AGAIN, SUPREME COURT VALIDATES ADEBAYO DAYO-LED OGUN STATE PDP EXCO *PERMANENTLY REJECTS LADI ADEBUTU -SIKIRULAI OGUNDELE GROUP’S APPLICATION The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck out an appeal filed for the Oladipupo Adebutu-Sikirulai Ogundele group of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to invalidate the Adebayo Dayo-led Executive of the party in the state. The Notice of Appeal was filed on their behalf by Chief Chris Uche (SAN), with an application praying the Supreme Court for an extension of time to appeal against the judgment of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal which had dismissed an appeal against the judgment of Buba J. of the Federal High Court delivered on the 24th of June, 2016. Justice Buba’s judgment had been delivered in respect of Suit No FHC/L/CS/636/2016 brought by the Dayo -led Exco to stop the National Exco of the PDP from dissolving them and replacing them with a harmonized exco to be led by Ogundele. In that judgment Buba J. ordered the PDP to operate in Ogun State only through the Dayo-led Exco until their term expires in 2020. As the 2019 elections drew near, however, there was a heightened interest to set this judgment aside, especially after Senator Buruji Kashamu became the governorship candidate of the PDP in Ogun State. The Ogundele faction backed by the Prince Uche Secondus-led NWC of the party relied on an affidavit filed by one Barrister Godswill Mrakpor who claimed to have wrongly withdrawn the appeal against the Justice Buba's judgment. On that basis, they applied to relist the appeal and when that failed instructed Mr. Emeka Etiaba (SAN) to appeal to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court struck that appeal out as statute-barred on the 18th of February, 2019. Not satisfied with the situation and apparently in anticipation of congresses for new party excos in 2020, the Adebutu-Ogundele group instructed Chief Chris Uche (SAN) to file another appeal. The application for extension of time to file the new appeal came up today (Tuesday) before the Supreme Court. Chief Chris Uche (SAN), leading other lawyers, tried to introduce the application but soon came under fire when it was pointed out by R.A. Oluyede (counsel to Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Exco) that the appeal was a rehash of the previous one which the Supreme Court had found to be a pre-election matter and therefore statute-barred. Oluyede emphasized that the current appeal was an abuse of process and statute-barred having been found by the Supreme Court to be a pre-election matter. Despite a spirited attempt by Chief Chris Uche (SAN) to distinguish the two appeals the panel presided over by Justice Rhodes Vivour held that the court was bound by its previous decision that the matter was statute-barred. The court thereupon rejected the application for extension of time and struck out the appeal as statute-barred. One of the justices remarked that “there must be an end to litigation”. With this latest decision of the apex court - the second in six months - the battle for the control of the soul of the PDP in Ogun State has been permanently resolved in favour of the Dayo-led Exco, which has the backing of Senator Buruji Kashamu who was the party's governorship candidate in the 2019 general election. |
OF POLITICIANS, POETRY & PROSE By Austin Oniyokor It was the former Governor of New York Mario Cuomo that said politicians “Campaign in poetry, but govern in prose”. Since the news broke yesterday that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has denied saying that he would resolve or clear the Apapa gridlock in 60 days, this popular Cuomo’s quote has continued to pop up in my head. For anyone who studied the arts or appreciates, the import of this saying should sink in. Poetry are sweet to the ears, especially when read to you. However, with prose, you are more deliberate. Now, to the issue: Although I was not altogether surprised at Governor Sanwo-Olu’s denial because I had always known that after the initial euphoria or gragra, reality would set in and the new helmsmen would begin to recoil and recant. The experience is the same. From Lagos to Imo, Oyo to Kwara, Adamawa to Bauchi states. Where they are not recanting, they are either reversing one action or the other of their predecessors, or engaging in needless media war over projects and/or pronouncements. Whilst I do not want to argue or haggle over whether or not he said so or not, like the lawyers would say “res ipsa locuitor”. Our politicians and leaders should learn to be circumspect when they speak. American author Jodi Picoult said, “Words are like eggs dropped from great heights; you can no more call them back than ignore the mess they leave when they fall.” Assuming without conceding that Governor Sanwo-Olu never promised to resolve the Apapa traffic gridlock in 60 days, why did it take him this long – exactly one month – before denying the statement? How about his comments on the same Apapa gridlock at the governorship debate organized by the “The Platform”? On that occasion, he said, “Within the first 100 days, I will tackle the gridlock at Apapa. I will need to clear up all the traffic and all the trailers at Apapa. I’ll make sure