true – that the house was on fire. Unfortunately, my cousin’s wife and her two children aged 4 and 2 years had already been burnt to death. We understand that the couple’s eldest child, a boy aged 11, managed to escape through the window,” said Okila.

Okila said he was not aware of any marital issues that his cousin, Amito, had with his partner.

"I was close to them (Amito and Vuyanzi), and I didn’t hear of any issues with their marriage." he added.

Bodies of Vuyanzi and her two children were taken to Webuye County Hospital morgue.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have said that Florida rapper, J $tash allegedly shot and killed a mother of three at her California home before turning the gun on himself.

The tragic incident happened in Temple City around 7:14 a.m on New Year's Day. Police officers who responded to reports of domestic violence, found a 27-year-old female and 28-year-old male who were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said;

"The female victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while the male victim sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Lieutenant Derrick Alfred confirmed J $tash is believed to have killed 27-year-old Jeanette Gallegos before turning the gun on himself.

Mr Alfred told The Sun that J $tash, whose real name is Justin Joseph, and Gallegos had been living together in the Temple City home for the past few months. They were arguing about their relationship on January 1 before J $tash reportedly took Gallegos into the master bedroom and locked the door, Mr Alfred said.

The lieutenant went on to say that Gallegos’ children, ages 7, 9, and 11 years old, were home at the time and knocked on the door periodically to make sure their mom was OK.

The kids heard gunshots around 7am and called their grandmother, who told them to call police. When deputies got to the home, the kids ran outside and deputies forced their way into the master bedroom, which was locked.

Mr Alfred said deputies then “found the victim and her boyfriend J $tash on the floor inside.”

"The female victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while the male victim sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound," police told local radio station KFI-AM.

The children were taken from the home and are now with family, Mr Alfred said. Autopsies were scheduled for J $tash and Gallegos as deputies work to piece together what led up to the gunfire.

No note was found, but deputies were believed to have visited the home on one prior occasion, according to Mr Alfred.
