It emerged at the weekend that recent outbursts by former
President Olusegun Obasanjo against President Goodluck
Jonathan stemmed from the latter’s refusal to implement a
proposal from the former president in respect of the 2015
elections.


Sources in Abuja revealed that the former president had sent
emissaries and also whispered to Jonathan that he would back
his 2015 ambition if he (Jonathan) agreed to drop Vice-
President Namadi Sambo as his running mate.
It was gathered that the former president had spoken in
favour of Jonathan fielding Jigawa State governor, Sule
Lamido, as his running mate.

A source confirmed that some common friends of the former
president and Jonathan who attempted to talk Obasanjo into
dropping his opposition against the president were told that
he (Jonathan) had to agree to drop Sambo as his running
mate.


It was also confirmed that the former president had
confirmed the proposal at a recent encounter between him
and Jonathan.


A source said the president was told that he would be on the
same page with Obasanjo, if he agreed to pick Lamido as his
running mate in 2015 and dropped Sambo.
Sources also confirmed the development, saying that
Jonathan was, however, non-committal.


“The president could not give Obasanjo any affirmative
answer, because he believes that the request was
uncalled for,” a source said.


Sources also revealed that Jonathan believed that dropping
Sambo would open a new fiat of trouble for his camp.
“You don’t try and solve a problem and create another in
the process,” a source said, adding that Sambo had worked
assiduously with Jonathan without frictions.

Ziona Chana hasa has 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-
law and 33 grandchildren. They all live with him in his hotel-like
100-room, four-story house perched among the hills of
Baktwang village in the Indian state of Mizoram.

One year, he married ten wives. Two of them sisters. His 39
wives say they are blessed to have him and take turns to share
his bed.

The family is organised with almost military discipline, with the
oldest wife Zathiangi organising her fellow partners to perform
household chores such as cleaning, washing and preparing

Coincidentally, Mr Chana is said to head a sect that allows
members to take as many wives as they want.

A bomb explosion was reported to have gone off at Kano
central mosque this afternoon as Muslim faithfuls were
holding their Friday Jumat service. It was reported that it is
the usual mosque the emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido usually
leads prayers but he was not present this afternoon. Its said
that many were feard dead and many more have been
injured.

However, latest report reveals that at least 120 people were
killed and 270 others wounded on Friday when two suicide
bombers blew themselves up and gunmen opened fire during
weekly prayers at the mosque of one of Nigeria’s top Islamic
leaders.

The attack at the Grand Mosque in Kano, the biggest city in the
mainly Muslim north of the country, came just as Friday
prayers had started.
The mosque is attached to the palace of the Emir of Kano
Muhammad Sanusi II, Nigeria’s second most senior Muslim
cleric, who last week urged civilians to take up arms against
Boko Haram.

The blasts came after a bomb attack was foiled against a
mosque in the northeastern city of Maiduguri earlier on
Friday, five days after two female suicide bombers killed over
45 people in the city.

National police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu told AFP that
the bombers blew themselves up in quick succession then
“gunmen opened fire on those who were trying to escape”.
Ojukwu said he did not know whether the suicide bombers
were male or female, after a spate of attacks by women in
recent months, and did not give an exact figure on the
number of gunmen.


But he said an angry mob killed four of the shooters in the
chaotic aftermath. Witnesses in the city said they were set on
fire.
– Influential figure –
An AFP reporter at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital
morgue counted 92 bodies, most of them men and boys with
blast injuries and severe burns.
As night fell, hundreds of people were desperately trying to
use the lights on their mobile phones to identify loved ones.
But a senior rescue official said later that there were at least
120 dead and 270 wounded. Emergency workers were still
trying to visit all hospitals, he added.

The Emir of Kano last week told worshippers at the same
mosque that northerners should take up arms against Boko
Haram, which has been fighting for a hardline Islamic state
since 2009.
He also cast doubt on Nigerian troops’ ability to protect
civilians and end the insurgency, in rare public comments by
a cleric on political and military affairs.