it’s a nightmare we will not see again.” Was our Governor also misquoted or quoted out of context? Or didn’t he say so at all? It would also be recalled that when he visited the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Governor Sanwo-Olu recently he made some promises and declarations. For me, the two headliners were that: he would increase their allowances by 100 percent and that even if his brother commits a traffic offence, he should be arrested. Buoyed by these sound bites, LASTMA personnel, aided by the Police have practically been on the prowl since last week or so. While I do not support indiscipline on our roads, the emphasis on punitive measures disguised as enforcement is, to my mind, misplaced. The potholes on our roads should have been fixed and the street gates and inner-roads opened up with the provision of adequate security and enlightenment campaigns before anyone can rightly talk of enforcement. The other day, I heard a mobile court ordered that two traffic offenders should forfeit their vehicles to the Lagos State Government for driving against traffic. Isn’t that too harsh? How is that corrective? What if the vehicle is the only means of livelihood of those concerned? If the trend continues, will it not send more people into the unemployment market with attendant security implications? On a personal note, I had a taste of a combined team of LASTMA personnel and some policemen on my way to work early yesterday morning. I was approaching the Anthony Village Bus Stop by Shodex Garden when a Policeman flagged me down. I stopped, thinking he wanted to cross the road or meant to use me to stop a supposed traffic offender behind me. He asked me to wind down. I did. Before I knew it, another of his colleague had jumped into the front passenger side. I asked him what was the problem and he said I should park and I obeyed, wondering what was amiss. And then, he fired, “oga, why were you using your phone?” Although, I was in utter shock, I managed to ask him, “how and when?” In seconds, other members of the team in mufti and LASTMA uniforms had swarmed round me. Quickly, I brought out my phone and told them “It’s 7:01am and you claimed that I was using my phone while driving. Now, let’s check my call logs to see if I made any calls at that point or anytime close to when you alleged I did.” Upon seeing that I never made any calls at the time they accused me of doing so or anytime close to it, they stormed out of my car and left in shame. But, I disembarked and told them that if I did not put a lie to their claim that was how I would have been roped into what I never I did. I told them that their conduct was as disdainful as it was criminal. One of them threatened to slap me if I did not get into my car and leave the scene. By then, I had identified one of the policemen as Olaitan Samuel. Yes, I got into my car and left the scene, but the thoughts of that incident and what fate could have befallen me could not leave me. Put together, my experience and those of other Lagosians who may not be predisposed to sharing their experiences or holding our leaders accountable could be said to lend credence to axiom that truly politicians “Campaign in poetry, but govern in prose”. Perhaps, our political leaders should be a lot more circumspect when they speak. They should not allow the pressure and/or pleasure of the office they seek or are elected into to push them to say things that they may not be able to do or deliver on – as promised. As it is said, it is better to under promise and over deliver rather than over promise and under deliver! |
Ogun PDP mourns ex-governorship aspirant Awosedo The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commiserated with the family of its former governorship aspirant and businessman, Mr. Olajide Awosedo, over his death. He reportedly died on Tuesday at the age of 68. In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta and signed by its Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo, the party described the late Awosedo as a "gentleman politician and a rare gem who will be missed by all that knew him". "Chief Awosedo was a true democrat. An achiever par excellence. He was among the aspirants that fought for the governorship ticket of our party in the build up to the 2011 governorship election. When he saw that he could not realise his ambition on the platform of the PDP, he joined the Labour Party where he eventually contested the 2011 governorship election." The party said the political class and indeed all indigenes of Ogun State and beyond that Awosedo touched their lives in one way or another will surely miss him. "But, we cannot query the Almighty God. He is the giver of life and to Him, we shall all return," it added. The party condoled with the Awosedo family on the irreplaceable loss and prayed God to grant him eternal rest. |

