President Muhammadu Buhari says he was fair in his appointments of ministers from the Southeast despite getting low votes from the region in 2015. He made this remark while rubbishing insinuations of him marginalising the Southeast in his appointments. Speaking during an interview aired on Arise Television on Monday, Buhari said he appointed four ministers from the region without knowing them from Adam, hence he was fair. He said: “Somebody made an observation (and I made it clear for the first time) that I was not patronising the Igbo from the south-east. I took the paper from him, I told him that when I won the election, I studied the amount of votes I got from all the geopolitical zones. Source: Daily Post

Investors have debubked the claim that President Muhammadu Buhari's family has shares in two organisations - The investors claimed that the sales of the two organisations were transparent and there was no hidden buyer A group of investors in Lagos state has debunked the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that family of President Muhammadu Buhari owns shares in Etisalat and Keystone bank. The group condemned the opposition party, PDP, for the claim and insisted that the sales of two companies followed due processes with the involvements of industries regulators. Leadership reports that the group of investors led Michael Akekehgon, who spoke on behalf of the group said the process of selecting preferred bidders for Etisalat was opened and transparent. He said: “For instance, after about a year of back and forth struggle, process of selecting a preferred bidder for the sale of 9Mobile, formerly Etisalat, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) jointly, in their roles as regulators opted for an innovative approach to deal with a distressed company – 9mobile operated by Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services Limited (EMTS) which its predecessor, Mubadala Group, Etisalat International brand pulled out of the country due to massive debt. “Whoever that is in doubt of the ownership structure of both Etisalat and Keystone Bank, have the liberty to verify his or her claim at the CAC." FG to Commercialise 3 National Parks to diversify economy- Conservator-General The Conservator-General of Nigeria National Park Service (NNPS), Alhaji Ibrahim Goni says the Federal Government is set to commercialise three National Parks to key into the Economy Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) to diversify the economy. Goni made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja. The Conservator-General, who was recently awarded Fellow of Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN) said that the thrust of ERGP was the diversification of the economy from oil and agriculture to tourism. “National Council on Privatisation has identified three major parks out of the seven to be partially commercialise and a transaction adviser has been appointed who will very soon swing into action. “The three national parks are the GashakaGumti National Park between Taraba and Adamawa, Kainji Lake National Park between Niger and Kwara and Cross River National Park in Cross River. “This is trying to bring up the national park so that they can be equal in standard with others in parts of the world like South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, US, UK and the rest of them. “It is aimed at trying to key into the Economy Recovery and Growth Plan of the current administration,’’ Goni said. The NNPS boss said a lot of transformation was ongoing at the service, adding that uniform ethics is being enforced at the service. “If you observed my men, you will see them in uniform, this is because the service has become paramilitary since 2014; we are also reforming the infrastructure.’’ Goni admonished HATMAN to build bridge and collaborate with NPS, Nigerian Immigration Services, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation and other stakeholders to boost the tourism sector and generate more revenue for the country.
