The people of Agbabiaka community in Magaji Ngeri area of Ilorin at the weekend welcomed the APC gubernatorial candidate with topnotch hospitality. It's to be noted that this is the first time ever a gubernatorial candidate would be visiting the community -- thanks to Gen. B. I. Agbabiaka who facilitated the visitation. The youth of the community were represented by Comrade Muhammed Abdulkabir (Sir Yellow), the Coordinator of Kwara Central Restoration Forum in Magaji Ngeri ward and the General Secretary of New Kwara Forum, who also contributed to the discourse. He listed the problems facing the community to include unemployment, lack of potable water and power supply. Abdulkabir urged the APC candidate to run an all-inclusive government, away from what he called the inglorious mode of operations of present and past administrations. He lamented that the community lacks good representation and has been neglected and forgotten for far too long. Alhaji Khalifa Abubakar (Ori Oke), who spoke on behalf of the elders, expressed their grievances on the bad leadership and poor governance in the state, and urged AbdulRazaq to do the needful when he assumes office in May 2019. Similarly, Mr Lukman Olayiwola Mustapha, a former gubernatorial aspirant of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state, urged the people of the community to come out in their numbers to vote all APC candidates in Saturday's election as that is the only way to change the story of Kwara state and reposition it for sustainable development. Amb Yahaya Seriki, the DG of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq Campaign Organization (Kwara Central), reiterated that the party is committed to raise the standard of the people. He emphasized that having a governor like AbdulRahman who won't siphon government funds is the only way to revive Kwara from economic coma. AbdulRazaq, who also attended the meeting and lamented the neglect of the area, assured the residents of the community that his administration won't forget them once voted into office. The event was attended by important dignitaries in the community, including the Magaji of Agbabiaka, Brig. Gen. B. I. Agbabiaka; the chief Imam of the area, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim; and deputy Imam, Mallam Kawu Ahmed, among several others. The program was anchored by Mr. Sulaiman Tosho (Sai Kayi), a former PDP chairman in Ilorin West local government of the state, who said voting APC is the only way to prove “we are concerned about our dearest Kwara state”.

By Waliyulah Olayiwola On Wednesday 17 October 2018, LCNetwork carried out her third activity in her activity calendar for year 2018 as four of her distinguished members visited Agodi Prison inmates and Ibadan Motherless Babies home, both in Ibadan. You will recall that the last activity was a virtual workshop where LCNetwork featured a prominent personality in the field of academics, Prof Mahfouz Adedimeji who spoke at length on the need for kindness. Well, the organization practicalized the lessons learnt in the workshop, again, as the members contributed towards making this humanitarian visits a success. The four men(and woman) team led by the Convener himself, Mr Waliyulah Olayiwola, are: Mr Anis Rabiu(the Director of Operation, LCNetwork), Mr Ayub Olayiwola (Member, LCNetwork) and Mrs Balikis Alagbe-Olayiwola (Member, LCNetwork). The team converged at Agodi Gate, Ibadan at 11:30am as planned. On getting to the portal into the prison where the team would be ushered into the prison, Mrs Alagbe-Olayiwola wasn't allowed in because of her young daughter. "We are sorry but infants are not allowed into the prison." The prison warder protested. Reluctantly, she stayed behind outside the gate as the rest of the members went in. A registration into the prison registration book was necessary. First, all gifts for the inmates which were brought by the LCNetwork Visitation team were recorded. Then, the number of people from LCNetwork going in were also recorded. Then another gate that led into the main prison was opened. The prison rules provides that prison visitors can meet and interact with the inmates only in the two places of worship, the Church or the Masjid. Since all but none of the LCNetwork team were Muslims, hence, the meeting took place in the Masjid. What happened after was unexpected. A microphone had been arranged for the team to address the inmates. This was unexpected as the LCNetwork team had only hoped for a casual visit where everyone simply exchanged pleasantries and the gifts, shared. Well, the responsibility of address fell on the leader of the team, Waliyulah Olayiwola, and he spoke passionately to the inmates on the unending grace of the Almighty God to forgive anyone who has transgressed against their souls. In his words, "we need to understand that everyone is a sinner, both inmates and non-inmates alike without an exception. Hence, the need for everyone to seek for forgiveness from the Most Gracious and Most Merciful and repent from our sins. He is always ready to forgive our sins once we decide to repent and turn new leaf." At the end of the address, which lasted for 45minutes, there was a question and answer session. Of course, prior to that session the address ended on a powerful call to action. In his words, "How many of us now have decided as a result of this presentation to truly turn on new leaf?" Two people, Mr