KASHAMU: I REMAIN IN PDP…BUT LET’S UNITE FOR OGUN 1. I wish to once again express my profound gratitude to the good people of Ogun State, particularly the traditional rulers, Baales, religious and political leaders, elders, various interest groups, the electorate and all the stakeholders, for the immeasurable advice, support, solidarity and words of encouragement before, during and after the 2019 general elections. 2. Since my venture into politics, I have had many experiences but the 2019 general elections trump them all. Yet, I am grateful to the Almighty Allah that I did not lose any member of my team during the process. 3. There have been insinuations in various quarters about my political stance and future. Let me state in unequivocal terms that when I joined active politics over a decade ago, it was on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I have remained in the PDP. I have not defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and I do not intend to do so. 4. However, the elections are over and winners have emerged. As a true Muslim, I believe the emergence of any leader is divinely-ordained. Therefore, my position has always been that whenever there is a contest and a winner emerges, we all owe it a duty to God and our people to support the leader to succeed, if our primary motive for seeking public office was to serve the people. 5. My brother and friend, Prince Dapo Aboidun (MFR) has emerged as the Governor-elect of Ogun State. By virtue of his position, he has become the leader of our dear state. We, as stakeholders, leaders and followers, have a duty to support him and make him succeed. Any attempt to pull him down or distract him will not augur well for our dear state. Indeed, it will be tantamount to pulling back our own state. 6. Upon his emergence, Prince Abiodun, like a true democrat, extended a hand of fellowship to all well-meaning sons and daughters of Ogun State, irrespective of party affiliations and leanings. It is in this context that some of our members were invited to join the Transition Committee and its sub groups. That does not mean they have joined the APC. It is a call to the service of our dear state. Now is the time for governance. When election comes, everyone will bear his father’s name. In fact, that is when we, as stakeholders, leaders and followers, will be justified to juxtapose the achievements with the kind of support that we gave. 7. On our intra-party issues, I wish to categorical state that I am not in competition with anyone. It is clear that our people often exploit the air of internal rivalry and wrangling among us. I am a PDP leader and would remain so. 8. As a proud citizen of Ogun State, I am convinced that we must rise above our personal interests and prejudices and join hands with the incoming Administration to deliver good governance to our people and collectively take Ogun State to Greater Heights. 9. In the meantime, as a political leader and philanthropist, I will continue to contribute my own quota towards the empowerment of our people, especially women and youths through revolving loans for small-scale businesses, car hire purchase scheme and other laudable initiatives under the auspices of Omoilu Foundation. The restructured and rejuvenated offices of the Foundation will soon be reopened at the local government areas, with a view to representing the interest of the three senatorial districts. 10. Given the role sports play in unifying our people, the Foundation is set to sponsor football competition across the 20 local government areas of the state, with a view to promoting grassroots sports. Interested candidates should contact the State Coordinator of Omoilu Foundation, Mr. Adeleke Shittu, on 0805 513 5036 or visit www.omoilufoundation.org, for more details. They can also obtain application forms at all Omoilu offices across the 20 local government areas in Ogun State and the Omoilu Foundation Headquarters in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State. Thank you and God bless. Signed Senator Buruji Kashamu Ogun East Senatorial District |

REMARKS BY OGUN STATE PDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE, SENATOR BURUJI KASHAMU ON THE OUTCOME OF THE 9TH MARCH, 2019 GOVERNORSHIP AND HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 1).The results of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections have just been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). 2). I wish to thank the Almighty God for giving me the grace to be part of the electoral process. I thank God that all through our intra-party struggle and the campaign itself, no life was lost. 3). I also want to thank all the good people of Ogun State for standing by me. I appreciate all those who voted for me and those who did not. 4). My appreciation also goes to the traditional rulers and various religious and interest groups for their support. 5).To everyone who supported me financially and morally, I am eternally grateful. 6). Kudos to my wife, other members of my family; my running mate, Dr. Reuben Abati; the Director-General of the Kashamu-Abati Campaign Organisation, Dr. Remilekun Bakare and everyone who worked at the Campaign Organisation.I appreciate the time and sacrifice that you put into the struggle. 