Pls house help me. I want to run a masters program in unilag but don't know how to go about it. I have a bsc in banking and finance second class lower from university of Benin. I would love a masters or Msc in accounting or any other finance related course. How do I go about it. Also what's the duration for masters or Msc program in unilag. you are eligible for various finance and accounting courses with your first degree. just wait for the form to be out in june, then you can apply for the course. Meanwhile make sure you get updated and latest info on the goings about the school pg program.

degrees from any NUC accredited private university is eligible in unilag pg admissions.
So, Joseph Ayo Babalola University is cool.

However, your first degree and your intended degree are in two different faculties which will need a pgd.
so you cannot do Msc Theater directly.

Yes, you can apply for both. But be aware that both are not academic masters in Unilag, but professional masters.

But you are very much qualified, regardless your class of degree.

Dont chose a course because of your Bsc degree alone.

its not compulsory that you must read in masters level what you read in undergrad level.

The world is evolving.
careers are shifting. look at your interest and your career and find a microscopic aspect you can dominate or play very well.

Three things you should think about as you chose your careers are:

a. Think application

b. Think independence

c. Think diversification

Careers of yesterday are giving way to more applicable-solution oriented careers in the current Eco-space.

My simple advise - Dont read anything you cannot apply.

Employers are getting smart and strict - demands are highers

The job market demand more... than paper qualification.

Application is the new king.

What you should do?

Research how your Bsc course can be applied in any organization to create growth and change and see if you can further in that line.

Dont get information from people who dont even understand having a master degree talk-less the intricate details of career management advisory info.

With a Bsc(ed) Business Education, the options you put out are good, but the mmp is preferable.

Managerial psychologists are getting upper hand in HR profession because of the added benefit which they have in assisting with organizational development.

The two professions have enough similarities that career selection should be a matter of personal preference

As a fresher its good to start with the basics of HR, that is where IRPM stands tall... but if youre already experienced in HR, then the next level is managerial psychology.

MMP can help you operate independently as an HR consultant for corporate coys and more.

In Unilag MMP is a offered as a Masters course not as MSc.

I hope you know the difference.

Lastly, your degree only qualifies you for MILR and MMP but not IRPM

The Pg fees ranges from N60k - N1.8m
Depending on the course. So i would like to know which course you're interested in so I could tell you specifically

1. Eligibility for Your Proposed Course of Study

Unilag Pg does not allow you to do some courses with your Bsc. While there are more than 120 courses available for any applicant.
You must be certain you are qualified.

For example.

If you have an HND, you are so limited to just 3 courses:

1. MBA

2. Project Management

3. Biomedical Engineering

And not many people would want to read these courses.

so what do you do?

HND is mostly a no-no.

But all BSC are welcomed, even if you got your BSC from a state school or private University.

Also graduates from NOUN can also apply to Unilag Pg programme

Disqualification:

I know a lot of people who scored above the cut-off point in various exams conducted in the last 7 years and were disqualified- just because they didnt meet the school requirement.

E.g Bsc Engineering cannot apply for Msc Computer Science directly, you should first apply via pgd else you will be denied.

Likewise, so many restrictions. You need to know and be informed adequately so you dont make a mistake.

A lady called me last year and asked if she could apply for MSC in Engineering with her PGD certificate from another school?

I told her Unilag frowns at PGD from other schools. She was shocked.

She then said, ok let her use her HND cert.

I told her no way. she later said but UI allows such.

I told her I know, but that is Unilag for you.

So its better you know your eligibility status.

I've a current case of one of my students who just checked his result and he scored 70+ but will be denied admission because he was not qualified with his BSC course - the guy is almost weeping!

The solution I propose is to find the courses out there you can do with your Bsc degree.

and i will tell you for free, there are so many courses that each degree has access to, dont be tied to one.


These are powerful combos you could do if only you have the right info, and i will be sharing some of them with you on this thread.

Take Bsc Economics For example

BSc Economics graduates has loads of courses they can combined with their Bsc and make a hot selling combo out of it.

Before you chose a course, look at the job market, and the trends, dont stick to your old ways or what Jamb forced you to read.

Go for your passion and your purpose.

Do what you love.

With the right counsel you can make good judgement.

1. Academic masters e.g M.Sc or MA
2. Masters by research e.g M.Phil
3. Professional masters -e.g MBA



MSC vs Professional:

Here are some differences:

Academic Masters degrees (M.Sc or M.A.)

1. Academic masters programs consist of advanced studies in an academic discipline.

2. They provide an introduction to research and advanced study at the doctoral level.

3. This degree is suitable for people who wish to know more theoretical research concerning their field and work towards a PhD in their area of specialty.

4. MSc/MA is 100% research and academic work.


Professional degrees.

1. professional masters degree are mostly terminal in nature.

2. They teach career-oriented skills and people who earn professional degrees usually move higher the ladder after graduation.

3. it focuses on job skills.

4. If you want to use it for doctorate, you will have to go back and do an M.phil or Msc.

5. They are industry-driven courses like MBA, MPIA, MPH, GIS, MFM, MEM, MIT etc

These will do for now.

The course has not being on offer for more than 5 years now, so i will advise you pick another course or another school if you still insist on Msc Geology.
The Lecturers are easily pouch by Oil firms so they dont stay for long...lol
