Health / World Malaria Day: Health Service Providers Gift Drugs, Mosquito Nets, Others To by Kamal26: 11:00am On Apr 29
To combat malaria and promote community health, Green Life Pharmaceuticals, Clearline HMO, Clinix Healthcare, and Green Life Hospital joined forces to gift mosquito nets, free tests, and treatments to residents of the Iwaya community in Yaba, Lagos.

Speaking at the event held at the Oba Palace, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Clearline HMO, Olaoye Olubukola, said the outreach to commemorate World Malaria Day was aimed at helping the community reduce malaria-related morbidity and mortality rates.

"The purpose here is to help residents of Iwaya community to reduce the risk of having malaria to the barest minimum. And that is why we're speaking with the people, doing tests, treatments, giving drugs and mosquito nets to them. Malaria is deadly and we must minimise the risk for them," Olubukola said.

Head of Marketing and Sales, Clinix Healthcare, Folake Obatoyinbo, who cited the rising cost of living in Nigeria, said preventing malaria is more economical than managing it.

She said the propensity of contracting malaria in the community is quite high, hence, the importance of urging residents of the community to keep their drainages and environment clean as well as timely usage of mosquito-treated nets being handed to them.

General Manager, Sales and Marketing at Green Life Pharmaceuticals, Derrick Osondi, said the companies involved in the outreach have been consistent in their commitment to combating malaria, prioritising the people's health over profits.

He said, “Yes we do sell Anti-malaria our main products are anti-malaria, but still we don’t want to be seen as a company that is only interested in profit. We are also interested in people, so if there is anything we can do to prevent malaria so people don’t have to die from it, we’ll do it. It’s people above profit."

The Olu of Iwaya, Oba Suleiman Owolabi Ogun-Oloko, who noted flooding and blocked drainages are the major causes of malaria in the community, said the intervention of the health companies will be impactful.

Health / World Malaria Day by Kamal26: 10:30pm On Apr 28, 2023
ClearlineHMO in partnership with Greenlife Pharmaceuticals and Clinix Healthcare gives free malaria tests and treatment to the Lagos Makoko community.

Residents of the Makoko community in the Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State were on Tuesday being world malaria day was tested and treated for malaria.

This was part of events organised by Clearline HMO in conjunction with Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Clinix Healthcare to mark 2023 World Malaria Day.

At the event, themed, "Ready 2 beat Malaria,' residents both young and old were educated on malaria, its cause, prevention, and how to get treated when down with the disease.

Asked why Makoko was chosen for the scheme, a representative of Clearline HMO,(Dr. Chris Nkwoji said the community was chosen because its riverine nature makes it prone to mosquitoes that cause malaria.

He said, "As you can see, it is a riverine community which means they are exposed to mosquito bites. It is also a densely populated area. So, the essence of this is to educate them about the menace of mosquito bites and malaria. We will also test them for malaria, treat and give drugs to those who tested positive for the disease. They will also be getting mosquito nets. We have over a thousand residents of this community registered for this event. This is part of the corporate social responsibility of the companies involved."

The Business Development Manager, Clinix Healthcare, Tolulope Adeniyi said the theme for the scheme is to beat malaria by equipping Makoko residents with the necessary materials to the effect.

"This starts with people having an understanding of the root cause of malaria which is mosquito. Considering this community, the environment is mosquito infested because mosquitoes have enough spots to lay their eggs and hatch them. But when people are educated about the disease, they will want to clean their drainages regularly and take necessary precautions to ensure that mosquitoes are reduced in and out of the house. Today, the residents will be getting tested and that's why Clinix Healthcare as a diagnostic center is available. Clearline HMO is also here and Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Ltd to supply drugs to test who test positive for malaria."