7). Yes, it was a struggle against arbitrariness, injustice and the overbearing attitude of some of our political actors. We put in our best. But, from the outcome of the election, our best was not good enough. May Almighty God take control of the rest. . On the outcome of the election, it was clear to all that while our opponents were on the field, we spent most of the time going in and out of court because some persons think they could use their wealth to ride roughshod over us. We thank God they did not succeed. We fought like men and contested the election against all odds.9). While my friend and brother, Prince Dapo Abiodun had the backing of the Federal Government and the political generalissimo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; Governor Ibikunle Amosun threw his weight and state machinery behind Honourable Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). 10). Like I said during the campaign, I was the candidate of the Almighty God and the masses. I have been a one-man battalion without any federal or state machinery. I did my best to stand for our dear Ogun State, all by myself with the support of a few friends here and there. 11). I thank the Almighty God for how everything has turned out. As a good Muslim, I believe the outcome of the election is the will of Almighty Allah and the good people of Ogun State. 12). And so, I congratulate my friend and brother, Prince Dapo Abiodun on his election as the Governor-elect of Ogun State. 13). I also wish to thank President Muhammadu Buhari, INEC and the security agencies for providing a level-playing field. 14). Like I have always said, once elections have come and gone, and winners have emerged, those elected as President or Governors become the president or governors for all. 15). It is on this note that I wish to urge everyone to support and join hands with the winners to move our dear state and country forward. 16). Thank you and God bless. |
I'll pay unpaid salaries, deductions within 100 days, Kashamu tells Ogun workers The Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Senator Buruji Kashamu has promised to restructure and pay all unpaid salaries and deductions of public workers in the state. In a document entitled: “Our Pact with Ogun workers, traditional rulers, MAPOLY, TASCE and Students of Ogun State”, Kashamu said being a blessed state, there was no need to plunge the state into a "whopping N103 billion debt". “Being a state blessed with abundant human and natural resources, Ogun State should not have been in this situation. That said, my Strategic Economic Management Team has looked at Ogun State finances and come up with a strategic plan to pay up the debts and ensure that going forward, Ogun State will not borrow money for recurrent expenditure.” Kashamu, who is the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, said it was imperative for the government and workers to enjoy a smooth working relationship. "I am deeply saddened and pained seeing many of our hard-working and committed civil/public officers crying, suffering and going through untold hardship due to the diversion of cooperative deductions, denial of leave bonuses and arrears, etc. I want our civil/public officers to know that I stand and empathise with them. “By the grace of God, if I am elected as the Governor of Ogun State, I shall inaugurate a committee made up of members of my team and representatives of the workers to immediately determine the outstanding amount due to the workers and come up with a mutually acceptable payment schedule which shall see to the commencement of disbursements within the first 100 days of my Administration. "Going forward, salaries, cooperative deductions, pensions, e.t.c shall be paid and/or remitted before the end of every month during our tenure in office,” he said. Kashamu spoke on issues surrounding the state’s college of education also known as Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE), saying he will inaugurate a committee to resolve the issues concerning the institution within his first 100 days of assuming office. “The committee's Terms of Reference shall include a diagnostic review of the debts of TASCE and an appreciation of the various challenges militating against the institution with recommendations on how to resolve the challenges facing the institution. "In line with our global objective of making Ogun State free of recurrent expenditure-related debts and other non-developmental debts, a plan would be put in place with clear milestones for the payment of the debts owed the lecturers and workers of TASCE. “I promise that the first payment towards offsetting TASCE's debts shall be done within the first 100 days of our Administration," he said. On the issue of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Kashamu said, "A committee will be set up to include members of the Ogun State House of Assembly and other relevant stakeholders with a view to finding a lasting solution to the issues and the report of the committee and its recommendations must be submitted within 100 days. I commit to a full implementation of the recommendations of the committee." He promised a reduction of tuition fees in public-owned higher institutions within 90 days of his assumption of office. “Scholarship award for outstanding Ogun State students across the country, immediate employment for best graduating students (Ogun State indigenes) from each of our public tertiary institutions, work and study for students of public tertiary institutions in Ogun State. "Prompt and regular payment of bursary to all students, provision and upgrading