The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday said it had recovered an amount more than N196m on financial crimes during various operations in Borno between the period of November 2015 till date.

The EFCC Head of Operation in the state, Ibrahim Bappa, in a statement said that the commission also recovered N2.8 million for victims as a result of petitions received and acted upon in the zone.

Petrol sells for more than N145 per litre in 15 states
We can recall that the federal government gave an assurance that the price of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) also known as petrol will reduce from N145 per litre. But the reverse has been the case in 15 states of the federation as it is been sold above the price from last September's data shown by the the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

The record from the NBS shows that Cross River State led the price table with N154.6, accompanied by Kaduna which sells for N151.8, while Kogi occupies the third position with the price of N150.4.

Although it was not clear whether he will return home immediately being that legal proceedings concerning the confiscation of his assets worth millions of dollars were unresolved. They were supposed to have been resolved years ago, but have ground to a halt due to the allegations of police corruption and the prospect of Ibori taking his case to the Court of Appeal. A London court was on Friday told that Ibori would file an appeal against his conviction on the grounds of corruption on the parts of the British police and lawyers who were involved in his case.

Rivers state teachers to shut down schools due to seven months unpaid salaries
Rivers State teachers union have made their grievances known by threatening to shut down schools due to the negligence of the government towards their unpaid seven months salaries. The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Rivers State Wing, revealed this in a communiqué after its State Executive Council meeting during the weekend.

In a statement, the NUT state Chairman, Mr. Nkpogone Dumnataah and the Secretary, Dr. Okechukwu Nwachukwu, said the union came to a resolution that members of the union will be called out of the classrooms if the situation remains the same 24 days after resumption. The union urged its members to go ahead and resume academic activities as the session begins on Wednesday, but if the government refuse to attend to their demand within the period stated ealier, they vowed to stop academic activities.

Nigeria has produced a best medical student in a sudanese university and that is the person of Dr Islamiyat Oluwatoyin Abdulkadir. An orphan since the age of six. she emerged the overall best graduating medical student at the International University of Africa, Khartoum, Sudan.

In a telephone interview from Sudan, Abdulkadir, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN), in her statement said her academic achievements so far, seemed like a miracle.

She said “My academic achievement so far till today, seems like a miracle to me. Not only that, my life as a whole, is a pack of miracles,”.

She said that her late mother, became a widow when she was still young, she was just barely 3years old. Her beloved mother enrolled her at the Ad-din International Group of schools where she started her primary education.

According to her, her mother later died when she was six years old. As at then, she was still in primary school left alone with her grandmother who she singlehandedly took care of. Her hopes of furthering her education vanished into the thin air.