Sodiq and Mr Abdullah Ibrahim, raised up their hands. And you could see the light of sincerity and repentance in their eyes. Afterwards, one Mr AbdlHameed Imran spoke and call on more visitations from Nigerians especially from muslim faithfuls like themselves saying they've been neglected enough by the outside world. In his words, "We appreciate your visit a lot. It makes us feel human and cared for. If you could encourage people outside to do more of this and visit us with stuffs we need like medicines, toothbrush, toothpaste, bathing soap, used clothes, and so on." The team left the prison around 1pm when it was almost time for the Muslim inmates to offer Salat. Thereafter, the team took the trip to Ibadan Motherless Babies home with gifts; pampers, Golden Morn, Baby Food, Milk Bournfita and other items. When the team got there around 2pm, all the babies were already observing siesta except one or two. Hence, it was absolutely rude to wake those sweet kids from the sweet break they had from the cruelty of reality. The team played a little with the ones that were awake. Afterwards, the LCNetwork visiting team bade their farewells by some minutes to 3o'clock and expressed, to the delight of the Home's attendants, their intention to still visit in future.

By Waliyulah Olayiwola On Sunday, the last day of September, 2018 the Lifeline Charity Network(LCNetwork) held her second program for the year 2018. The first being a visitations to the sick in Unilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin. The organization, this time around, held a virtual workshop which featured a prominent figure in the field of academics, an erudite, Dr Mahfouz Adedimeji, a Fulbright Scholar and an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language, University of Ilorin. The virtual workshop which was held on the LCNetwork Official WhatsApp Page was graced by several important personalities who are members of the LCNetwork like Alhaji AbdulRauf AbdulWasiu, the CEO of Bilmuh'mineen Travels and Tours, Barrister Asafa-Olaore (Mrs), a legal practitioner, Mr FadluLlah, the president Union of Campus Journalists (Unilorin) and other prominent members of the organization. The lecture was moderated by Waliyulah Olayiwola who is also the Convener of the organization. The topic of the workshop, "Kindness: A Lost Virtue" was dealt with extensively in the 40 minutes time that the Fulbright Scholar took the lecture. The Fulbright Scholar started his lecture by acknowledging the work of the organization when he said "Permit me to begin by acknowledging the awesome job being championed by this organisation. As no good deed ever done goes unrewarded, my prayer is that everyone will be rewarded abundantly." Thereafter, he went straight into the lecture by first defining what Kindness is. "Kindness, he wrote, is the quality of being friendly, accommodating, generous, compassionate and sincere especially to others." He asserted that kindness is part of some theological virtues. In his words, "kindness is one of the seven virtues identified in theology. The seven virtues are chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness and humility." and he concluded that, "If a youth embraces these virtues, s/he leads a right and righteous life." By and by, he contrasted human behavioral virtues with some vices. He succinctly put it like this: "Today, we live in a post-modern world where virtues are frowned upon and vices are glorified. The destructive vices are envy, gluttony, greed/avarice, lust, pride, sloth (laziness) and wrath (anger). It takes a lot of discipline to be kind in our world that is obsessed with excessive materialism and corrosive self-centredness. He pointed to the fact that, contrary to what the topic portrayed, kindness is not totally lost making the members of the LCNetwork as a case study. He said, "That kindness is a lost virtue may not actually be totally true. In our world, in spite of the dominance of evil and the preponderance of vices, people are still kind and we can encourage more people to be kind, compassionate and generous. A case in point is the membership of this network: students, struggling graduates and individuals who are neither Dangote nor Adenuga in all ramifications. Yet, the desire to give, the motif to share, the passion to contribute and mindset to serve have made members to decide to come together to show kindness to others. He enjoined people to live a life of purpose. And what is a life of purpose? He answered that when he said; "Therefore, in our world of vanity and capitalism, it is good for us to pause, take a deep breath and ask: what is the purpose of life?" The purpose of life is to live a life of purpose. What is a life of purpose? It is a life devoted to serving (God) and preserving (humanity and nature). It is a life committed to giving and forgiving, not just getting and forgetting like the vast majority. Lastly, he concluded his lecture with quotes from six great men: Prophet Muhammad, Confucius, Sophocles, Aesop, Og Mandino and Robbert Ingersoll: Two of such quotes are, "To practise five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue; these five are gravity, generosity of the soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness" Confucius "There's a reward for kindness to every living thing." Prophet Muhammad The session ended by 6:20pm after the programmes on the agenda had been exhausted.