of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres in the three senatorial districts, free school buses for secondary school students in Ogun State and scholarship for best two (male and female) UTME students." Kashamu also spoke of his plans to support the transportation sector and prevent multiple taxation. “We are aware of the challenges faced by your members in the form of multiple taxation, punitive payments and even extortion. This situation shall be immediately looked into upon our assumption of office with a view to ensuring that fees, charges and levies payable by your members are fair, reasonable and equitable," he said. The candidate restated his desire to reposition the traditional institution and renergise the state’s many communities. "Royal fathers will get their salaries and welfare packages as and when due. While Baales and coronets will be promoted and paid the backlog of their salaries and timeously, going forward. "One of the economic models being worked upon by our Strategic Economic Management Team involves the creation of a credit scheme with affordable terms to help support, grow and modernise your busineses and operations," Kashamu added. |

The ancestors of Ijebu Land and Almighty God, will never forgive any Ijebu sons and daughters, who support the devil called Ibikunle Amosun, on this open robbery, of making a non-Ijebu man or woman, the next Governor of Ogun State. Just for the records, Ogun State is divided into two, The Egbas and the Ijebus. The Egbas consist of Egba and Egbado (now called Yewa) and the Ijebus consist of Ijebu and Ijebu Remo (now Remo). The unwritten gentleman agreement have been the rotation of the office of the governor between the two divisions. For example, Cheif Bisi Onabanjo, an Ijebu man, was succeeded by Chief Segun Osoba, an Egba man. Chief Osoba, was in turn succeeded by Otunba Gbenga Daniel, an Ijebu man, while Gbenga Daniel, was succeeded by Ibikunle Amosun, an Egba man. Let us forget the sentiments that an Egbado person have never been the governor of Ogun State, as being canvassed now! It's a plot to rob we Ijebus of our rightful turn to produce the next Governor of our State. If the Egba's newfound interest were genuine, they should have given Amosun's turn to Yewa. Definitely, let Yewa and/or Egba wait for we Ijebus to have our own turn of 8 years, and after that, when it shall be the turn of Egba/Egbado, they can give it to their twin brother, Egbado (Yewa)! Anything short of this, is an open robbery and a slap on the face of all Ijebus. So all the sons and daughters who are true Ijebus, should wakeup from their slumber or sleep, and rise up to defend our rights. The time is now, otherwise, we Ijebus would be out of the Governor's Office, for 16 consecutive years! God forbid! Please send this message to all our contacts and groups, that have Ijebu blood in them. Thanks. Osi Ijebu, a gbe wa o, Aseeee....... *Concerned Ijebu & Remo citizens* |
Ajalorun endorses Kashamu as Amosun’s successor The Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, His Royal Highness, Oba Adesesan Afolorunsho Oguntayo, has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Buruji Kashamu, as a suitable successor to Governor Ibikunle Amosun. The monarch made the declaration on Thursday when Senator Kashamu paid him a courtesy call at his palace in Ijebu-Ife. "You are a worthy son of Ijebuland. You are our pride. I am in support of your ambition. You have what it takes to lead this state. "You have performed well as a Senator. You are an accomplished businessman. I have no doubt that you will do well as governor," the traditional ruler said. Oba Oguntayo assured Senator Kashamu that the traditional council would mobilise support for the realisation of his ambition. The traditional ruler, who was wowed by Kashamu’s presentation, said he nursed no doubt that he was prepared for the task of taking the state to greater heights. According to the monarch, Senator Kashamu stood head and shoulder above other candidates. Earlier in his address, the PDP governorship candidate thanked the monarch and the chiefs present at the meeting, reiterating his commitment to taking Ogun State to greater heights. "Sirs, Ogun State is blessed with abundant mineral resources. We can create wealth for the state if the resources are well utilised. We shall link Ogun Water Side and Ijebu East with Lagos State, by so doing, we will open our state for investors to come in, thereby providing jobs for our children. "Also, my administration will give financial autonomy to local government authorities, they shall be given their allocations in full. It is the only way they can function well. We shall also strengthen the traditional institutions because the local governments hold the key to the development of the community and the state at large," he said. He also promised that his administration would avail Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of interest-free loans to boost their businesses. The governorship hopeful assured the monarch and others in attendance that within 90 days of resumption as governor, tuition fees in the state-owned tertiary institutions would be scaled down. Speaking further, he said, his development agenda “Will turn around things for the better in the state.”

