Where is Egypt seeing all these money for equipment?

Or is @S400 loaning Egypt Money? undecided undecided
Bro please remember Nigeria also grin grin

Italian foreign ministry's report to Senate on 2019 arms exports reveals that
@Leonardo_IT
sold 32 military helicopters (24 AW149 and 8 AW189) to Egypt, in a deal worth €871 million. The AW149 is the dedicated combar version of AW139.

I doubt the vt4 would be used in the north east, we have lost a lot of weapons based on attrition , I think the new weapons are to free the old weapons in other parts of the country to be moved into the northeast , when the new weapons are used to restock Nigerian arsenal.

I think the air force used the same logic, in buying 3 jf17 too, to reduce the gap of lost f7 jets

L-39ZA jets are currently replacing the F-7 jets in the field. The F-7s are currently undergoing deep maintenance by CATIC in Nigeria.

The JF-17s are a capability leap, I don't think they would be rushed into service.

I also agree that the new hardware the army got might not be rushed into service. These are more sophisticated vehicles than what we previously had. So, there's a big might, however with the Nigerian army, you never know.

But nothing will gladden me more than seeing a convoy of Made in Nigeria MRAPs.

There is no better feeling than seeing a military convoy of made in Nigeria vehicles. I'm very very sure that in the not so distant future it will be a reality.

I remember the army was supposed to get Varta MRAPs from Ukraine, but that contract has been cancelled in favour of vehicles from Proforce & DICON.

When I see a Turkish army convoy, I immediately wish that's Nigeria.

Our very own armoured convoy attached.

It all boils down to funds, we spent almost $3bn restoring peace to those countries, we also lost alot of men. If you ask me, that adventure wasn't worth it because till date we haven't benefited anything rather it's the Chinese and other nationals that are reaping from where they didn't sow.

For example the Philippines military is currently running a modernization programme.

How much are they spending, just over 3 billion a year, or 4 billion at most. We can do that, our military would be better off for it.

I agree that you are right.

However I won't say that the adventures weren't worth it, they provided Nigeria considerable modern battle field experience, and the experience of fighting in built up areas.

Corruption and a lack of investment did stifle our growth since the end of that campaign, but we are starting to rebuild our capabilities, our Air Force, the Navy and Army are investing little by little, the defence industry is developing little by little.

If we can get another fresh crop of forward looking men to lead our military, also funds, even if it is a yearly 1 billion dollars dedicated to procurement we would see change.

Since the termination of that contract. How many offensive operations have you seen Nigeria Army go on till this period. The AHQ Strike Group/ Armed Forces Special Forces are no more. Missed those guys and their Modified Rifles.

We currently have an offensive going on, have you forgotten? grin grin

Remember the benefits 72MSF had, the Nigerian army is strong, we have numbers of dedicated soldiers.

What the army needs is equipment, not just any type, but serviceable equipment in large numbers.

The army requires a minimum of 509 MRAPs in the North East alone, artillery and tanks. Air support whenever it is needed. Then watch our army in full throttle.

Did we use mercenaries in Sierra Leone and Liberia?

Why do you think our military operations in those countries were so successful?

Terminating their contract was the worst thing that happened in the war against Terror. They would have built a mobile lightening Force capable of hitting hard and fast. That force could have been the first line of defense.

I disagree with this. Terminating their contract did not change anything. The Nigerian army is still an effective fighting machine.

I agree with recruiting contractors to build skills, and train and set up units, but not to fight in the field.

I recently read articles of their operation in Nigeria, while commendable there were still areas of lapses.

NAVY RESCUES 18 CREW MEMBERS ONBOARD CHINESE VESSEL, ARRESTS 10

The Nigerian Navy (NN) has rescued 18 crew members on board a Chinese vessel, MV HAILUFANG II, from pirates’ attack. The Commander Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, Commodore Ibrahim Shettima, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos. He said the crew members comprising Chinese, Ghanaians and Ivoirians were rescued on Thursday. The crew members were attacked by pirates off the coast of Cote d’Ivoire.

He said: “I am here to make a brief on the rescue efforts of the Nigerian Navy in a recent pirate attack within the Gulf of Guinea (GoG). “On May 15, a Chinese vessel, MV HAILUFANG II, was attacked by pirates off the coast of Cote d’Ivoire. “The pirates took control of the vessel and directed the vessel toward Nigerian waters. “The vessel had 18 crew members, comprising Chinese, Ghanaians and Ivoirians.”

Shettima said the Nigerian Navy was alerted on the attack, adding that it immediately dispatched the NNS NGURU to intercept the vessel. “On interception of the vessel at about 140nm south of Lagos Fairway Buoy, the pirates refused to comply with the orders of the Navy Ship. “Hence, the NN had to conduct an opposed boarding of the vessel. “All the ship’s crew were safely rescued, while the 10 pirates were arrested,” the navy officer added.

All of these started from somewhere.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step..
I'm sure you equally surprised and happy with the Level Nigeria defense Industry has reached you weren't expecting it where u

If proforce says it then so be it..
It make take Another 5 years from now before they even roll out the CAD design..

You don't quite understand basic economics. When you understand the economics of military production, then we can have this discussion.

Until then, we'll have to leave this at that.

Toju200:
that is what I'm saying na...
They have the ambition to do it..
But it's never going to be easy.
Proforce said they were going to start a tank project that's like 5 years ago but nothing yet..
Hopefully in years to come we'll see something..

