Sports / See The Best Images From Chelsea’s Friendly Clash With Paris Saint-germain by kardiason(m): 3:53pm On Jul 26, 2015
Chelsea bounced back from their shock defeat to New York Red Bulls with a victory over Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.

Both teams had strong sides out as they drew 1-1 in 90 minutes, before the Blues won the resulting shootout 6-5.

Victor Moses, who is wanted by Tottenham this summer, according to reports, got Chelsea’s equaliser after Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring.

And in the end the Blues had shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois to thank for their victory as he saved Thiago Silva’s penalty and then scored one of his own in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sports / Man United Take On Barcelonar In The International Champions Cup (25/07/15) by kardiason(m): 4:35pm On Jul 25, 2015
Manchester United face a stern test in the International Champions Cup as the third leg of Tour 2015, presented by Aon, pits the Reds against Treble-winning Barcelona in Santa Clara. The match at Levi's Stadium, the 68,500-capacity home of the San Francisco 49ers, is a sell-out and kicks off on Saturday at 13:00 PDT (21:00 BST).
Barcelona lifted the Champions League trophy for the third time in seven seasons when defeating Juventus 3-1 in Berlin last month, with the other two triumphs during that period both coming at the expense of United. Remarkably, for all their recent glory, Barça did not win Europe's biggest prize until 1992 when Ronald Koeman's free-kick overcame Sampdoria at Wembley.

Sports / Outgoing FIFA President Sepp Blatter Offered Work Placement At Radio Yorkshire by kardiason(m): 10:56pm On Jul 23, 2015
Sepp Blatter could be set for a future in local radio, after Radio Yorkshire offered the outgoing FIFA president a work placement at the company.
The 79-year-old, who will stand down from his role on February 26 when a successor will be elected, suggested he is hoping for a career in radio journalism once his term comes to an end.
And Radio Yorkshire have wasted no time in offering him a way into the industry.
Speaking during a weekly interview with former Leeds United chairman Ken Bates, director of broadcasting at Radio Yorkshire Sam Brydges said: "We would like to offer Sepp Blatter a work placement opportunity here at Radio Yorkshire next summer, when his commitments at FIFA have ceased, to get a good snapshot of the industry.
"If he is serious about wanting to be a radio journalist, then there is not a more serious place to learn than here at Radio Yorkshire."
Bates added: "What you are offering is a job placement opportunity for two weeks, here, at Elland Road and he can find out how to be a proper broadcaster, and perhaps how to answer questions and commentate clearly and openly without confusing the audience.
"I believe Sam has even generously offered to provide him with accommodation in case he can't afford to pay for his own for the two weeks in Leeds.
"When he returns to Zurich he can be the European commentator on the European political scene. I think it's a very generous offer on your part, Sam, and I think Mr Blatter would be very wise to take it up."
The offer came about after Blatter, who was previously a member of the International Association of Sports Journalists, said in a press conference in Zurich last week of his desire to rejoin the media.
"I think the radio is the most popular form of information because it's 24 hours and everybody can listen, and if you are travelling all around the world, you always hear radio," he said.
"It's easier to speak than to write."

Sports / Siasia Calls Dream Team Wasteful by kardiason(m): 10:44pm On Jul 19, 2015
Nigeria’s Under-23 team head coach, Samson Siasia has admitted that his side were wasteful against their counterparts from Congo Brazzaville.
The Dream Team V1 managed a 2-1 win against their Central African opponents in the 2016 Olympic qualifying clash on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Shooting Stars Sports Club marksman, Junior Ajayi scored a brace for Nigeria while forward, Nkounkou Moise pulled one back for the Congolese side.
Siasia said the side have lot of work to do on their finishing before they head off to Pointe Noire for the decisive clash in fortnight.
“We missed lot of chances in the 2-1 victory against the Congolese Under-23 opposite.
“We could have scored more than four unreplied goals in the encounter to actually make the reverse fixture a bit easier.
“However, I strongly believe the boys played very well, we will certainly work on the mistakes especially the finishing before the second leg clash in Brazzaville.
“I have quality players that can survive the onslaught in the reverse fixture in Congo,” said the former Super Eagles manager to supersport.com.
The aggregate winner of the two-legged encounter will qualify for the eight-nation Caf Under-23 Olympic championship in Senegal where the topmost three teams will pick automatic slots for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fourth placed side will engage in a tedious playoff to decide its fate.
Nigeria did not qualify for the men’s football event of the immediate past London 2012 Games.