Purported suspension of Ogun PDP's lawful candidates is inconsequential The attention of the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the news of the purported suspension of the candidates and leaders of the Party in the state. That this laughable and cowardly action was orchestrated by supposed members of the Party less than 48 hours to the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections speaks to their invidious motive. It is doubtful if these elements are truly members of the Party. For one, they having been running from one court to the order seeking validation and legal imprimatur for their illegal actions that have collapsed before their very eyes like a pack of cards. Clearly, these are fifth columnists working in cahoots with some elements outside the PDP. Already, we have heard reports of nocturnal meetings and alliances between them and the powers-that-be in Ogun State. But, we are not pertubed by their antics. They have not availed them in the past and they would not at this time. It is a matter of public knowledge and record that the Supreme Court had on the 11th of February, 2019 struck out the only appeal that they had against the Dayo-led Exco. So, how can an illegal body not know to law claim to have suspended authentic leaders, candidates and members of the party on the 18th of February, 2018? That is one clear week after they lost their appeal against us at the Supreme Court. What is more, Article 57 (6) of our great party’s Constitution 2017 (as amended) states that “Any decision taken against a member who has not been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any opportunity of defending himself shall be null and void.” It should also be noted that the purported suspension/ expulsion of our Party's Governorship Candidate, Senator Buruji Kashamu and the State Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo had been nullified by the FCT High Court since the 10th of October, 2018. In the light of the above, we wish to members of the public, particularly members of our great Party to disregard this latest trick by political desperadoes and wheeler- dealers who have failed to come to terms with the present realities. The Ogun State PDP train has moved on and it is poised to deliver the State to the Party with or without these elements. Signed Malik Ibitoye State Publicity Secretary 21.02.19 |
Hundreds of ADC members defect to PDP in Ogun...as Abati, others campaign in Yewa North No fewer than 1,000 members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State have defected from the party and pledged their allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defectors, who were led by Pastor Adetunde Joseph from Oungbe Ward, Ita-Oba, Iselu, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, were received into the PDP when party leaders, including the State Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo; the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr. Reuben Abati and the Director-General of the Organisation, Aare Remi Bakare, led others on campaigns to Igbogila, Ketu and Ayetoro communities, all in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Pastor Joseph said he and others decided to leave the ADC because they did not want to belong to a party that does not have a presidential candidate. He added that they also did not want to be left out of PDP's victory train, which, he said, the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senator Buruji Kashamu represented. Addressing the people, Dayo urged them to support the PDP to restore the state's lost glory. He assured that Senator Kashamu was set to "take Ogun State to Greater Heights", if elected. "Senator Kashamu is a successful entrepreneur and a philanthropist of note whose major concern is the welfare of the people. He has performed excellently well as the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly. He is willing to replicate his selfless performance across the three senatorial districts in Ogun State, if elected. He has documented his plans in a blueprint entitled 'Road Map To Progress: Taking Ogun State To Greater Heights'. "As a man of justice, he will ensure all-round development of the state with no preference for any Senatorial District. Simply put, he will ensure equal development in all parts of the state," Dayo added. In his remarks, Dr. Abati said he was overwhelmed by the massive crowd that welcomed them, adding that he and his principal would run a responsible and responsive government, if elected at the governorship poll on the 9th of March, 2019. He said the prelude to their election would be the Presidential and National Assembly elections coming up on Saturday, the 23rd of February, 2019, and urged the people to vote PDP all the way. He assured the people that there shall be financial freedom for the local government, adding that this would enhance development at the grassroots. The Deputy Governorship Candidate said the issue of cooperative and other deductions will be reviewed in line with the wishes of the people. Addressing the people, Aare Bakare urged them to use their Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) to vote for all PDP candidates. "The Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) is a powerful instrument with which you can make a difference. You all must have known the difference between our Party and others. I am appealing to you, to please vote for our candidates from President to the House of Assembly. "Transparency, Renewal and Inclusiveness shall be the principles that shall guide all the policies and programmes of the PDP, if elected. That way, we shall take Ogun State to greater heights and get Nigeria working again," Aare Bakare said. Receiving the team in his palace, the Alaye of Ayetoro, His Royal Highness, Oba AbdulAzeez Ishola Adelakun, prayed for the success of all PDP candidates at the polls. The monarch, who expressed delight at the Kashamu-Abati ticket, said the combination will take the state to greater heights.