Lifeline Charity Network(LCNetwork) Visits University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Muhammad Jamiu's Residence On Sunday, 16th September 2018, a five man delegate of the LCNetwork visited the duo of Musa Sulaiman Oladimeji and Muhammad Jamiu at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), and Zango area, Ilorin respectively. The five-man delegation arrived at the former’s ward at UITH Ilorin, around 11:40am. After staying with him for some minutes, we put a video call through to the Naturopath Doctor around 12:00pm which lasted for about 23 minutes. While explaining his predicament to the Naturopath Doctor, he told him that the ailment started from kidney cancer which was operated last year, and later resulted in tumour. Furthermore, he stated that the doctors advised against operation due to the location of the tumour, as they insisted that it’s very risky since it's connected to the jugular vein which supplies blood to the brain. On the Sunitinib tablet which he was recommended to him after series of tests and diagnosis, he said that there’s been no notable improvement so far. He also noted that his two legs aren’t functioning properly. In his own words: “Presently, I can't walk, sit and the two legs are down. No stimuli whatsoever. It seems the cells are dead, and my spinal cord is also affected.” The Naturopath doctor in his response, emphasised that from his discussion with the patient, there’s solution to the tumour, and that he (alongside his team members) will chart a natural treatment plan for him, when they return to Nigeria by the end of September. On hearing this, he told us that the two weeks was too far because he's been undergoing a severe pain, which’s aggravating on a daily basis. In the meantime, the Doctor advised him to get an air bed to reduce the pain. After the visit, we took some pictures of the tumour, drugs and some other areas as requested by the Doctor. We left his ward around 1:20pm. _______________________________________ An Impromptu Visit to Ismail Abiodun As soon as we left his ward, we went to visit another patient (Ismail Abiodun) who's a cousin to a member of LCNetwork, we were told that he’s been admitted to the hospital for about 3 months and some days. His father whom we interviewed said that Ismail has problem with his spinal cord which needs to be operated. In his words: “Suddenly he couldn't walk and feel anything in his legs, so he was rushed from Abuja to Ilorin. He was first admitted to a private hospital due to strike by health workers then, but there was no improvement until he was later moved to UITH. After series of tests and treatments, and after taken some of the prescribed drugs at UITH he could feel his legs again now. We have spent some amount of money on drugs and we were told that he's going to be operated with a machine which costs about ₦270,000 excluding other miscellaneous expenses and some of the drugs he'd be needing after the operation. The estimated amount of money we need now is about ₦400,000 and any assistance from your organisation would be greatly appreciated." We took a video along with pictures of some documents. Details of this would be shared later God willing. _______________________________________ Visit to AbdulRahman Muhammad Jamiu Finally, we got to AbdulRahman Muhammad Jamiu's residence around 2:20pm and were honourably welcomed. We informed his Mother about our latest findings and consultation with Nigerian based hospitals. She was happy with the development, and prayed that God rewards all those who’ve contributed immensely to see that her son becomes hale and hearty. On her part, she informed us that the total donation received so far was about Two million, Three Hundred and Fifty-four Thousand Naira (₦2,354,000:00). What this means is that about Six Hundred and Forty-six Thousand Naira (₦646,000) was needed now to reach the Three Million Naira target. Afterwards, we took group pictures with Muhammed Jamiu and his mother. Members of the Lifeline Charity Network who made the visit include Anis Rabiu, Muhammed Abdulkabir, AbdulGaniy Shehu, Sa'ad Hassan Taiye, and Owolabi Ruqayah. We beseech the Almighty to heal and give the sick quick recovery, and May He not afflicts us with any form of ailment or calamity. May He reward us all abundantly. Amen. _______________________________________ Written and Edited by: Muhammed Abdulkabir Lifeline Charity Network 08162810322 Anis Rabiu Lifeline Charity Network 07062566513 AbdulGaniy Shehu Lifeline Charity Network 08137780936 _______________________________________ Signed, Waliyulah Olayiwola Convener, LCNetwork 08135902582