Sports / Sterling Has Expressed His Disappointment With The Manner Of His Liverpool Exit by kardiason(m): 10:25pm On Jul 18, 2015
Raheem Sterling has expressed his disappointment with the manner of his Liverpool exit.
The England international left fans of the Merseyside club furious with the way he and agent Aidy Ward handled his £49million move to Manchester City.
Sterling insists he left Anfield on good terms with players and club staff, but the 20-year-old concedes the situation could have been handled better.
"I was a bit disappointed how I left. That was the main problem I've had with the situation - how I've left it with Liverpool,” he said, speaking to FoxSports.
"I'm good with everyone at the football club, the manager, the players and I wish them well for the new season. But it was really disappointing how it did finish off."
Sterling has been accused of moving to City only for money, but he maintains he is motivated by trophies, not financial rewards.
The starlet, who is in Australia for City’s pre-season tour, added: "From the first moment I heard City were interested in me [I wanted to join], purely because of the direction the football club is going in.
"I've met all my team-mates now and it's been a really good few days, they've made me feel welcome and I'm really happy to be here. I think I made the right decision.

Sports / We Are Interested In Stones - Mourinho by kardiason(m): 9:44pm On Jul 18, 2015
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has admitted his club have made a bid for John Stones and says any deal for the defender is in Everton's hands. The Toffees are believed to have rejected a bid of around £20m for the 21-year-old, who played in Everton's 3-1 Asia Trophy final defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.
Mourinho told Sky Sports News: "We made a bid because we like the player, we don't make bids for players we don't like - but I respect Everton. It's up to them - everything is in their hands. I don't speak about him (Stones) because he's not my player. We've made the bid and the bid is there. Everton have the power to accept or refuse the bid.
"This is a problem between John Stones and Everton. When the transfer window is open, every club and player is open to bids. Bids come for our players and we make bids for other players. The process can be so simple. I would advise Roberto Martinez to do the same thing I do. If I don't want to accept any offer, I say 'I don't accept any offer'. He can make it very, very easy."
Martinez expressed his frustration that news of the bid had become public. The Spaniard said after his team's game in Singapore: "There is the disappointment of a club making a statement to the press and making it openly. I don't think we'd do it and speak about a player. John Stones is an Everton player, full stop."

Sports / The Anti-keshi Makes A Rod For His Own Back - Sunday Oliseh by kardiason(m): 9:25pm On Jul 18, 2015
It’s easy to understand the sense of optimism that has accompanied Sunday Oliseh’s arrival in the Nigeriahotseat.
The coach is already a Super Eagles legend, possesses that happy combination of freshness and familiarity—as I explored in a recent editorial—and isn’t tarnished by the national team’s decline over the last 18 months.
What encourages me the most is the fact that—for the first time in a long time—both coach and NFF appear to be on the same page.
There appears to be a mutual understanding, warmth and respect between Amaju Pinnick and his chosen one, and this united front, this singularity of direction and combined approach ought to serve the team well. This is something, of course, that appeared to never truly exist between Keshi and Pinnick—admittedly made difficult after the inauspicious start to their relationship—and which will hopefully avoid the unwanted embarrassments and distractions that plagued the team over the last 10 months.
However, despite the early optimism that accompanied Oliseh’s arrival—and ought to accompany him into the future—one comment made by the new man was of some concern.
It is a statement already considered by my colleague Solace Chukwu, but one which demands further consideration.
The new coach stated that—with the sole exception if impressive players from the youth sides—that only players from ‘first divisions’ home and abroad would be considered for selection.
The announcement was largely received by the media as a major positive step by the new coach; as a statement of intent, as a guarantor of quality and as an assurance that only the best players would be considered for the national side.
One respected journalist even described it as a major hurdle which had been overcome, and a sign that the odd selection decisions that had undermined previous coaches would be a thing of the past.

Chelsea were crowned champions with three league games still to play as Jose Mourinho's side racked up an imposing 87 points, while going the entire campaign unbeaten at home.
But while Henry - who stars in Sky Sports' TV advert for the new football season - thinks the champions will start as favourites to regain their title, the former Arsenal striker believes Chelsea's rivals will put up a far stronger fight than in the previous campaign.
Here's how Henry thinks Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool will all fare when the Premier League season gets under way on August 8...

Sports / Benteke To Liverpool, Now by kardiason(m): 4:46pm On Jul 16, 2015
Well, well. We've covered Christian Benteke to Manchester United and Roma this morning, but Liverpool have clearly briefed the media that they will be meeting Benteke's £32.5m release clause.

After the Raheem Sterling money hit Liverpool's bank account, it seemed that the move would be on. United's reported interest was presumably engineered by Villa types to force Liverpool's hand.

So how do Liverpool fans feel about this? What happens to Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings now?