As at the last count, no fewer than three members of the Ogundele-led "Exco" have crossed over to join the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led mainstream Ogun State PDP. Some of the Ogundele-led "Exco" members that have joined the Senator Buruji Kashamu-backed Dayo-led Ogun State PDP are the Treasurer, Mr. Omololu Adenuga; the State Publicity Secretary, Malik Ibitoye and the Assistant Organizing Secretary, Hon Babatunde Odulana. Others include leaders from various local government areas who were hitherto with the Ogundele group. They were received by the State PDP Chairman, Engr. Ladi Adebutu's group crumbling as legal adviser resigns The camp of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, on Tuesday suffered a huge blow as the Legal Adviser of his PDP faction, Barrister Tunde (Aremo) Adesanya, resigned his appointment. Barrister Adesanya's resignation came 24 Hours after the Supreme Court struck out an appeal instituted by the LADO group, thus authenticating the Bayo Dayo-led executive. In a letter posted on social media on Tuesday, Barrister Adesanya thanked the Sikirulai Ogundele PDP group for giving him the opportunity to serve. The letter reads in part, "This is to inform you of my official resignation from the PDP of your group with immediate effect for personal reasons. "While thanking you for the opportunity to serve as the State Legal Adviser during the turbulent period of the party and especially your personal leadership. "I wish you all well." On February 2, Otunba Gbolahan Nowoola (factional party chairman in Ijebu Ode) resigned his appointment and dumped the group. On the same day, Dr. Yemi Oke (a one-time lead counsel to Adebutu ) declared in a statement that Adebutu had lost the battle for Ogun State PDP governorship ticket. |
Supreme Court strikes out appeal against Kashamu-backed Ogun PDP Exco ... It's end of road for Ladi Adebutu, others The controversy over the Executive Committee of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the list of candidates for the 2019 general election has been laid to rest as the Supreme Court on Monday (11th February, 2019) struck out the appeal of the PDP seeking to relist its appeal against the 24th June, 2016 judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos, which affirmed the Engr. Adebayo Dayo-led State Exco of the PDP in Ogun State. The Dayo-led Exco is backed by the lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Buruji Kashamu who has been locked in a battle for the control of the state party structure and candidates' list. The trial court judgment also mandated INEC to accept the list of candidates emerging from primaries conducted by the said Exco for the 2019 general elections in Ogun State. When the matter came up on Monday, the apex court during the proceedings sought to know the nature of the appeal; whether it was a pre-election matter or not. Responding, the appellant's counsel (PDP), Mr. Emeka Etiaba stated that it was not a pre-election matter. However, the respondents' counsel, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN) referred the court to the appellant’s pending application for abridgment of time wherein they stated facts pointing to a pre-election case. These facts, he pointed out, formed the basis and grounds of the said application for abridgment of time. Seeing that their application had been caught up by the 4th Alteration to the 1999 Constitution, Etiaba subsequently withdrew the appeal and it was accordingly struck out based on the provisions of Section 285 of the Constitution. No order was made as to cost. With the striking out of the appeal in SC.968/2018 PDP Vs Chief (Engr.) Adebayo Dayo & 4Ors., it puts an end to the several speculations surrounding the list of PDP candidates in Ogun State. It is now end of the road for Adebutu and other candidates purportedly backed by the national leadership of the party. |

They gave the assurance at the weekend when Kashamu led members of his campaign team and party leaders on a consultative visit to the local government area. Kashamu spoke of his plans to open up the Ogun Waterside and connect it with Lagos State so as to boost its economic potentials since the area is rich in natural resources. He informed the traditional rulers that he would never tamper with local government allocations, if elected as governor. This, he reckoned, would guarantee better treatment for the traditional institutions and engender grassroots development. Ogun Waterside, which he described as the “Niger Delta of Ogun State”, had been neglected over the years but expressed the hope that with Kashamu as governor, the area would experience a new lease of life. Oba Ogunye requested for infrastructural development as well as the setting up of a tertiary institution in Ogun Waterside so as to open up the area. The seven traditional rulers on hand gave their blessings and prayed for Kashamu’s success at the poll. Again, Ladi Adebutu loses as court joins Kashamu, others as parties in suit over Ogun PDP tickets ...directs PDP to present flags to INEC-approved candidates The Federal High Court in Abeokuta on Thursday refused the application of a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu and others seeking to prevent the Governorship Candidate of the PDP in Ogun State, Senator Buruji Kashamu and others from being joined as "necessary and interested parties" in a suit pending before the court. Adebutu and others had filed the suit in which they are asking the court for an order of mandamus to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish their names in place of the ones already published by the Commission. When the matter came up on Thursday, counsel to Kashamu and others, Prince Raphael Ajibola Oluyede, informed the court that his