The emir, who is currently thought to be out of the country, is
a hugely influential figure in Nigeria, which is home to more
than 80 million Muslims, most of whom live in the north.
Officially the emir is the country’s number two cleric, behind
the Sultan of Sokoto, and any attack could inflame tensions in
Nigeria’s second city, which is an ancient seat of Islamic
learning.
Sanusi was named emir earlier this year and is a prominent
figure in his own right, having previously served as the
governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
During his time in charge of the CBN, he spoke out against
mive government fraud and was suspended from his post in
February just as his term of office was drawing to a close.
– Previous attacks –


Boko Haram has repeatedly attacked Kano. On November 14,
a suicide bomb attack at a petrol station killed six people,
including three police.
The Islamists have a record of attacking prominent clerics. In
July 2012 a suicide bomber killed five people leaving Friday
prayers at the home of the Shehu of Borno in Maiduguri.
The Shehu is Nigeria’s number three Islamic leader.
Boko Haram threatened Sanusi’s predecessor and the Sultan
of Sokoto for allegedly betraying the faith by submitting to the
authority of the secular government in Abuja.
In early 2013, the convoy of Sanusi’s predecessor was also
attacked.


Andrew Noakes, co-ordinator of the Nigeria Security Network
of security analysts, said the attack fit a pattern of violence
targeting religious and traditional leaders seen as “allies” of the
state.

He said it was possible that the group carried out the attack as
a direct response to Sanusi’s comments last week, although it
may have been planned beforehand.
“Whatever the case, the group has sent a message to northern
leaders that crossing them will have consequences,” Noakes
said in an email exchange.
Boko Haram attacks in recent months have ranged from the
far northeast of Nigeria, across the wider north and
northwest, using hit-and-run tactics, suicide bombings and
car bombs.

expressed concern about Boko Haram’s ability to conduct
cross-border strikes, particularly as the dry season

There was drama in Harare on Saturday when a SNAKE
reportedly slithered to an ATM machine at Barclays Angwa
Street and then entered into a car.

Bewilderment and chaos reigned supreme as passers-by
surrounded the car to get a closer view of the snake and its
owner. Others were busy taking photos from the onset and
managed to capture pictures of the snake and the car that it
later entered.

The UNPROVEN reports from the shocked eyewitness are
however conflicting. Some claim the snake ‘withdrew’ cash
from the ATM while others claim it just went to the machine
and returned to the car.
When the bemused crowd mobbed the car and asked the
driver, who had arrived a little while later, to explain the
bizarre occurrence, he professed ignorance and
unperturbedly asked them to release him so he could go home.

” Handizvizve zvamuri kutaura ini ndiregei ndiende kumba( I
don’t know what you are talking about, let me go home),” he
reportedly said.
The mob had no option but to let him go.

The death of Mazi Moses Okoye, the father of super star
musicians, P Square, was so sudden that those who saw him a
few hours before he slumped in the Omole, Ikeja, Lagos
home of his sons are still in shock.


According to Reports, just before the septuagenarian's tragic
death, he was clad in only singlet and boxers, watching cable
television (Africa Magic) with some visitors until about 10 pm
2 days ago (Monday, November 24, 2014) when he
disengaged to his bedroom where he suddenly collapsed. He
was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but he
unfortunately gave up before doctors attended to him.


The Jos (Plateau state)-based Pa Okoye, who left Jos for Lagos
some two weeks ago for a knee surgery, normally had
respiratory (breathing) issues, which many believe might have
led to his death. He had an appointment with his doctor
yesterday (Tuesday, November 25, 2014) over his recent knee
surgery.


Before his death, he had sat upon a thriving ‘pure water’ and
bakery business in Jos. And only two years ago, Pa Okoye lost
his wife, Josephine to cancer. Now, Jude, Paul, Peter, Mary,
Henry, Chris, Tony and their siblings are orphans