Unless they can sustain significant revenues, with sure hundreds of millions of dollars year-on-year revenue stream, I don't see that happening.

Say by some miracle they develop a Tank, invest 1 billion dollars, and a unit cost is $12 million.

VT-4 = 4 million dollars
T-90 = 3 million dollars
Abrams Tank = 5 million dollars

If you you are the Nigerian army, which one will you buy with your 2 billion dollars defence budget?

I was actually thinking maybe they were building some tank plant or so..buh since u said it's an old brochure then maybe they were just whyning us

They don't have the skill, technical knowledge or money to develop a Tank.

For example Turkish Altay tank cost Turkey $1 billion in development cost. The Altay is essentially a copy of the K-2 from South-Korea. The Koreans provided the technical know how in building the Altay Tank.

It's not possible for Proforce to invest 1 billion dollars in developing a Tank, where will they get that kind of money from?
Foreign Affairs / Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Kabe2: 9:27am On May 19, 2020
Toju200:
look at it...
They have the ambition to do such..
You'll see most time when they list their products you'll see Armoured tanks when they haven't been even done anything close to it...
When the first ARA MRAP rolled out that stated that they would be working on a prototype tank project..
That's like 5 years ago..
It was included in their old brochure.
But not in this current one
Infact most of their project they are to carry out it's not in this new brochure
Who's aware they signed an MOU with NAF to produce Light attack helicopters and drones last year December....
NAF didn't even make that public

Bros, building a tank is not some fantasy or wish.

It requires human and capital investment which we currently do not possess in Nigeria.

We need to stop wishful thinking and live in reality.

Do you know the development cost of building a Tank?

They included it in their brochure..I don't think they would put it there if they don't plan on building them

That's an old brochure, go through the recently updated one Toju200 posted.

How do you think they would go about building it, in your opinion?

We need to crawl before we can run.

Proforce does not have the expertise to build a tank.

They can build a tracked IFV, yes, but not a tank.

buh for the pantsir system am sorry buh that system is sh.it utter rubbish coming from Russia am disappointed
the Patriot and pantsir are dragging the worst defense system I know

That's the truth. The Pantsir and Patriot are dragging the title for the worst air defence system. The Buk M2 and the Tors have proven to be very good.

Why I think the Patriot would fare better and will continue to post sales irrespective of performance is because the Americans control the media narrative and America is an English speaking country.

It's not the same for the Russians, they don't control the media narrative and they are not English speaking.

This was why I was concerned for the Russians with regards to the pummeling the Pantsir was receiving from Turkey. This only stopped when the Syrian deployed the Buk system.

Now Turkey has continued same thing in Libya. I read Drones will not be effective because they are slow moving and would easily be shot down, but what we see in Syria and Libya is they have been very effective against air defences.

At this point I would think users would dump the Pantsir for manpads.

S400:

That means nothing .the weapon is not the problem its how you use it ,

In syria the pantsir that was destroyed was in rest position, radar off after he had fired all his missiles and destroyed his targets , the crew remained on the spot while waiting for the support vehicle ( big error for a mobile air defense system in operation area) , thats why it was destroyed .

For libyan haftar clown militia , what can i say , poeple shared the videos of the pantsir delivry convoy live on social media's .. the turkish drone followed the delivry of the pantsir system from delivry until the base and detroyed it . without been even detected and pantsir was also not activated ، thats just too stupid .

Pantsir is a very good air defense system specially when used with other middle , long range air defense systems and radars . dont think it will change its use in algerian , syrian or russian armies

I agree that the Libyan crew and fighters have been very incompetent.

However, your claim that the Pantsir is a very good air defence system is not accurate. The Pantsir has proven to be very ineffective, even when manned by Russian crews.

The problem is that the much hyped Pantsir has been a flop. No proof of any Pantsir kills has ever been presented and Israeli airstrikes consistently destroy their targets, even when Pantsir is present and firing lots of those Tunguska missiles.

In the drone attack on Russian air base in 2018, The older Tor-M2U system used its missiles successfully to shoot down the UAVs while the more recent Pantsir-S1 missiles all missed.

The main problem with Pantsir-S1 is that in combat it doesn’t work. Failures have been reported at least three times since 2007, and all occurred in Syria. Two months after Syria received Pantsir-S1s in 2007, Israel bombed a Syrian nuclear weapons development facility. The Syrians were very dismayed at how ineffective the new Pantsir-S1 systems were during the Israeli strike. The 2007 failure was attributed to Israelis figuring out how to blind these systems electronically. In 2017 Pantsir S1 again failed during an Israeli attack and the excuse this time was that the Pantsir-S1s were not turned on. The 2018 failure was with operational Pantsir systems firing missiles at UAVs and missing while Tor-M2U systems detected UAVs and regularly shot them down with missiles.

The Pantsir as we have seen has been very terrible in combat. Russia needs to do away with that system or radically upgrade it so it becomes effective in combat.

The Pantsir is giving the Russian defence industry a very bad image.

Anyway the Pantsir has proven to be an inefficient, ineffective overhyped air defence system.

It has proven to be a total failure in Syria and Libya.

LNA forces abandon Pantsir air defence system.

It seems the Pantsir is just all hype and no balls.

The Buk M2 have performed better, so has the Tor system.

@S400, why does this mean for Algeria.

From Syria to Libya, it has ended in tears for the Pantsir system.