clients who are the candidates whose names had been published by INEC were interested in the matter but were not joined. Hence, they had filed an application as interveners who are willing to be joined. But, counsel to the Plaintiffs, Mr. Afolabi Fashanu (SAN) objected to the joining of the applicant/interveners. After much arguments, the court, as presided by the Honourable Justice Abubakar Shittu held that the applicant/interveners were necessary parties that should have been joined. Consequently, the court joined them. Thereafter, Oluyede informed the court that they had filed an affidavit disclosing that the Plaintiffs and their collaborators were parading themselves as candidates of the party while they were still before the court praying to be declared as candidates. He added that they plan to hold a rally on Saturday where they will be paraded and flags presented to them as candidates of the party even when INEC has not published their names and for which reason they were before the court. Oluyede submitted that such an action could lead to a breakdown of law and order and render the case before the court nugatory, if the court does not intervene, adding that the Police have already summoned an emergency security meeting based on the tension being generated by the matter. He prayed the court to direct the Police not to grant any permission for a rally where flags will be presented to Adebutu and others. Alternatively, he urged the court to declare that if such a rally must hold, it is only those whose names have been published by INEC as the authentic candidates of the PDP in Ogun State that should be presented as candidates of the party in the state. Fashanu opposed the prayers, saying they were speculative. Ruling on the prayers, the court held that where the issue of a potential breakdown of law and order was raised, it has a duty to look at it and take steps to prevent it, adding that the Rule of Law was the basis upon which INEC and the parties conduct their activities. The court held that where the Rule of Law was jettisoned, it would result in the break down of law and order such as being raised by the applicant. The court then directed the parties in the matter (i.e. the plaintiffs and the respondents) and their counsel to refrain from being used to foist a fait accompli on the court or cause a breakdown of law and order. It also directed PDP not to hold anyone out or present anyone as candidates except those who names have been published by INEC pending the hearing and determination of the suits before it, stressing that anything done contrary to the position of the law would be contemptuous and could lead to the breakdown of law and order. The court adjourned till 14th February, 2019, for hearing of the substantive suit and all pending applications before it. Commercial motorcyclists promise Kashamu 64,000 votes, name him patron Members of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), on Thursday, in Ijebu Igbo, adopted Senator Buruji Kashamu, the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, as their choice, and assured him of 64,000 votes in the March 2, 2019 governorship contest in the state. The body also conferred the award of National Patron on the governorship hopeful. While giving reasons for the Association's position, the chairman, Alhaji Lateef Yekini, said, "We conducted our study and found out that Senator Buruji Kashamu will not embezzle public funds. Sir, we found out that Ogun State funds hold no appeal to you. That is why we have adopted you as our candidate." The ACOMORAN chairman added that the association observed that the candidate would not impose his own people on the organization but would work with the existing structure. Yekini also noted that Kashamu's policy document shows he has plans to transform the state. "We have a common interest in the development of the state, hence our support for you," Yekini said. Kashamu was presented an award as the National Patron of the association by Alhaji Muhammed Isa, the National Financial Secretary, and Comrade Godwin Ikolo, who represented the national president. The duo thanked him for his support for their members and urged him to do more. In his welcome address Ogun State PDP chairman, Chief Bayo Dayo, thanked ACOMORAN members for their support and urged them to vote for all candidates of the party at all levels. In his response, Kashamu said he doesn't usually take awards or chieftaincy titles. He said he accepted the ACOMORAN award because, after listening to them, he could see that their interests had been injured. "So, I accept this award as a man of justice, to help all members of ACOMORAN get justice. "I do not want you to be involved in violence. If you get involved in violence, I will back out. But if your rights are being violated, count on my support. "As a token of my appreciation to you for this award, I will donate 10 motorcycles to your association." He advised them to do more than get 64,000 votes for him. "I want you to become coordinators of my campaign in your various communities so that together we can win the governorship election and guarantee the wellbeing of your members." Senator Kashamu assured them that under his watch, Ogun State would become great. "We will eradicate poverty, we will empower small businesses, we will revitalise our education system and invigorate the healthcare system. We are going to make Ogun State great. You can count on that."

. On the outcome of the election, it was clear to all that while our opponents were on the field, we spent most of the time going in and out of court because some persons think they could use their wealth to ride roughshod over us. We thank God they did not succeed. We fought like men and contested the election against all odds.
