There is a strange feeling or perception people have when you say or write the word "Biafra" in Nigeria.

Even those who do not know the real gist of Biafra apart from the tales of their parents or grandparents don't want to hear Biafra.

They call you names or just dismiss you as Biafran as if the word "Biafra" should be an anathema.

Some go as far as calling you bigot or tribalist for writing about Biafra or mentioning anything related to the Nigerian Civil War.

Those are the enemies of a liberal, egalitarian and civilized Nigeria.

It's an unfortunate thing that a people are happy to easily write and talk about Rwanda, the Gulf War, Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust, but they would crawl back into taciturnity the moment Biafra is mentioned.

Do you know why? Because the story of Biafra and the cause of that war pierce the consciences of those whose past actions have helped in creating the sort of Nigeria we have today. No one wants to be reminded of their evils.

Biafra is the nightmare of the present Nigeria. It is the sword of Damocles, hanging through the head of a nation of unrepentant atrocious leaders.

If you feel ashamed or scared to write or talk about Biafra, but have no problems discussing other nations' histories, ask yourself if you are not a coward!

Biafra is our history. We must study it, learn from it or keep matching to perdition.

It is refreshing to hear Obasanjo, Theo Danjuma and those who killed truth and liberty while fighting on the side of hegemony, imperialism and slavery, crying about the demon they helped create.

Only the truth sets free. All they need to do is to keep it coming. Keep saying the truth. Let Nigerians know that they had been lied to.
