The ranks of the Delta state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) swell by 5,000 members recently - The members were mainly drawn from Ughelli North local government area of the state - The move is in anticipation of the 2019 general election A report by Daily Post indicates that no fewer than 5,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the APC in Ughelli North local government area in Delta state. According to the report, the defectors were led by an influential politician in the area named Olorogun Ovoke Oshasha Speaking at the ceremony organised for them, Oshasha said: “We are tired of PDP in Delta state; we are tired of being governed by people who cannot pay workers’ salaries, who cannot provide good health care, who cannot provide adequate security for lives and property and cannot complete meaningful projects that can change the economic activities of Ughelli North.” He continued: “Ughelli is a town that connects many other towns together, yet we cannot boast of durable roads. All projects that were started in Ughelli were abandoned by the current administration.” “If you go out there right now, you will see Deltans struggling to survive despite the huge allocations that come to Delta state.” He urged Deltans to embrace people who are passionate about changing society for good, rather than supporting those who care less about their well being. The chairman of APC in Delta Central Senatorial District, Adelabu Bodjor, and the chairman of the party in Ughelli North, Olorogun Felix Ekure, in their separate remarks, welcomed the new members to the party. They assured them that the APC in Detlta state was a party where every member had equal rights. They boasted that the APC was out to dislodge PDP in the next council election and the 2019 general election. The event is coming barely a week after Dr Cairo Ojougboh, the former factional deputy national chairman of the PDP left the party along with his loyalists. The defectors threw their party cards into the waste bin at Ojougboh's home in Agbor, Ika South local government area of Delta state. The ceremony was witnessed by the minister of petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu and leaders of the APC in the South-South zone. https://www.naij.com/1127209-delta-apc-ranks-swell-5000-pdp-members-defect.html |

Following the tension generated by agitation in the country, the House of Representatives has resolved to revisit the issue of devolution of power bill on resumption of plenary. The green chamber also plans to strengthen the unity of the country by assigning a high power committee to go round the country to interact with stakeholder across the six geo-political zones. The House arrived at these resolutions following a motion moved by House majority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, under matters of urgent public importance, The Independent reports. Gbajabiamila in the motion called on the House to as a matter of urgency address issues regarding agitations with a view to protecting the unity of the country. He said: "Mr. Speaker, these issues regarding agitations were all over the place, from the East, the West, the North and South. And we have as a responsibility to speak with one voice as a House and bring healing and reconciliation to our dear country. "So I ask, are we going to play the ostrich and act as if nothing is wrong? We have swore to protect the unity and ensure the progress of this country and that we should be seen to be doing; and like it was said, the task of keeping this nation one is a task that must be done." Professor Taoheed Adedoja, the former minister of sports and special duties, said Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) will return to power in 2019 - Adedoja said Nigerians are now in a hurry for PDP to come back only after two years - He said Ahmed Makarfi, the party national caretaker, has promised Nigerians dividends of democracy Professor Taoheed Adedoja, the former minister of sports and special duties, has disclosed why Nigerians are clamoring for the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) to return to power in 2019. According to Vanguard, Adedoja said Nigerians are yearning for PDP to return to power because they seemed not to have got what they needed from the President Muhammadu Buhari's government within two years. NAIJ.com gathered that the former minister who made this known in Abuja said with discipline, the former ruling party will reclaim power in 2019. He said: ''Sometimes, a party will rule for many years, the people in that country may not even want that party to come back again. ''Sometimes and depending on the country, they would let an opposition party to rule for another 16 years so that they can compare the two. But Nigerians are now in a hurry for PDP to come back only after two years. There is a reason for it. ''What Nigerians expect now is to give the PDP another opportunity to come back in 2019 to rule better. If therefore, Nigerians expect PDP to rule and rule better, the party platform in which the President of Nigeria will emerge must therefore be better, the process must be better and will involve a spectrum of PDP members. ''The 16 years that we were in power enabled the PDP to make a lot of positive changes in the lives of Nigerians in virtually all sectors of the economy-education, health, provision of infrastructure, changing the lifestyle of people including workers in this country in the area of agriculture, rural development, improvement in our railway system and the transportation system (air, road and sea). ''The PDP of today will bring us two things: the PDP of tomorrow and the new platform that will produce the President of Nigeria in 2019. ''Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led committee has promised Nigerians dividends of democracy better and that is why I have offered myself to lead the party to that promised manifesto; to lead the party to that promised reinvigoration of the aspirations of Nigerians in terms of their high expectations''. https://www.naij.com/1127183-why-nigerians-pdp-reclaim-power-2019-former-minister.html |

Back United in 9/1 CL five fold Man Utd stars Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku lead the way, with club-mate Marcus Rashford just sneaking into the top five. The highest player who is not currently playing in the Premier League is Lionel Messi in eighth, while Ronaldo and Neymar come in 15th and 18th position respectively. Alexis Sanchez’s contract dispute seems to have affected his popularity at Arsenal as he is ranked only 22nd by the retailer, behind Aston Villa’s John Terry, the leading Championship player, in 21st. Alexis’ team-mate Mesut Ozil, who is also a year away from being a free agent, is ranked 20th. WHICH PLAYER SELLS THE MOST SHIRTS IN THE UK? We asked Sky Sports readers to pick their Manchester United XI after Nemanja Matic became Jose Mourinho's third major signing of the summer - and the results are in. The Serb, who completed his £40m move from Chelsea on Monday, was the most popular pick for the holding role in a 4-3-3 formation, with Paul Pogba to his left and Ander Herrera to his right. Romelu Lukaku was selected to lead the line following his £90m transfer from Everton, with Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan proving more popular than Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata on the flanks. David de Gea was a shoo-in in goal, with 99 per cent of selectors picking him ahead of Sergio Romero, while £39.5m defender Victor Lindelof was favoured to partner Eric Bailly at centre-back. Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw were the most popular picks for the full-back positions, meaning there was no place in the team for either Daley Blind or Matteo Darmian. The central midfield voted for Anderr Herrera partnered by Nemanja Matic which will allow the most expensive player Paul Pogba to play more forward compared to last season position. The Manchester United team selected by Sky Sports readers What do you make of the team? And what else do Manchester United need to do in the transfer market? Leave a comment below or let us know your thoughts on Twitter @SkySportsPL.
